What's wrong with destruction magic?

A guard in solitute told me there's nothing wrong with destruction magic.
I suggest you take his word over everyone else.

put it like this from someone who is experiencing this problem now as a lvl 35 destro mage... i found krosis and he ate me alive, i have fireballs dual casted with the 50% increase and i barely scratched his health bar by the time i went oom... i went to the college and bought dremora lord... came back, summoned it on krosis and my dremora lord took krosis down to half health at which point i summoned another and it finished him off... as i was standing there wondering... are my dual casted fireballs really gonna be useless from here onn out?? =/ the answer is yes... bethesda needs to fix this asap... because i find it stupid that by the time im lvl 45 im gonna need my conjurations to do my fighting for me

I think that you guys are seeing the problem from a wrong side. The problem is not that magic is weaker, the problem is that melee is overpowered.

@ callmetongy

Not true. I have a 44 with 95 destruction, almost 600 magicka and I its VERY powerfull but not at the point that is complety absurd powerfull like melee can be, wich 1 hit every monster.

Yeah. This is coming from a guy who used to be an adventure, but took an arrow in the knee.

Destruction magic should receive the same scaling as weapons, or at least something similar, to be great at later levels. An Altmer mage should have the ability to spew fire as powerful as dragon's breath if they are a master of destruction. Not to the point of demolishing everything, but at least enough to not have to sit there with their flames on like a jet stream for an hour trying to kill a boss and constantly running away to recharge.

Yes I have. Spells like flames get the can due to not leveling with the player, and instead the player can use said spell longer. Why there could not be a better, more higher casting and damaging version of flames, or why flames cannot go up like weapons such as swords and bows, is not much of a task to ask for.

I've been reading the forums, and I've been hearing people say destruction magic needs to be fixed, I just wanted to know, what's wrong with it? I don't see any problems

the only thing I think is wrong with it is the dual cast perk having a 2.5x mana cost multiplier for only a 2.2x damage multiplier, making it only good to use with downranked spells (like at least 25 skill rank bellow, for exemple using 2h.firebolt at 50+ or 2h.fireball at 75+)

either than that its perfectly fine, its just much harder to use well and much more complex than just equiping one item and spamming it like most people seem to think its how its used, but its cool there are already noob mods, for noob mages so they dont complain as much anymore :)

For those who base their opinion in pure assumptions

Play a lvl 44 High Elve, go to a kickass boss and them come back and lets talk with base.

So, turns out my massive tank with 70+ in one-hand, smithing, heavy armour, enchanting, and block, with 35+ perks across those, is better than a mage using what, 10 perks and a single school of magic.

Yeah, you're going to struggle if you only use a single skill, why is anyone surprised by this?

Normally, mages are so overpowered it's melee that can't compete at higher levels. It's kind of funny, actually.
