What do you beef up the music file with?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 11:05 am

I'm sure a lot of us have put extra music files into the game in order to counteract how short and repetitive the regular soundtrack is. So, what have you added to the game's soundtrack?

I put music in from other games Jeremy Soule has scored. I've got music from Oblivion, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights playing in-game.

I've added bits from the LotR, Morrowind, Everquest II and Gladiator soundtracks, Loreena McKennitt, Medi?val B?bes, David Arkenstone, Hildegard of Bingen and Ian Anderson's Divinities: Twelve Dances with God.

I think Morrowinds soundtrack is amazing, why would I want to change it?

I think it's amazing too. I have preserved every bit of it, adding only a few extra tracks in addition to the original soundtrack.

How does one go about adding music to the soundtrack? Just drop .wav files into the folders inside of "music"?

I believe you can use mp3 files as well. I put my calmer pieces in my Explore folder and my more energetic pieces in my Battle folder. Both of these are located within the Music folder.

Try replacing the battle music with heavy metal. That sure spices things up. That experiment didn't last very long with me.

I rarely listen to anything other than the original music when I play Morrowind. It's become such an intrinsic part of the game for me, and I never get tired of it. Ever since installing a bunch of ambient sound effect mods, I've spent most of the time playing without any music at all. These sound mods combined with a few lighting mods to make the nights realistically dark make for a pretty incredible experience exploring the wilderness.

I have occasionally added some of the Daggerfall tracks, and like everybody else, the LOTR soundtrack. :P

I usually plug in some calm trip-hop for exploring and some hard metal/techno for battle music.

I've just started to mess around with the music. I LOVE the Morrowiind music, but there is also plenty of other stuff out there to love :) I'm currently using a Divine Divinity pack from the pack Epic Soundtrack (cept for one "sewers" song I deleted, complete mismatch) and a mix made for Oblivion from http://www.mwmythicmods.com/telesphoros.htm#17 amazing, I got Michikawa's Public Music Pack and the Battle and Explore packs below it. Still experimenting with everything.

Morrowind\Data Files\Music\Explore for exploration music and \Battle for battle music. AFAIK, files need to be in mp3 format.

I have a few tracks from the Avatar soundtrack. The problem with most movie soundtracks is that they switch pace really quickly so you can't decide if you should put them in Battle or Explore.

You download the game off Steam? If you did, it will be somewhere obvious in the common apps folde

Essentially, just search for the file called "Morrowind". And look for a file deviously called Music somewhere in there.

Its really not going to be hidden.. :toughninja:

Well then just look throught the Morrowind file until you find a folder called Music. It has to be there.

In the time its taken to set this topic up, and reply to it across this time, you could have found the music file a million times over.

Need advice on how to use the search feature of your computorrrr ? :brokencomputer:

For exploring I tend to use slower, folkier tracks, such as Grottans Barn by Finntroll (sp?) and the like.
For battles? I make extensive use of Amon Amarth.

Pseron Wyrd recently said......

"Loreena McKennitt"

Now there's an idea....never thought of dropping her into Morrowind, but I must have everything she's ever recorded.....I am a hard-core, die-hard fan of Loreena's music. Thanks for the suggestion.... ;o)-)
