What year?

Except 200 years is said by a machine, something that doesn't deal in such vagueness (heck they showcase Codsworth computer like obstinate for detail by having him give the coffees temperature down to a decimal)

Ironically, that's not actually what you said.

No you're right, not "broken out of the vault". We also walk out of the vault alone, and see a skeleton which would infer something happened way before we come out. edited

Apart from your comment being incredibly inappropriate, you are making a lot of assumptions. Being broken out of the vault does not mean that somebody has to be there to hold our hand and walk out with us. There are other ways that this could be achieved without us even knowing.

Thing is, Codsworth is a robot designed to be a sort of butler. That means being more than a machine, it needs a personality. To be at least rudimentary self-aware. And that means it won't be thinking as rigid as a generic robot would.

Again, speculation. My point of taking that "200 years after war" as a rough estimate still stands.

Which is why he doesn't list the days, hours and minutes, but he does seem to be machine enough that he at least give the years in a exact number

Coming from the master of assumptions, I'm laughing. It was literally a two second thought, and purposely made vague to leave open for plenty of possibilities. Explosions, fire, raiders, etc.

Which one is more fluent to say in a conversation, "207 years" or "200 years"? It easier to say a rounded number rather than exact one. This is the main reason I think why "200 years" should not be taken literally. Whether it said by a machine or human means absolutely nothing.

Once again, wait until we see concrete evidence of the exact date.

Well, King Arthur was 16 when he managed to retrieve Excalibur, so that would fit perfectly :)

The robot in Vault 112 in FO3, which was sealed shortly after it was finished in 2074, says you're "202,3 years late".

We did get concrete evidence of the start date, https://twitter.com/dcdeacon/status/616721092963512320. Even the Fallout merchandise store has http://i.imgur.com/Dt3ehwu.jpg.

Codsworth listed the temperature of coffee to a decimal point so I highly doubt he's "just rounding."

I will eat a [censored] shoe if the date we emerge from the vault isn't 200 years.

Codsworth also says "as I live and breathe," neither of which he actually does. Start looking for a good shoe recipe.

Not if you're using the argument that because Codsworth is a robot, his statements are precise and literal.

He can do both, especially because he's programmed to be a butler and work with humans. It doesn't mean he's going to [censored] spit ball and round up or down. He didn't even say "well it's been around 200 years," which would imply rounding. He just said 200 years.

He's not an isolated case of robots using exact figures. Vault 112 robobrains had the date to a decimal point as well.

Yet codsworth gives the exact temperature of the coffee (to the decimal point) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1t_YHgo_HN4

But he doesn't say this in a 'tongue-in-cheek' manner like he does when he mentions the PC not eating for 200 years. Being overly precise about the time spent in cryo would have killed the moment somewhat.

EDIT: he also hadn't seen his former master for a very long time. He does at least seem to be programmed with basic emotion, and he actually sounded relieved when he first saw the PC.

The problem is we do not know if postwar cogs is 100% reliable on the subject of time. He may have shut down and been repaired at some point, or he may or probably had some internal system degradation.
