What do you expect the game to be rated?

M, this game is a lot more gory then oblivion and who knows if you can kill the children or not so it seems quite violent so it deserves an M.

It will be an M rating. Oblivion was... well, actually, Oblivion was a "T" but got bumped to "M" (I still have my collectors Ed. with the "T" rating) because of nudity mods. Which is odd, since that's not game content, so to speak. The characters in Oblivion had no genitalia under the loincloths.

Anyway, I hope they realize it will get an M rating, and take the artistic liberties that come with the territory, giving us satisfying combat, plenty of tasteful gore and mature themes.

No doubt an M, this is a rather silly topic. There's no way it would only be T. Anything with even slightly realistic killing is an M.

What are we considering "slightly realistic?" I'd say Morrowind qualifies for that, but Morrowind was rated T.

Well, you fire a gun or swing a sword at them. Blood comes out and then scream in horrer, or get dismembered and die. What I mean by that is that if in the game you fire your 'flower' at them and they sparkle and fall over 'dead', that killing won't get you an M rating.

Morrowing was T because game ratings were much more lax back when it was released. They have gotten far stricter since. Also Morrowinds graphics were a fair bit worse, so maybe it wasn't 'realistic' enough. :P

M rating for sure, because T rating restricts the content that you can put in a game.

Morrowind certainly qualifies for all of those things. Blood, scream in horror, fall to their death. I'd even say that Morrowind's death animations were far more dramatic than the typical Havok'd fall from Oblivion.

But I can see that ratings were probably more lax back then, though I don't really remember one way or the other. Ratings are never something I've concerned myself with, so I don't usually notice.

Regardless, I think we'd both agree that Skyrim will definitely be rated M. I can't imagine anything more or less than that.

Todd said that they weren't specifically shooting for any rating, but it would probably be rated M.

Also, Oblivion was rated M, partially because of that infamous mod, but also because apparently they didn't show some stuff in the demo released to the ESRB, so it was changed to M from T.

It will be M, and the pre 18, pre 17 (never understood any games being 18 plus when even NC-17 rated movies are, by definition, only 17 plus requisite) and even pre 16 teens will get it and enjoy it and make up about half of its sales demographic. . . and, so long as they don't become callous, deranged or murderous, more power to them. Lol.

Pretty much. It would only make it to Ao if they added like, SUPER extreme sixual things, which they won't. And it would only go down to T if there was no language, and they toned down the violence, and I'm quite sure they may throw around a few obceneties and there will certainly be plenty of violence. :D

M ~what else?
Now-a-days anything not rated M is seen as a kids game, regardless.
If you are asking what rating will it deserve... That's entirely different.

Actually this is not new... The original Transformers movie (and I do mean the original first one), had 1 single mild swear word put into it for marketing reasons.
This ensured that they got the evening time slots, and not the early kids matinee showing. They wanted teens and young advlts to see it, and the cursing spared them the dreaded G rating.

I think it will get an M. The darker setting and tone coupled with the fact there's a civil war will put it onto M territory.

Neither of those things would make the game an M. It's the blood and the mature themes like drugs that would do it.

As for the comments like "I won't buy it if it's not M" and such, really? This game will almost certainly be M, but 90% of what is involved in TES would fall just fine under the T rating. It's the drugs and more grizzly corpses and such that push it into M territory. Oblivion would have easily been rated T without the drugs and the more detailed gory corpses.

Pre-Morrowind sixual themes might have pushed it into M territory. In Morrowind and Oblivion the sixual themes I know of would still have been in "T" territory. People are really underestimating what passes with T.

Edit: I see this person beat me to it.
there's plenty of games that are T that have blood :S
