What do you carry?

Post » Sun Mar 28, 2010 11:01 pm

For role-playing purposes, I try to limit myself to 70-110 lbs (depending on current goals and/or missions), all conveniently carried in my “invisible” (kudos to the Chinese stealth suit factory) backpack..

But
I always carry:

A clipboard and pencil – The wasteland’s a big place, a few notes and a homemade map is a must.

A wrench – How else are you going to open up those scattered fire hydrants for much needed water?

A hammer – sometimes nuts and bolts are rusted shut.

Eight bottles of water – 4 to drink and 4 for cooking/cleaning.

Rx – A few stims, a few radaways, and a few MedX’s (just for “self-done” stitches and such).

Alcohol – Purely for medicinal and sterilization purposes don’t ya know.

A harmonica – silence is golden, but every now and then you just have to get jiggy-with-it.

A book or two – An idle mind is a wasted mind.

I know I'm forgetting something on those long, hot nights - whats missing?

I carry so much crap:

Jewelry to hide wrist and neck seams

For Cooking/Primary Needs:
4 Purified Water
2 Dirty Water
1 Nuka Cola
1 Quantum
7-8 pounds of assorted foods and meats
Pot
Hot plate
Pressure Cooker
Toaster
Metal Cooking Pan
RobCo Grill

about 30-35 stims, couple doses each Jet/UltraJet/Psycho/Afterburner/Rage, 2 Rad-X, 6 Radaway

Metro Ticket- nobody rides for free
Bent Tin Cans and frag grenades for emergency ammo making
Sheet Music Book- one of these days I'll make it over to see Agatha
Wonderglue- don't ask
Chunk of Rubble- will never finish that quest
Poisonous Punga Fruit- see above
Fission Battery- I have so many of these. Every time I take one out of my inventory, I find another one somewhere.
Stealth Boy- I have only ever used two in my life but I always carry one "just in case"
Two Camping Beds
Slaver Baton
Three Slave Collars
spare WMK scope or laser sight for impulsive weapon modding

I use FWE to nerf the Carry Weight formula and give ammo weight, so I'm pretty limited on what my character can pack when he heads out into the wastes.

The Lucky 8 Ball. Everybody carries a good luck charm, but this one actually works!

A pair of Night Vision Goggles I modded. They consume an energy cell every 30 seconds for power, are blurry around the edges (simulating tunnel vision), and have a seriously high Motion Blur percentage.
I use the Fellout mod, so the nights in my game are pretty much pitch black.

A Stealth Field Generator I modded. It consumes a micro fusion cell every 15 seconds for power, and gives my character 1 Rad per second that it is activated.

I also modified a copy of the Lucky 8 Ball's script, and attached it to the Wasteland Survival Guide, so that carrying the book in my inventory gives +2 to Repair, Science and Medicine.
Nothing like having a survival guide with illustrations with you when you need it.

Dogmeat. :hubbahubba:

And, yet, you have a problem with ghouls....

I carry about 75-100 pounds with everything.

-I carry stimpaks, rad-x and rad-away
-purified water, and now that I've discovered I can carry coffee (from a mod) I will never be without that. It's like a dream come true.
-Food; all different kinds; about 15 pounds max
-I almost always have a couple of StealthBoys on me, that just like Ghouls, I don't use but I might, so I keep them on hand.

Edit: Oh, Ssenkrad's comment made me think of something else I carry around. It didn't occur to me because it's an apparel item. It's a tool belt that has hammers and stuff dangling off of it. It's very cool and useful. It's from a mod and ups Repair +10.

Oh, and I always get and keep Lincoln's Hat. I love that ratty old thing.

-whiskey
-jet. lots of jet. can't ever have too much jet.
-ghoul mask. sometimes you just wanna wear someones face ya know?
-squirrel on a stick. love it
-strange meat i got from that one town with those nice people. not sure what it is yet, but it tastes great. nice smoky flavor.
-also carry around a nuka-cola truck, for when i want to play with it.
-cigarettes. gotta have plenty.

Me, too! I don't really ever wear it, but I can't bear to sell the hat. Probably something to do with it belonging to the greatest US president in history.

Anyway, I always carry my Lucky Shades and a hat. In terms of misc items, I like to keep the Lucky 8 Ball and Yew's Bear Charm simply for the bonuses they give me. Oh, and if I can keep it, the FEV -- even if I don't use it or never start the quest, I feel that I've got a lot of power holding that virus.

And I don't know if this counts as armour, but I always have Autumn's Uniform on me -- the most beasty outfit in the game, IMO.

Oh, I wear it. A lot. Even now on the PC with all of the sylish clothes mods I have available I'll put it on with them. What can I say? I love my hats. I wear the Confederate hat when I'm out in PL.

I’m reduced to estimating ammo weight – I know that one loaded clip of 5.56 (this includes the “clip”) weighs approx 1.1 pounds.

The Lucky 8 Ball. Everybody carries a good luck charm, but this one actually works!

The Lucky 8 Ball – how the heck could I forget that?!!?

I use the Fellout mod, so the nights in my game are pretty much pitch black.

I rely on moonlight. When the moon is scarce and the clouds are thick, I rely on my senses. Sometimes my senses are superior, sometimes a Yao Guai gets the jump on me, and I have to limp back to camp like a whooped whelp … if I’m lucky.

I also modified a copy of the Lucky 8 Ball's script, and attached it to the Wasteland Survival Guide, so that carrying the book in my inventory gives +2 to Repair, Science and Medicine.

That’s excellent!! Good Idea. The extra luck makes it perfect.

Whiskey, mini-nuke, 5 Rad-X and RadAway, 10 stimpacks, two packs of cigarettes.

Tobacco – how the heck could I forget that?

Ahhh, but sometimes that’s the sweetest load of all! :celebration:

I let Dogmeat walk. It's not like he's a chihuahua or anything.

I like to carry:
* Stimpacks and Radaway in large quantities, and a bit of Med-X as well
* Some food, and I try to eat at least one meal a day, for realism.
* Purified water, for karma boosts.
* Lots o' caps, just in case I want to buy something or bribe someone.
* A Nuka Cola, just in case I run into Zip. Most of the stuff he trades me isn't much good, but I'd give him one for free just because he's so darn funny.
* Civilian clothes and a pistol. I figure that in a realistic world, Harkness wouldn't want any non-security types in Rivet City wearing high-grade armor and carrying a rifle, but sidearms would be allowed (since there are no liberals in the wasteland, gun control is a non-issue). Ditto with Gustavo in Tenpenny Tower. So I try to change whenever I go there.

Hmm, I dunno. Even though I respect what the hat stands for, I still think it looks silly on my character, who cares a lot about what he wears. I just can't take it seriously. Heck, even Hannibal Hamlin calls it a 'ridiculous hat' -- how disrespectful! :o

Though, you're right, the Confederate Hat is badass, as is the Enclave Officer one.

Dogmeat. :hubbahubba:

HAHAHA!!!
That's gross.

I've modified my maximum weight so I can carry thousands and thousands of items, so my Pip-Boy is like a garage: A huge, sorted out mess. I've got everything I'd ever need in my Pip-Boy, so I can spend like months out in the Wasteland with just what I've got.
