What DO YOU LIKE about Crysis 2?

Post » Sun Oct 24, 2010 10:06 pm

Ok, so we get all the flames and hate of the forums against Crytek and Crysis2 messing up some stuff with the game, I for one understand everyone's frustration considering I've ordered two Nano Editions that have yet to be shipped...

BUT all that aside, lets look at the positives, I mean, Im sure all this will be fixed within this week or next. The community on these forums makes it seem as if Crysis 2 is a complete failure, and I for one BEG TO DIFFER.

Once you get past actually getting into the game, it's actually very good. The two main things I like is the pace of the MultiPlayer that keeps your adrenalin pimping at all times since you never know what lays behind that corner, hell your enemy could be invisible and staring right into your eyes.

In SinglePlayer, the AI is EXTREMELY smart, well, in Post-Human Warrior mode at least. So it requires some thinking which makes SinglePlayer more really fun. That is comming from a person who generally hates playing SinglePlayer in most games.

So yea, like the thread title asks, What DO YOU LIKE about Crysis 2?

I love the campaign and the multiplayer. Fun, thrilling, different, and beautiful. Although, the multiplayer has a lot of BS in it and that's only because of connection. My friend was host and his internet is terrible, the hole lobby had 1-2 bar connections. My other friend was host and the we had 3-4 bar connections and it was so much fun! Especially when the next game I was host and I had the fastest connection(Comcast tower practically in my front yard) and the BS was gone. All of it, not just some stuff here or there, but all of it! I have more fun and less BS on a good connection game of Crysis 2 than I do with CoD 4, and that my friends, is definitely saying something.

I was disappointed in the Campaign, it felt far too small-scale and some of the checkpoints were annoyingly far apart, and there's basically no replay value. But it's still better than 99% of Campaigns out there. At least they came up with a respectable storyline and, while they missed out on a lot, what they did include was very good.
Multiplayer is the best part, the Nanosuit is a plain awesome addition to MP, it's also skilled and the killstreaks are fun without being ridiculously overpowered.

Score
I absolutely love the score! Well, except for Zimmer's unmotivated main theme, that is. The rest is epic, deep and has a great sense of dramaturgy. Tracks like "New York Aftermath" or "Morituri" send chills down my spine. Imho one of the best game scores released so far, absolutely en par with famous Jeremy Soule scores.

Visual Art
The game has great visuals, and I don't just mean the rendering capabilities of the engine. The catastrophic beauty portrayed in the campaign is breathtaking, that includes the vistas of massive rifts in the ground below skyscraqers, amazing realtime cutscenes with collapsing buildings and the overall dramaturgy (including the sound design).

Story
While the narrative is inconsistent with Crysis 1 (especially what concerns the Ceph) and overall too much Gordon Freeman style for my taste (unexplicable actions taken by the protagonist -> immersion breaker), the story really expands the Crysis universe in a way that there is more background and more character added. While the original title's characters were pretty random, we met some really interesting characters such as Hargreave with a unique approach to their personal history. Overall the entire dark painted "man in the machine" theme and the Nanosuit symbiosis added a nice philosophical touch to the shooter which used to be rather simple in terms of fiction before.

Multiplayer
Absolutely love the gameplay mechanics. Sure, they need to address some netcode/security issues and balancing problems, but my overall impression is still very good. I can see the potential once these things are fixed. I like the fresh approach to the classic "king of the hill" gametype and the customizable Nanosuit is just plain fun. That's something that sets it apart from any other military shooter and kinda reminds me of the time when I played Jedi Outcast, which featured a lot more than just projectile weapons in gameplay. That was back in 2002 and with Crysis 2, I finally found a game that goes into a similar direction again and adds some extra spice to the generic use of ballistic weapons.

Very good thread, TC. The "official" forums like this one are often full of flames and complaints that I dont like to visit anymore if it doesnt have positive threads like yours.

I only enjoyed the missions in which you fight the CELL soldiers because they're more fun and the levels are more open, whereas as the later levels feel like other super linear FPS (e.g Halo, Killzone ...). Those levels are O.K. but I dont want to replay these missions. Nanosuit and weapons customization are also positive points in this game. Oh, the story written by Richard Morgan is pretty good too.

TBH... Everything, it's a work of art...

I loved the fact this game had a propper story... and actually added value to the original story... even though the story was very basic in the original... I mean come one, as amazing as the first Crysis was, it really lacked in story... so yeah, very happy to of had a story to keep me on the edge of my seat, even during the cut scenes... thats when you want to chill out after intence battle :L but not me... i was hooked.

The multiplayer is nothing like Crysis was... nothing at all like it... but it's SOOOOO GOOD!!! I mean, Crysis wars and Crysis 2 MP are there own types of game... and both of them hold there own... they are both very good... but i would have to say C2 MP is my favorite out of the 2, the gameplay and levels just work so well.

So what if it's not DX11... it still looks amazing! I mean, what they were able to do with DX9 and console hardware is a hugh step forward... sure it would be nice to see what DX11 could do... but the amount of people flaming about it is just stupid... I mean, have all PC players lost the ability to appreciate a game for what it is... A GAME!

Okay, i would like to have seen more graphic options, thats only expected, and i am a little upset that we only get to choose 3 pre-sets... becuase I really want to chage the distance that things pop into view... that is very annoying... but still...

Yes, I agree with yall for the most part. It seems that the game itself is excellent, the setback, I think, is just the way in which it was released.

I began experimenting with the customization and stuff in MP, and it seems pretty nice so far... though for some reason am better with SCAR using no optical ad-on / scope for some reason lol.

Keep up the comments, they tend to reflect what the actual Game is all about, with will be the most important aspect come 2 weeks from now, after all.

So far i'm in the Train level or something on the campaign, and i have to say it's freaking amazing. The visuals, the gameplay, the length of the campaign, it just makes up for a nice singleplayer experience. On the multiplayer side, i've tried the demo and got hooked. When i finish the campaign i'll see if it lives up to the hype. I dont get why ppl trash this game so hard btw. Some 4uckin' haters keep saying over and over again that the graphics svck, to hell with them all. IMO that's all. See you guys in the battlefield!

im actually really sorry i buyed it, the MP i got bored in a day, the SP is nowhere near what i was hoping for , you really barely see NY city, its all ugly dark ruins, you can just about not reconfigure anything , might as well they dont even pretend that it plays in NY... crysis2 is just a sad excuse being a crytek game :( BOOO

i haven't finished the SP yet, i play every day a little bit , but its fairly boring, so i do little by little

so nothing

I like how the single player is paced and just feels like it flows, even though I think the overall story wasn't that good. It just feels like they trimmed all the fat off the Crysis 1 level designs. And I like how they improved how you access the suit powers, much better than Crysis 1. If only they hadn't of taken out speed mode.....
