One thing I really liked with the Morrowind ending was that the sky became clear. No more red blight storms. Just a simple thing like that showed you right away you made some major impact on the game world. Although then being greeted by everyone and their grandmother as their savior over and over became very annoying after a while :P

But I would like to see something similiar to that sky thing. Something that visually show you what you have accomplished.

Also, I don't really think a big final boss battle is needed either, I really liked in Fallout 3 where you could just talk to the final boss (Colonel Augustus Autumn) and convince him to not fight. No big huge epic monster or fight or anything, just a talk.

Lol! I talked him out of a fight, he walked away, and I buried my auto axe in his back.

The game ends with me on the Skyrim throne, directing armies into Cyrodiil after crushing the Imperial loyalists. The throne made from Alduin's bones, of course.

Then I go hunting wolves

Damn it.... now I know what went wrong.
Note to self, Save the princess not kill her, kill the dragon not marry it.
I really hope Beth puts this in the manual... off to raise half dragon brood.

One that doesn't feel like an Ending, so that I can continue playing with my character without the smaller dragons disappearing and the whole world in general not changing in a tremendous way, much like in Oblivion, but that ending still felt like an ending.. So not like Oblivions ending, but still like Oblivions ending, you know?

Defeating Alduin in the center of the earth with only 1 HP left and with lots of fire pits and mini-vulcano eruptions and the Skyrim theme blazing through my speakers. And then everything will collapse but with the power you just gained by consuming Alduins soul you can blow yourself out of the cave leaving a great crater in the land of Skyrim as a memorial to your heroic actions for the people of Skyrim.

And ofcourse an epic party in the tavern with my mates afterwards.

the actuals stories were bad that's what happened.

It is heresy to say that Morrowind's story is bad.

Me and Alduin have a nice sit down, and talk out our troubles rather than mindlessly butchering each other. He's such a warm hearted guy.

in all honesty?

a Shadow of the Colossus-type fight with Alduin, with you standing on his back as he flies around Skyrim, struggling to get to and attack strategic points on his body while he explains why he must do what he must do, without directly attacking you once.

ultimately the fight reaches its conclusion and, defeated, Alduin slams into High Hrothgar, taking down half the mountain.

you awaken two weeks later in a nearby village. they explain to you what's happened since you've been out and mention that there was no sign of Alduin's body anywhere near High Hrothgar.

you leave the house, the game pulls a Fallout-esque whiteout, and the first thing you see is a shattered mountain on the horizon.

alternatively, a dragon dogfight where you're riding a dragon and fighting Alduin.

My perfect ending would involve my character sacrificing themselves to save Tamriel (preferably without a fanfare endgame cinematic - the unsung hero archetype really appeals to me).

Last time I floated that idea here, however, I got shouted down. It really gave a fantastic impression of the community.

Since I don't know the story I can't make an ending. But I would like to have a big boss fight. Not just pounding the most powerful stuff I have but something that would require some skill to pull off.

Well how about I finish the main quest, take a bit of time off and then start the main quest of the expansion. Finish that and repeat with next expansion then repeat, over and over and over and over again.

this is where story and gameplay clash, though. on the one hand there's a lot of potential impact in the death of the main character at the end of a story - i really liked Fallout 3's original ending, for instance, before Broken Steel came along and changed it. on the other hand, people play Bethesda games for absolute freedom, which since Morrowind has meant "endgame play".

as games, regardless of genre - FPS, RPG, whatever - gameplay should always take precedence over story. people get (understandably) upset over the idea of the game ending with the story because a lot of them play this sort of game because the game ends with the story in many, many other games, and for a player to find themselves immersed in this huge, open world of infinite possibilities and then suddenly be unable to continue playing the game just because the story went WHOOPS YOU DIED is kind of [censored], honestly.

there's always the WELL DON'T PLAY THE STORY and the JUST MAKE A NEW CHARACTER camps but neither of these is especially ideal.

Just as you kill the final dragon, you pull your sword out of its slimy carcass and stare in disbelief at the mighty foe having fallen to your blade. You turn around and begin walking towards the exit of the dragon's lair.

As you approach the exit, you hear faint flapping sounds, and sounds of *screee! screeee! scrreeeeeee!*, which gradually begin to get louder.

You reach the exit. Looking up into the sky, you realize that your battle is not yet over, for in the sky is a vast army of CLIFF RACERS!!!!

You ready your blade as the cliff racers approach, but they you see something else. You see FARGOTH riding on one of the cliff racers screaming *MY RING! MY RING!!!! YOU STOLE MY PRECIOUS RING!!!*

He swoops down at you on his mount. You swing your blade but are unlucky and you miss, and Fargoth flies a bit higher and out of your reach. He then curses you and begins to call out in words which you cant understand.

Right at that moment, a cliff racer swoops down behind you, but it is not alone. This one is also mounted, by none other than the ADORING FAN! He begins screaming excitedly ... *BY AZURA, BY AZURA, BY AZURA, I FOUND YOU AT LAST*, and leaps off his cliff racer onto your back.

Just as you manage to throw him off, no less than FIVE cliff racers swoop down and begin attacking you with their beaks. You swing your blade and manage to kill a few, but right behind them, you spot another several THOUSAND cliff racers coming at you.

Vastly outnumbered, you begin to run in the opposite direction, only to be followed by the sound of thousands of cliff racers, plus Fargoth screaming at you for his ring, and the adoring fan chasing you and excitedly yelling .....

By Azura ,,,, By Azura, BY AZURA!!!!!!!

And then the game fades out to the credits while you run and keep on being chased.

Yeah, it's a tricky situation.

The collective total failure on the community's part to see where I was coming from was the real shame, though.

Anything goes aslong as there are disfiguring amounts of adrenaline involved, along with a testosterone filled epic manchoir chanting something at the background. AND SPECIAL EFFECTS! MORE EFFECTS! And huge armies clashing! Thousands, nay, millions must die for the proper ending. And from the smoke only the player must walk out alive.

they see where you're coming from, they just disagree with it. a lot of them can't voice it quite as eloquently as we'd like, but what can you do.

honestly as much as i like the idea, i like it in moderation. i wouldn't want to see Bethesda use it twice in a row.
