What Would You Do If You Got Drafted into the Armed Forces?

Post » Mon Jul 14, 2014 6:56 am

Your perception of our politics are such a cliche though and shows you have no genuine understanding of US politics. None of our tv stations are shut down on any holidays, we always have programs here 24/7.Your perception is that all of us (yes you do mean all of us, by saying 'your country' you are implying the people of that country) are war hungering feral dogs when that is simply not true. That's an aspect of our population, but there are those of us who are hesitant about launching military operations, of asserting our authority as top dog where said assertion is required. Just as there are staunch diehard rightwing Americans, there are those on the middle of the fence, those apathetic to politics and those leaning left wing or liberal. Our politics are so much more complex than this generalised perception you hold and it's very obvious you know nothing of our politics or you'd not say that. The only way you could possibly assume all of that is if you watched Fox News, which is well known in our country as a diehard right wing channel thats programming is best to be taken with a bulldozer of salt.

Be pissed that the draft is in effect, then probably serve in the force because of it.

while we are on the topic of Militaries and enlistment, thought I would share a funny story..

Do you guys remember the free multiplayer FPS back in around 2002 called "America's Army"? the one that was apparently made by the US Army?

well me and a group of friends played it all the time back than (the Oldest of us at the time being 16, and the youngest being 12).. we played so much of that game that Summer, and we won far more games than we lost....

anyways, it was getting towards the end of the summer, and we had US Army recruitment officers come to each of our houses trying to get us to enlist.. to which our parents would say "they have not even graduated yet" or "they are just starting Highschool this year", to which the recruitment officers said "well, when they are out of school its an option they should consider"..

Weird thing was, we are Canadian Citizens living in Canada.. yet the US Military came, trying to get a bunch of kids to join their Military.. thats the day I lost most of my respect for the US Military.. we also contacted a lawyer, and apparently there is no law preventing the US Military to contact Canadian "Individuals" to try and recruit them, they just can't set up a recruiting office or publicly advertise anything within our borders...

i find it to be a bad idea in general to recruit soldiers based off scores of a video game but, hey more power to em if thats the way they want to do it..

makes you wonder though, just how many governments and Militaries are watching your K/D ratio when your playing a game..

What Ali did. But I'd probably be sent to prison. Or I'd take advantage of my dual citizenship and move to Brazil.

Honestly it would all depend on the reason for my draft. Basically the reason for the War in which I would be needed to fight. If I feel it is a just reason then I will go. If not then I will just go to prison or do other work.

Jeez, what kind of poor self control do you have? I mean you know politics are against the rules, you have had a topic locked because you kept going on about it. You should have known that your comment would be taken negatively by at least one other person. It doesn't take much thinking to retract your political opinions so they don't derail the topic.

Dig a really deep bunker, because it is WWIII or a very nasty Revolution.

I have no self control. I suppose I have that typical desire to push peoples buttons when they have a hard-held belief I disagree with, like the guy from the thread in question.

But fine, I'll remove the posts in question. And sorry. I'll try to be less serious and deliberately ignorant.

However, I think this topic does tempt people towards politicizing it. I'm not going to retract the statement that I find Americans and British people to be among the most military-minded-to-a-fault of the western countries, and this could be a contributing factor in failing to prevent conscription - which I was saying could only be achieved by mass-media organized mass-protest.

I'd try to find some way to avoid going, even if that means leaving the country or being arrested. I won't support a war even in a non-combat role.

The only ignorance is that of the rules which are set for a reason. If you want to push people with politics then frankly this isn't the right place to be.

I already reported the thread, would be surprised if it stays open.

Well, that was my concern when I first read it, but I suppose you're entitled to take exception specifically with me.
