What do you guys use your house for?

Post » Wed Feb 02, 2011 7:04 am

I live in megaton and i have so many weapons it takes like 2 minutes to scroll down to the bottom of the list. When im bored all i do is go around and find guns and supplies to make guns, my house is crammed full. I also collect clothes and anything rare I have so much armor. So pretty much the only thing i use my house for is storage and i was also wandering if any one else hoards weapons and cool items.

These days I generally park there pending my next play of the game.

And yes, the nuka machine is chockers with chems, food, alcohol, water, fingers and tobacco (the cool keeps the last two fresh).

The locker immediately to the left of the entrance is chockers with my 'working' gear, and anything that I happen to scab in the wastes. The locker on the opposite wall contains my collection of perfect condition armour/clothing rigs, and a perfect specimen of every weapon I collect, except for the specials that I use.

The desk drawer is full of my collection of syringes (don't ask, Blackdog Jack had a bad med habit at one point). That room also has a pile of collectibles - teddy bears, pre-war books, nuka cola cr*p, etc)

The main room floor is littered with brahmin skulls, balls of all types, a couple of raider heads for Dogmeat to play with, and any crap that the d*mn robot knocks off the shelves.

I was going to try and drag a dead raider back to have as a wall decoration, but he wouldn't fit in the shopping trolley I tried to shove him in, and because I couldn't stash him in my gear, I couldn't reverse pickpocket him onto Fawkes.

This game turned me into a packrat....

I gather all pre-war money and put it all in the shelf upstairs on the first room, i also collect mutilated body parts and drop it in the floor of the same room. All boxed and canned food is dropped next to the refrigerator. I put an ashtray on the table next to my Nuka Cola machine with some packs of cigarettes along with some whisky bottles.

Next thing i'm gonna do, is get Cherry to live with me, you know... with the promise that i'll take her to Rivet City someday ;)

Why not just move in with Dukov?

I just use my house for sleeping, and store all the stuff I choose to keep (which isn't much, it's mostly stuff I can't sell because the merchants ran out of caps) in the locker by the door. The only decor I use is the stuff Moira sells: Nuka machine, workbench, and laboratory so I can detox myself. And the Pre-War theme, of course.

I live in a large tent. By the door is a locker filled with all the extra sets of vanilla armor and clothing I've hauled home. Against the back wall is my workbench with a toolbox chock full of custom weapon components and weapon mod kits. The sleeping area has extra beds for my companions and two footlockers- one for vanilla weapons and one for Modded weapons. In the safe are gold coins, gold bars and gemstones. There's a crate full of magazines, another stuffed with teddy bears. miniature robots and other toys, and one for miscelleanous crap like Radscorpion stingers and ashtrays. I have a locker for unique weapons/armors and a wardrobe for the clothing I actually wear.

By the dining area is a crate filled with cooking instruments, grills, and all of my food and aid items. Last but not least, I have four pet Iguanas wandering around guarding against intruders. A thief crept in as I slept one night and they slaughtered him :hehe:

I use Megaton as my main house. I also found an Abandonded Shack somewhere, so I use that as my second home.

I use the locker to the left to store parts for schematic weapons, because I can open it while standing in front of the work bench, so no encumberance issues. I keep knick-knacks on the shelves next to the stairs. So far there is a baseball bat, ball, and glove, a toy car, a Nuka-Cola truck, and some sheet music I found. I put all the Nuka-Cola that I find in the refrigerator (104 bottles so far). I have a copy of The Wasteland Survival Guide sitting on my desk. In the desk drawers I put all the pre-war money that I find. The filing cabinet has all the small-guns ammo that I find. I RP my character to carry only 4x what his weapons can hold. The second locker downstairs has clothing and armor. The only clothing that I decided not to keep was Lucas Simms' Sherriff's coat and hat. I placed those on his bed after Mr. Burke killed him.

I racked up all the mutilated body parts i could find and just spilled them all over the floor. I also killed a few followers in there to add to the deathly feeling that you should feel when you see the house.

I put a dead dogmeat next to a dog food bowl and a dead paliden on the bed ^^

All my stuff is there. The locker next to the door holds spare guns and ammo, repair parts and weapon mods. The locker next to the kitchen holds chems and miscellanea (?) which i use to build stuff. Fridge holds food and drinks, obviously. I use an extended version of the Megaton house, and the basemant holds all armor and outfits. With laboratory, infirmary and workbench, it makes for a centralised armory and base of operations :)

wait, what?

I'd really like to try some new stuff out. I'm still on the vanilla version of GOTY. Are you up to send me some detailed info via PM? I don't want to hijack the thread.

Colonel Tannanbaum lives on-base, in the CO Quarters of Fort Sheridan.

Mostly, he goes back there to relax and clear his mind... maybe listen to a little music. There are a few live radio stations still in Illinois... although one of them tends to play 'folksy' stuff and country. The other is a pretty decent mix of big band, rock and roll, jazz, and swing... so he does have some escape from all that talk of drunken fights, dead friends and family, God, and patriotism. Not that he's got anything against patriotism.

He is, after all, a Full-Bird Colonel of the United States Marine Corps.

No, that being said... his quarters is pretty much used as a quiet escape from the daily duties of cleaving out a livable swath of land in the ravaged Midwest. Between fending off the numerous 'tribes' who want their weapons and armor, he also has to deal with the fractured remnants of the Midwestern Brotherhood of Steel. It was pretty ugly at first... a lot of good men and women gave their lives to seize the fort from the technophile Reavers who had set up camp outside it. Once they broke through the defenses, however, they quickly learned that the Reavers had never managed to get inside.

Most of the technology within the facility was perfectly preserved... some of it was still running!

The good Lord only knows what he would do without his sanctuary... and he really doesn't want to find out. The stress of trying to keep things going without the help they had been receiving from the Capital Wasteland is rough. Add into that the fact that the remaining facilities on the East Coast have designated Fort Sheridan 'Midwestern Command' and placed Colonel Tannanbaum in charge of Operation: Reclamation... he needs all the me-time he can get.

Whoops... there go the alarms again. I'd better get him moving.

-_-;' Freakin' Marauders.

The house in Megaton I use as a trophy room, and to place the helmets of Enclave soldiers in as a sort of tally.

I used to live in Megaton, set up displays of armor and weaponry and all that jazz.

But lately, I've been gravitating towards the small "bunker" in West Farragut Metro Station. The Station itself can be protected by a Protectotron, and the room itself is basically out of the way, yet also on the way towards the GNR Outpost. It's the room by the locked caged generators that you can vent gas into to kill the Feral Ghouls that used to inhabit down there.

The Room's loaded, really. Two clearable shelving units, a First Aid Box to store chems, two desks, a Safe, filing cabinets, a loooooooong workbench that's wonderful for displaying a Helmet Collection, a nice, comfy black wingback chair, and a bunk that's mercifully clean (Unlike most bunks and beds in the wasteland, which are merely soiled mattresses). Also a computer to mess around with.

Finally, it's remote and generally uninhabited region means you don't have to tolerate random strangers running up to you and giving you useless crap all the time. It's also a lot more centralized, in regards to mid-to-late game, being within a stone's throw of the Citadel, Rivet City, Project Purity, and the DC Ruins.

Honestly, if it weren't for New Vegas coming out tomorrow, I'd probably dive into the GECK and remove the second desk in the room and install a Bobblehead display and make it my perma-home.
