To be honest, I just want more long hair, or atleast a hair customization type of deal.I normally stick with presets and a few minor tweaks when it comes to face look

I simply want to have the body scaling and beards as well as much better graphical upgrades. Body scaling is key. I want to make my sneak thief tall and thin, My warrior to muscular and bulky, my mage to be gaunt and scary looking. I even want to be able to make a short fat half bald guy with a terrible mustache. Body scaling will be awesome if it is done right.

Things i would like 2 see in the character creation
1. Slider bars not effecting each other when creating a character
2. A voice option for your character
3. Dual wield, spells included
4. Large hairstyle selection
5. Proper lightening for character creation
6. Shops to change your character's looks at anytime

All of this but I WOULD also like the option for tattoos and scars, atleast some at beginning of the game when you make your character, and for scars to be like you get them in battle like Fable games just Better!
I want to get attacked by a werewolf, get a wicked scar from them (than become one later down the line from infection) :D

Erm, pretty much I wouldnt want any of those; well except maybe #3

I just don't really care for all of that character creation stuff. Give me a piece of paper and stats and I'm good to go  Or, if on a computer, maybe 3 selections for hair, clothes, etc. It just gets in the way of playing the game ;)

I actually liked the character creation in Oblivion. They should only tweak it a little so the characters don't look like they have to be fed by a nurse.

Also I would like to see more hairstyles. Tattoos would also be a nice addition, it wouldn't be neccesary though.

How so? If you're not keen on character creation just play with the standard male for each race? :)

The elder scrolls should be at the forefront of character creation tech IMO. Some don't care, but I think a large portion of the fanbase spends a lot of time looking at their char in 3rd person. I have always been the type to try and make my main char look as much like myself as possible. It is great fun! Check out char creation systems like the new one coming out for eve online. These are the kinds of things the elder scrolls should be pioneering.

I'd like to see beards and tattoos. And better lightning when creating the character. And more natural skin tones.

Games can work perfectly well without any character generation at all - e.g. Tomb Raider gives the grand total of one possible character.

But if you're providing choice, there will always be someone who wants the one that's not offered. I don't want to see choices at the beginning that are supposed to be changeable during the game, so I'd prefer character generation to be all about appearance, and let skills and attributes develop as you play, instead of having to pick a bias at the beginning. Race should determine only visual aspects of the character, and not abilities. Forget birthsigns, classes etc. and just learn what you need as you go along.

THIS.

Also, beards. A lot. Tatoos too.
And body customisation, which apparently will be implemented.

I want it to be as crazy and extreme system as in Oblivion, except I want to be able to edit the body just as insanely, beards are important! And of course asymmetrical editing! Always wanted to make a short creepy character with one wierd twisted nose and the left eye being ten times as small (and a bit outta place) as the right one...
I personally spent hours in character creation attempting to make 'em all look completely unique... I once even made a goldskinned dunmer with a nose pointing completely down and it being as thin as possible... those were the days...

I agree...to an extent. I want racial abilities to be less predetermining. In previous games, you could forget being a Nord thief, for example. But I do want there to be some racial abilities, and I highly doubt we'll lose birthsigns (I hope we don't, anyway). It's always been an important part of character creation.

Character creation is the biggest attraction for me in a game, creating a pleasant female character is one of the things that gets my interest about a game. I love 3rd person perspective & if i can't create a character that i enjoy using then i lose interest in the game. TombRaider & all those games with the standard character is fine when it's based off that character but i do also like the freedom of playing a game with character i created & designed 2 my liking, & i'd like the option of being able to change your looks at anytime in shops because when making your own character some will see things they could improve on or thought it was a good idea at the time but not so now can go back & change it.
Also i'd like 2 see is the choice of starting as a kid then growing up like in Fable

I think Endurance should affect the overall bulk of your character, whereas Strength should affect muscle tone, Agility as well as the previously mentioned stats should affect a character;s animations, how they run, how they stand, how they hold and use heavier weapons. I know it's not character creation per se, but I think it would be cool to see.

Growing up... like in Fable? I mean, in Fable you were actually the only one to grow... Fable had some good ideas, but the development was more than bad.

And the action of the TES games is always something fast, not covering a long time.

Instead, something like the beggining of Fallout 3 wouldn't be that bad... although it is not the kind of thing that I (and actually most of the people) want to see in Skyrim. Part of the fun of the game is that freedom to image who your character was.

Star Trek Online anyone? Game is not so great, but the character customization is excellent.

a) A checkbox which will constrain your edits to follow some set of facial proportion rules, such as those documented by Michelangelo, for example. This could save a LOT of time on the player's part when trying to make a face look human.
Personally, I would only use such a feature as a first-pass, and then uncheck the box in order to make edits which break the "rules" & fine-tune the face.
B) An "undo" feature, preferably with multiple layers of undo.
c) I share the opinion of earlier posters that the body should have as much customization as possible. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so the more flexibility the better. Some people like pear-shaped bodies, some like stout bodies, etc etc. The less assumptions made, the better.
d) I'd also like support an earlier poster's request to be able to edit individual vertices if the player wants to go to that level of detail. Or perhaps a more macro effect where the player could pull on a vertex, and the neighboring vertices taper off the pull's effect.
e) Just as some folks are asking for long hair on this thread, in the interests of flexibility it would be best to provide both options of course. I'm a fan of very short hair being available for both genders. Pixie cuts as well as serious, I-mean-business cuts.

The Elderscrolls' character-gen system has always been a draw for me and is a major reason I buy the product. Most RPGs force the player to be the company's singular idea of a character. Designing one's OWN role to play is much closer to traditional, table-top RPG'ing. It is called "role-playing game", after all.

As far as the sliders affecting one another, that is a necessity of the system. It is to prevent unrealistic proportions, glitched facial models, and broken facial animation.

also i would like to be able to change what my character looks like later on as well... in my third oblivion character i made him perfect except i totally forgot to change his height which i didnt notice until a couple days later at which point i noticed my awesome Breton was like 4 1/2 tall...

From the console, type "showracemenu". Vois-la.
Although if I remember correctly, using showracemenu mid-game shall reset your skills. I think.
Is height even an option in Oblivion character creation? It's been a while since I've played, but I don't remember that one.

I'm quite certain the sliders would need to effect each other to maintain continuity of the face..even when fine tuning....How could it not?

Side note. I'd love the ability to have a lack of symetry in a face should I so choose. Almost nobody has a symetrical face.....spelling?
