What is you class choice when starting an RPG and why?

Not sure why you completely neglected to include Stealth gameplay.
Your poll is broken and unbalanced for a TES game question.

Pure stealth, not necessarily an archer.
if just a pure thief, I avoid conflict (this is what I will be for my first Skyrim character)
Morrowind and Oblivion were Assassins. but always stealth, trying not to get caught.

Meh, pures are boring in my opinion. In most RPGs, I like going for a class that can tank, heal, melee, and spellsling. I always play clerics in games like Neverwinter nights 1 and 2 and other dnd style games for that very reason, and I try to emulate that style in the elder scrolls games.

I've always liked Paladins, but didn't like their rigid "code" - sometimes integrity and honesty are two different things.

I like Paladins as well, allthough i feel like their moral code gets in the way a little more often than I'd like. Integrity and morals are good things, but they're not very practical, and when the world is at stake you can't really afford to restrain yourself. Doing anything it takes is always my preferred approach, it may not be pretty and people may not like it, but it get's the job done.

It's like when people complain about the Renegade path in Mass Effect.
Well excuse me for not dikeing around tyring to please everyone, I'd much rather cut to the chase and ensure that the galaxy doesn't get destroyed by space-Cthulhu...

Mage,always is a mage.In TES games i am nightblade (stealth/magic).
Love casting spells, burn or freezee my enemies, summon creatures from another dimensions, become invisible or fortify my attributes, dominate animal or humanoid, disintegrate enemy weapon or armor...this is more flexible class of all. Also playing as a mage requires strategic planning, especially now because we will have in Skyrim "trap-spells" and frost spells will slower a target down...it would be awesome! Other classes is just boring for me after a mage.

Melee/Archer for my main usually. I always do a pure mage for one of my characters though. And after I get bored with the mage, I'll do a stealthy character, who may or may not use archery.

I choose pur mage. I love magic in any rpg, plus I am no good at upclose and personal fighting. So I like range spells. Plus it makes the game more emersive for me to be this magical mage creature. I do keep a daggar handy in case my mana runs out so I hope that doesn't put me in the melee/mage category...

Not that many archers in here! Come on my fellow woodsmen!

Joking aside, archery is the first thing I look towards in games. My first Oblivon character was an archer, and all my other fantasy characters usually supported the archtype.

Plus, I get my sick new bash move in case enemies get too close. This is gonna' be fun.

I almost always play stealth based classes, they're just the most fun for me.

Pure melee for sure. More entertaining and challenging that way.

Any manner of Magic Knight type class. Magic to deal with those burly oaf pure warriors and shifty-eyed rogue pure/hybrid classes, a nice sharp sword to deal with those squishy wizards, and also for those untrustworthy rogue classes.

Generally a pure melee character. Fighter is just the way I see my characters :)

Where is the Thief? Archer should be thief instead. Warrior, Mage, and Thief are the three archetypes.

I'm usually a Fighter or a Mage, but I do occasionally pick Thief. Don't like Cleric.

I assumed you were talking about the 4 major RPG classes, but your poll only has 3? What?

I typically start as an arsehole, but typically branch out, or even sometimes give up on that path halfways. Depends on how the story of my character goes, really.

I voted melee/archer. I prefer the archery side but bow/arrow damage is often poor so you need melee.

I like a combination of everything. I'll usually go heavy on the mage-side of things and toss in a melee weapon and marksman.

My first Skyrim character will predominantly use magic, backed by certain weapons (dagger, bow and axe) that she herself enchanted with runes. For your survey, I voted "other."

A reason I like to play 'pure' types in the beginning, is so I don't tap everything out right away, thereby giving me more to look forward to with different characters later on.

I usually run about in Heavy Armor with short/long swords and shields throwing around some magic. So yeah.

Melee/archer, shoot down an opponent. Unless they get too close...
