It wasn't (from my recollection) but you can just google the meaning of his name. Which feeds directly into what he tells you about dragon kind. He never denies he did horrible things and was once a general. Taking the time to move past his bloods call was his choice.

Have you checked what Paarthurnax's name means in Dragon language? After doing that, you might reconsider his 'harmlessness'... Especially since dragons are +- immortal beings that don't age. How hard is it for old Parthy to wait a few decades until the dragonborn dies... Not hard at all.

So why didn't he act beforehand? He's been around for a rather long time, and recently that has been supposedly without a dragonborn to oppose him. Why didn't he join with Alduin when he began waking the other dragons? He's committed, he can be trusted. And if he is biding his time as you say, well Alduin is now gone. What's there for Paarthunax to do? He can't take on the entirety of mortal-kind by himself.

Alright, so I defeat Alduin and decide to get congratulations from some important characters. I get to Delphine and her response is: "Oh, yay, Alduin is gone, but you svck because Paarthurnax is still alive." WHAAAAT? That's all I get? And you too, Esbern?

Okay, earlier they were complaining about harmless Paarthurnax when Skyrim was still under attack, but now I've saved the world and that's still the ONLY thing the Blades can think about! Those fools! If I kill Paarthurnax, what will all the dragons do without a healthy-minded leader to follow? Basically, they're asking me to wreck havoc back on Skyrim. You know what? P.S. Also, completing the main quest while playing as a mage with less then 140 health on Master is possible. Just don't get hit...

While I like Esbern for both his character and voice actor, Delphine has done nothing put piss me off since the beginning of the game.

She stole my horn, then made ME prove that I'm a Dragonborn? I've slayed 20 already, and can Fus ROH DAH you from here to High Hrothgar.

And then, I, Harbinger of the Companions, Leader of the Dark Brotherhood & Thieves guild, slayer of 50'ish Dragons, Legendary Warrior/Theif/Assassin of legend, have to bow to your whims?

Last I checked YOU are supposed to serve ME, never mind that I can kill you, and 10 clones of you in a matter of seconds.

Excuse me while I take slit your throat, Delphine.

lol. They are blades whose purpose is to kill all the dragons, you know?

They are two bitter ageing and fanatic fools trapped in the past who fail to see the big picture.
Slay dragons you say. And yet they are supposed to follow and guard the Dragonborn (a dragon incarnated in a mortal body).

In the end, who cares about what they think. If the Dragonborn takes his/her supposedly rightful place on the throne, they will either fall in line or be replaced with people who actually knows what honour and duty is!
