What do you get up to in Morthal?

Post » Thu Dec 05, 2013 3:09 pm

For me, Morthal has always been my least favourite city in Skyrim. There's only one quest, and other than that one quest, there really is no point in going there. Unless you are Roleplaying.

Despite this. I really enjoy Dragon fights in Morthal. Many a time have I fought a Dragon on a very misty day on Legendary difficulty in Morthal. So much fun!

What about you guys? What do your characters get up to in Morthal?

Get drunk... it's a quiet place though, calm and peaceful.

Besides, I'm planning to build a house around the swamps soon with my character.

The most worthless 'town' ever in TES. Not only does it suffer from the 'Riverwood copy paste' issue like every single town/village but it also has no General store and no Blacksmith. Seriously, what is the point?

Most of the inhabitants are boring Nord hicks as well, no real reason to go here.

Its such a moody/gloomy place. Only time I really visit is when hunting deer or elk in the marsh. Other then that I kinda avoid the place.

For some reason this topic duplicated itself. I have no idea why this happened.

Great place to visit if you want to rejoin the living. Seem to remember being there on assignment from the Dark Brotherhood as well. Trained alchemy there a few times too.

Yeah, it is the place to go if you want to stop being a Vampire.

Maybe a crazed murdering skooma drinking Khajiit needs some inspiration?

I do all the quests there and that's about it. The only times I go back are to offload my potions at the shop and, if she's not in there I'll take all the potions and ingredients lying around, as well as the coin bags under the counter. Basically everything downstairs. I've never had a hit squad after me from stealing everything in there, unlike the Inn.

On one character, no matter how I got to Morthal, I'd always have a dragon attack. That was always fun. It was that playthrough I realised most buildings have dragon perches. I'd never noticed before.

My current character just doesn't bother with the place, even though Windstad is her 'home base.' She goes to Solitude instead.

The marshes are a good source of semi-rare ingredients and there's some interesting things out in the Marsh to explore. Go far enough North and there are Horkers that nest along the coast too.

The lack of amenities keep it from being much more then a stop over town, though. There's a charm to it (I grew up and live in a small town, so the smaller communities appeal to me) - a rough hewn sort of charm. It's no Falkreath, that's for certain.

Worst town in all of Skyrim. I just do their main side quest and move on from that miserable piece of [censored].

Morthal has my favorite Jarl. That's about it.

It's a shame really, the Jarl for some reason seems like she has a lot of potential. Aesthetically the town's great, with a snowy mountain one end and a marsh on the other. But yes, it really is a miserable piece of [censored]. They could have done ALOT more with it.

Well. She definably is my favorite Jarl and the only USEFUL one... All other Jarls don't do nothing for ye'! She will though, if she knows ye' during the Thalmor party.

Agreed that Morthal doesn't make anyone happy. My characters only stop there while travelling, to spend the night and sell at least some loot. If they use Conjuration, Falion's the master trainer.

I quite enjoy the ambiance of Morthal; while it's rather lacking in productivity, it was quaint enough for the majority of my characters to call home at one point or another. The desirable alchemical ingredients found in the marsh are simply icing on the cake.

For those on the PC, the mod "Interesting NPCs" (Along with a metric boatload of various other mods, I'm just speaking from my own loadout) adds a Blacksmith to the town just beyond Falion's house. There's no forge to go along with him (Interesting NPCs tends to make the characters "soft" impact with other parts of the game) but there's a reason for that if you ask him about it.

Just makes Morthal slightly more useful to the questing adventurer.

I always end up taking the Investor perk since it's so hard to get rid of all the loot later in the game (and all those things I craft to raise my crafting skills), so that means at least Falion, Jonna and Lami will sell and buy anything. I use the plug-in of Immersive Patrols that adds travelling merchants, they stop at the Moorside Inn, too.

Wish I could rebuild Hroggar's house as my own - it's a very nice location, near the pub with a little private grave at the back. Hroggar can stay in Alva's house .. :)

That's a good point actually. I wonder if there's a mod for that? It is indeed a very nice location for a home.
