What's wrong with facebook?

Post » Wed Dec 08, 2010 3:18 pm

so for the past 2 hours I havent been able to get onto facebook, I type in the web address and it just takes me to google, and when I try a specific facebook address, like that of one of my friends' it just takes me to a google error page. Normally I would think maybe theyre doing maintenance on it or something, but they never mentioned it as far as i know, which you think they would do since it's the most used 'social' type of website out there

Working for me.

then what the hell is wrong with my computer O_o I've opened two different browsers, firefox, and IE. doesn't work on either one, I've tried logging off, and using each of the 3 accounts on our computer, I've done that thing where you turn off your wireless router for 15 seconds. I've done everything I can think of that might have some sort of effect on it

Your computer is tired of doing what you want is on strike for an indeterminable amount of time.

Chances are you have a virus.
Incorrect or strange Google pages appearing usually means a Trojan virus is in your computer.

sounds like a DNS issue.

You using the DNS provided by your ISP, OpenDNS, Google's Public DNS, or some other DNS?

do a virus scan?

flush your DNS? ("ipconfig /flushdns" in the command window)

Is it your computer or the family computer? Do you think it's possible your parents and/or sibling(s) installed parental control software on there?

Did you take a look at the router?

Well by messing around with some connection settings I fixed the issue, still doing a virus scan just in case, because I did click on some link that a friend sent me in an e-mail, only it turns out his email was hacked and sending out links which turned out to go to some page advertising viagra...

I had the same problem on my PC, only it was redirecting to MySpace instead of Google. My issue was the DNS server. My router was telling my computer that it was not only the default gateway, but the primary DNS server as well. Manually setting the DNS fixed the problem. I flushed the DNS and it fixed it for a bit, but it kept happening, so if it happens again, manually setting things may be the way to go.

Yeah, my ISPs DNS was fairly slow. I switched it to 4.2.2.1 and it has worked great.
