What would make you NOT buy Skyrim?

Post » Wed Aug 26, 2009 11:11 am

Anything that makes it a requirement that you connect to the internet to play it. Obviously no MMO, but also no Steam, no "validate before you start DRM" or anything like that. I want to be able to play on a machine that has no connection to the outside world, so it doesn't have any source of interruption.

I think it's funny how PC gamers won't support the game if there is no construction set. Don't get me wrong, I see it's a very fun tool, but you guys would cry a river without it.

I'll always purchase every Elder Scrolls game like I did since the start. But one of the main reasons I buy the Beth's RPGs now is because of the construction set. I want my ES games to last me for years like Morrowind and Oblivion still do today. :)

Can't think of any realistic reason.
Only, if like the price was 200 dollars or something ridiculous like that.
Or if it aped Fable... God I hate that series. :flamethrower:

If they force my character to change out of his armor into a robe and a goofy ass hat just to cast a spell.

As much as I hate to say it, I might end up passing if the enchantment is watered down again like Oblivion. Cloaks, shirts, trousers on top of armour again please and no Azura's Star handed to you on about the third quest of the main story. Fast travel I can live with (I'm used to it now, after Fallout 3 and NV) even though I'd MUCH prefer Morrowind style travel (I want to RIDE on a Silt Strider, dammit).

So it won't be so much one single thing, but a repetition of all the things I found disappointing about IV which would make me pause and contemplate if I really want to go through that soul-crushing disappointment again ;)

Of course, I'll probably end up seeing screenshots of the landscapes and completely cave in again.

a.) any irritating DRM, which I will boycott on principle (I would have loved to get Settlers 7 but still haven't picked it up because of this).

b.) Scaled levelling - where no matter what level you are "an angry wolf" is always the same level as you. It kills any sense of danger, immersion or fun. It might not stop me buying the game, but if other features are fairly bland too then I probably wouldn't bother.

A lack of an other-world feeling. MW was completely alien; OB was generic Europe. I prefer the former.

This exactly. I guess like a lot of people I'm a Morrowind fan rather than an Elderscrolls fan.

Nasty DRM would make me not buy the PC version, but I'd still get it for a console.

I can't really think of anything that would definitely make me not buy the game completely

Pretty much nothing at this point, except if it's a MMORPG, but I can't imagine that being the case. Or if there's overly restrictive draconian DRM, but I can't imagine that being the case either.

Too much console retardation and total lack of mod support. Though I would probably still buy it when it's cheap.

So it would seem DRM is the main worry currently. Along with excessive "streamlining" and lack of mod support.

People have complained long and loudly about Oblivion's defects, so i think they've taken note of that. Also they should by now know that mods are the reason why their games are popular on PC, so i am not really too concerned about those myself.

or you could just click the single player option?

Unless it was just multiplayer, which it obviously won't be.

The only thing I can think of is if you could only be a nord in the game, it would kill the replayability for me.

It'd take me alot to not buy it, maybe if the story was 5 hours long. But we all know none of this will happen.

Overcomplicated combat - I have poor co-ordination and arthritis in my hands, so I LIKE to just be able to face the right direction and click the mouse button! People clamouring for complex combat moves makes me shudder, because if they get their wish I simply won't be able to play the game.

I would not buy skyrim if they included drm which you need a constant internet connection for or any other [censored] drm that makes life difficult to play the game.
