What would you think about placeable torches?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:47 pm

So probably one of the greatest mods from Oblivion, even though it was simple, was the ability to drop torches on the ground, so if you were a melee character without night-eye or light spells at your disposle, you could still go through dungeons without sacrificing the ability to use a shield or 2h weapon.

I haven't done much reading up on skyrim, so I might have missed something addressing this, but what would you think of the ability to either place torches, or create like a sort of fire in certain areas, instead of running around with a torch in your hand

Yeah, yet another thing taken out of Morrowind to simplify Oblivion.
Would be nice to have back.

What a cool nifty idea!
I'd like to have it done in Skyrim.
Dynamic shadows-on-everything would shine there ( I seem to recal a Two Worlds II demo that showcased torch light to great effect)
So, where do I sign?

lol "morrowhine" I love it

On topic: Yeah I think it would be a nice thing, i'd like to place a few torch around my camp at night and with dynamic shadows i'm sure we'll get to see some very neat effects

I want torches to be able to be used as weapons and also if there was a throw button that would be great.

This. Maybe it could be a weapon (good for zombies and trolls), but holding the attack button actually drops it in front of you. That would be (in a quote from a video done by The Onion) Hella [censored]in balls to the wall awesome.

+1, i think it would be cool if you could also light stuff thats around so that i can see better inside caves , and my eyes wont hurt as much, and sinse im in the topic of my eyes hurting i hope that they do a better job in placing treasure boxes so that i dont have to search every single inch of every cave.

I agree with everything you just said. I adore that Oblivion mod and never play without it. It's better than Light spells or Night Eye spells and is a lot of fun.

Moment I saw this thread I thought Minecraft. Placeable torches would be awesome and very useful to light up those dark areas.

Minecraft does it and I like it!

If you could mix the elements of Zelda OoT, Minecraft and Elder Scrolls into one game I might never leave the house again.

Yeah, I remember using them as markers when I got lost in dungeons.
I hope they bring this back

Oh yes. And travel lanterns. And let you place them where you want without having to use telekinesis. I want to decorate my house again with candles.

While it won't benefit me (seeing as I don't have that much trouble seeing in dungeons), I do agree.

Ahhh, good times. I remember I made a little shrine for this NPC who died out of candles.

Yes to placeable torches!
And placeable candles and lanterns!

In Morrowind, I collected hundres of these, then put around all my stronghold so it looked like a shining sanctuary :D
It was great and fun!

Me too :).. It's good to have little things like this. This inparticular seems well liked from morrowind, which may mean it's not a little thing at all :) (if that makes sense)
All these little touches add to a game overall. This shows, because people still remember such things. :)

The main thing I want this to be in for is because I am eventually going to play with a mod that removes any ambient lighting from the game (or hopefully one that modifies the lighting based on where you are and what time it is). Being able to move lanterns, candles, and torches would definitely help.
