What would be the best upgrade for full-blown Modblivion?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 5:43 am

So, I was thinking about Modblivion (as always) and thinking about what the best upgrade would be to boost speed in a full-blown heavily modded (including QTP3 and RAEVWD) install if money was no object?

SSD? A new GTX 680? New Ivy Bridge CPU?

Depends on what you already have.

If you have a i5/i7 processor, I would suggest not upgrading anymore. A GTX 480 would not be any different from a GTX 680 either in terms of graphics.

The most bang for the buck is from a SSD, IMHO.

Oh, I have a 560 ti and a I7. I was looking at SSD prices but they are way too pricey for me still.

The thing about an SSD is that you don't need a 1 TB SSD, you just need something practical like a 128 GB or 80 GB SSD. That way, only your Oblivion install is on the SSD.

I would also suggest installing Windows on another partition of the SSD. I love when the startup times are less than 20 seconds

BTW, SSD deals are all around. I have see them close to $1/GB, which is still the cheapest you see. Much cheaper than the 680 you were mentioning!

I was about to go on a rant because I misread the title as "Morroblivion", not "Modblivion". Whoops :)
