If it has any form of multiplayer in it...

If it turned out to be an MMO.

Those things =)

I would like more complex combat in some way, not really more moves but something more complicated than 100 skill points meaning all you do is hit harder like in Oblivion.... the blunt and blade skills were pathetic Put in some bleed effects, armor penetration bonuses to weapon types... all kinds of neat tweaks to customize how you pummel things.

I wouldnt buy it if it wasnt available for xbox 360.

Because that would mean Id have to buy another console or a pc, wich I cant afford.
I did buy an xbox for oblivion, but I cant keep doing that for every ES game ;)

Hmmmmmm.

About the only thing that could make me Not buy the game:

1. Bethesda goes out of business.

2. Nuclear war happens and I start my RL Fallout experience.

3. I die.

Thats about the only things that could stop me.

I have absolute faith in Bethesda to make a truly amazing game but in an alternate universe where Bethesda aren't the great devs they are in our universe (and presumerably they all have goatees).....
Dumb down Skyrim to the point where it is an action adventure with RPG elements tacked on or an insane amount of hand holding or they abandon the vast open world or turn TES into a Fable clone or something equally impossible to happen. I mean they'd truly have to trash the game and I don't think the Bethesda devs could do that if they tried.

Nothing would. My only concern would be this trend Bethesda seems to be maintaining with every new TES game. All the way from Arena to Oblivion, we have seen an extensive reduction in content, factions, space (Cyrodill may have been bigger than Vvardenfell, but it was mainly one big forest), etc. From just Morrowind (2002) to Oblivion (2006) alone, we lost a lot of armor options, spells, weapons, factions, diversity in species, the list goes on. At the same time, TES has been getting better game-wise with every game, but I feel that if this trend continues, what makes TES so special could be lost in the process. I hope this constant reduction does not continue.

Bad writing, clichéd plot, overdone level scaling, lack of roleplaying opportunities, generic visuals and everything else that plagued Oblivion.

Nothing would make me not buy the game except for if they decided to depart from the series in an extreme way. An example of this would be if they decided to turn it into a barbie simulator.

I suppose Miaximus has it right though, dying would probably prevent me from buying the game. I say probably because there is a chance that my desire for this game is so great, that I would rise from the grave as a revenant with the sole purpose of playing it.

Like most here, I won't buy it if ...

* it requires Steam or any DRM which doesn't allow me to play while off-line.

* there is no full CS available.

* some real-world catastrophe prevents me from doing it.

If there's a CS with comparable capabilities as the one for Morrowind or Oblivion I'll buy the game regardless.

Without a decent CS, or when there's no CS at all, the game would have to be nearly spot on perfect for me to consider buying it. Otherwise I'll pick it up from the budget bin.

1. Lack of modding tools.
2. Voiced player character, lack of character creation & development options.
3. Linearity (to the point of no longer being open-world).
4. Poor character anims (ie, Morrowind's or worse).
5. Significantly different or new art style (ie, a style I strongly dislike).

That's about all. I fully expect that none of the above things will be an issue with Skyrim though.

I'm buying it no matter what as long as there's a CS. If there is something that I don't like about it, I'll mod it to my preference, hoping that it's not hardcoded into the game.

Things that would make me not buy it:
- lack of a Construction Set
- DRM like Steam or GfWL

Things that would delay my purchase:
- excessive PC hardware requirements
- lots of bugs
- DRM/expansions not released on a physical disc
- mediocre reviews from players and "professionals"

Nothing.

They've never given me a reason to ever even consider not buying a TES game. Buggy or not.

I'm there cash in hand on release date.

base chance of buying: 100%

possible negative modifiers:
-100%: Lack of a PC version would prevent me from buying it.
-75%: If it didn't supports mods, I would be unlikely to buy it. I mean, I do get games without mods sometimes, but I hold them to standards that Oblivion would not have met.
-40%: If it felt like the game was targetted at 12 year olds or something, I might not buy it.
-25%: If it had much DRM... well that's probably not enough to stop me from getting it (though it depends just how bad the DRM is), not on its own anyway. But it's a very significant factor.
-25%: If it committed major heresy against my conception of what TES is about. Say, omitting spellmaking, or making the game more linear, or something. What a TES game without a spellmaker?

As far as I'm concerned, no CS would be a dealbreaker. I'm not willing to play any TES game without the ability to mod.

Right. Oblivion and Fallout 3 (especially with Broken, so very Broken Steel :shakehead:) both had some pretty silly (to put it politely :D) design decisions, and the only reason i'm still playing them are the overhaul mods made for them.
