Kind of bad poll options. Lumping morrowind quests with oblivion? There has to be a special place in oblivion for you.

Ideal for me would be a mix of morrowind and fallout 3. Some really good quests, mixed with lots of progression type quests. (For example progressing in a guild/house faction in morrowind)

i chose "i don't care" kuz i DO like doing optional quests but the words you used to describe the amount for low quantity seemed really small (you used the word FEW).
to me a FEW is like 3...
i hope there's quests like in The Witcher 2 how they kinda meld together to uncover a story :D that'd be awesome!

I like the quantity, the amount of quality put into each one is decided by the game developer. With a huge amount of side quests, you can still find new quests to do on your 3rd or 4th playthrough of the game which keeps it fresh. In fallout it felt like you could go through the game entirely on one playthrough (maybe 2 if you wanted to do something different with megaton) because the side quests were well advertised and easy to find.

I not only want small quests all through the game, I want some that are hard to find... or completely blocked out to certain characters because of their choices or playstyle.

Did anyone else think at first sight "Why is this guy comparing Modern Warfare to Oblivion?"

Good writing and a few longer side quests is always good, but I personally would also like a large number of relatively smaller side quests, sometimes the family in the isolated farmstead really do just want you to kill the pack of wolves that are after their sheep.
A good mix of both give you some things to get your teeth into ( the collector, lifting the vale, or FO3's see if my brother is alright, oh look this just got complicated ), and fills the world with smaller easier things to do.
I worry that a smaller number of more involved quests could leave the world feeling a bit empty, plenty of little things to do rewards exploration a bit more perhaps.

I want A LOT of good side quests. Nothing like "take this letter to this guy in this town and come back to collect your reward".

I'd like a balance of both. Maybe 50 or so short quests and 10-15 epic ones instead of another 50 short, forgettable ones. Still, Fallout 3 didn't have to also focus on several different guild questlines so its hard to compare.

As many good side quests as possible obviously. The world does need to be filled out. Even if they are very good I can't live with the game only having 5-10 sidequests outside of guild questlines. The world can be asily filled out with smaller quests as well.

Morrowind style.
Morrowind had about twice as many quests as Oblivion; I don't even see how you could put them in the same category here.

A lot of small sidequests give a much better impression of a real, believable and immersive game world than one single and long, albeit perfect quest. In this case, quantity has its own quality.

Without quests like those your left with only half a dozen or so quests. You just can't have 150 long, creative quests written by Steven King. People need stuff done abd their willing to hire the Nerevarine/Champion of Cyrodiil/Dovahkiin to do it.
I'd prefer a balance of both, maybe 50+ shortish quests "deliver this letter" or "massacre that goblin tribe".

And maybe 20 or so longer, hand crafted quests like, "Gather evidence for my book on the Falmer by finding a few of their ruins and bringing back artifacts" and "Find out why the inhabitants of this village have all disappeared".

The poll is a bit weird. Option A is quality over quantity, option B is quantity over quality and option C is quality and quantity. Easy to decide.

Personally I don't want quests like in Oblivion anymore (or at least I don't want the majority of quests to be like that). FO3 was a good start and New Vegas in my opinion showed what can be done regarding choices and consequences. The quests in NV were way better than any of the simple fetch/kill/escort quests of Oblivion. I wouldn't mind if there were a few 'filler' quests, but I want quests that are really interactive with choices and consequences and not just 'I lost my sword, bring it back please'. I don't care for the length of a single quest, but I want choices.

Fallout 3 had too few quests though, after 20 hours of gameplay I had a hard time finding new quests already.

What is the point of 100 repetitive, cloned, " get my ring back" quests?

It adds little to nothing to the game play.

One thing that really annoyed me about oblivion was all these quests, that took around an hour each only to be rewarded with $150. Woot....
The biggest reward for doing half of these quests was the skill levels you got from wading through the countless goblins or marauders.

I understand that you're always going to have generic quests. But I would like to see a point to doing the aside from skill levels. $150 for spending an hour trawling a cave for a ring is almost insulting. I know that its all level dependent, but you do have to do some quests at a low level.

I want quantity and quality. I like the huge amount of sidequests in Morrowind, but the quests were so much enjoyable in Oblivion. I had more fun doing the Thieves Guild quest in Oblivion than in Morrowind because it involved more than just "go kill this guy" or "or go talk to this guy", etc.

Of course, I don't want too much quality, otherwise there won't be that many quests, like in Fallout 3.

A balance between quantity and quality.

Indeed.

I get the impression Bethesda are devoting a lot more time to side-quests this time around, so I wouldn't be surprised to see both the quality and quality go up a bit.

hehe, well what I meen by Fallouts quest was most were unique, if you did not like them than thats your opinion I guess. As for Oblivion 90% of every side quest I came upon wanted me to go get a weapon out of a cave and bring it back or rescue someone from zombies and bring them back.

That't not the case at all. Lol. You obviously haven't played any of the good quests.
Vearmina's quest, with probably the best dungeon in the game
Whodunnit!? Which was simply the best Dark brotherhood quest in the game
Sheogoraths hillarious quest of madness
The shadow over hackdirt.
The Mages guild recomendation quest for Anvil

Etc.

This

A good mix of quest length and styles is what we need. You need something for the odd half hour when you get chance to play and want to feel that you've managed to achieve something. And then there's the longer and more involved quest 'chains' for the longer play session.

very much looking forward to the radiant AI quests, it will add a lot of longevity to exloring the world aside from the main story, nice to know that once the game ends there will still be people coming up to you asking for help with this, that or the other, keeps the world feeling real.

Radiant AI got nothing to do with Quests... Radiant STORY on the other hand. :P
But yes, Radiant Story will most likely increase the re-playability of the game by far, as in every playthrough, there's a new guy wanting a quest done, in a different dungeon than before. :)

I found the options too narrow to vote - option d didn't appeal as I end up selling most stuff given as a reward and option C just suggests the quests are longer but makes no comment about quality

Go fetch quests are fine - they are the bread and butter quests - and often drive you to explore new places which lead to other quests - they are also a simple way to make some money and level up - with all the thieving going on in Tamriel and the danger each land is in when you turn up it's no wonder the citizens are looking for someone to go risk their life - the only thing that annoys me is the economy is so broke that the loot you bring back often far outweighs the reward offered.

I think from what I've seen of the making of Skyrim videos that the devs enjoy doing quests just as much as us and have had plenty of time in the past 5 years to think up some entertaining ones - have a little faith the devs are gamers too
