What Do You Like/Hate About The TES Games?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:12 pm

Greetings People. I started this topic because that I was bored, and right now I think that there arent anything interesting to discuss in the forum right now. So I would like your thoughts of what you hate or like in the games. I'll start with some of the things that I like and hate or things that could have been different or changed. You are welcome to talk about my opinions, or you cold post some yourself. Remember this is about The Elder Scrolls games in general, and not about the next game (TES V).

I'll beginn with saying that I liked the story of morrowind. You start the game as a prisoner, and ending up with becoming the greatest legend that ever walked in the land of the dunmer. I also think that it was cool that you had to get the corprus diesease in the main quest. Basicly, i think it is a great game.

In oblivion, I didn't like the enchanting style. i couldn't even make more that 1 enchantment on my armor or clothes! and where are all the "healing on self" scrolls? just think that many things are limited in the game. Also i miss the crossbows and throwin star. Oh, and the npc's, all them felt so lame and boring. Even in morrowind, they had a little more "life", you could really feel that the dunmer hated you because you were an outlander. When I play oblivion, i don't feel that the people (exept the emporer) think a sh.. about me. Come on, morrowind npc's had no voice dialog, only text, and they seemed more exiting than in oblivion.

Well thats what I got right now, please write what you think is good/bad!

I love the sandbox elements, and I love the way they draw you into the universe.

I love being able to go pretty much anywhere in the world. That is, you aren't stuck on a path in the world, where you can see a place, but not go to it. Although there are the invisible walls, I don't expect the world to be able to go on forever. In pretty much every game I've played, I always try to explore, so that is why I love these games.

i liek morrowind hugely open and from wht i saw on X-PLAY in oblivion the enemies drop random items not what they are wearing which compared to morrowind is BOGUS .... all they need to do is some how combine all teh maps on one thing make it a free downloadable MMORPG with the option to buy a membership for extra quest / items taht would pwn the non payer (like me cuz im just a F2P type of persion)

In Oblivion they drop what they are wearing too; only a few things are unlootable.

What I hate is when typical fantasy elements find their way in without a niche or some sort of new twist on them. The Dwemer are a good example of what I would like to see happen with fantasy cliches. They are called dwarves even though they're actually elves and aren't your typical mason in the mountains who forges shiny and decorated weapons and jewels. Instead they are technologically knowledgeable, but not the scifi-tech that most fantasies have, rather a weird twisted technology which relies on exploiting the natural world. That is what makes them so interesting, I've never seen anything like them in a game before. I'd also like to see the demonification of daedra to terminated. Morrowind gave them tons of depth, then Oblivion slaughtered that depth. Although, Shivering Isles did reverse some damage. I only hope Bethesda makes sure the trend set with SI continues.

I love the immersion of TES games, and the unique leveling system feels a little bit more natural than exp based. I love collecting the loot and having my own place to store all of it. I love that there are repercussions for your actions, good and bad. I love The Elder Scrolls Construction set.

I dislike (hate is too strong a word for TES) that some of the skill balancing is totally off. I dislike how they are slowly cutting away skills from the series. Eventually we will only have 3, Magic, Combat and Stealth. I Dislike that we console users can't get a "lite" TES construction set that allows us to rebalanced some things if not make new content. I dislike Enemies Scaling with you.

I like the way it makes me feel like I'm living a second life. I don't like being confined to just one area. I want to be able to visit at least two or three provincess at once.

I dislike:

All the stuff they deleted from the series, Pole-arms, Crossbows, Levitation, Climbing, Breaking doors, Able to purchase a boat, etc...

My favorite thing about TES is being a werewolf. I was extremely sad that they took that out in Oblivion, because BloodMoon and the whole Island of Solstheim was my gaming paradise.

I don't like that Bethesda took out the spear. I know not many people used that weapon in Morrowind, but some like me did and that was a big thing I hope they bring back.

Anyway it seem like Oblivion couldn't live up to Morrowinds standards, because they took out some of the things that made TES series so awesome almost like it had everything, but Oblivion or Morrowind they're are both some of the greatest games ever created.

dislike (oblivion) :
- level scaling
- too few skills
- a little too few spell effects
- too few weapons
- thrown into MQ (which imo was bad)
- a bit static world

True, spears in Morrowind were the most interesting weapon, you could poke the enemies then redraw and attack again then the enemy came closer.
Oblivion is far more balanced than Morrowind but they have also taken out some of the wild fun elements like fortify jump 100.

I played both Morrowind and Oblivion which im sure all of us have. Let me say first that in my opnion TES are the BEST Games ive played. I love the RPG style game. But i too felt that Oblivion was not as good as it could of been. Great game hands down just some things could be better.

I agree with the whole werewolf issue as well I never did get to become one ( got rid of the console before i could get that far) but would love to see the return of that and or the Whole Werewolf Vs Vampire fade that is now would be I think and awesome addition to the game

Oblivion
Having a brain fart atm but the Black Hand and the Assassins guild. I think there should of been more of a story to that guild and more safehouses.
Ranks/Postion Roles.
1. All the guilds Although you can become master in everyone I still dont have the feeling that Im in control, a little bit more to have to do with the guild I.e, recruting, getting missions, kick members out, etc, etc.
2. I think it would of been cool to become a Duke or a Baron or w/e Medevial title you wanna have should of been available. Hopefully in the next game there will be a little bit more of this.

I do like that you can own more than 1 house which if awesome, Loved the mission that came along with the mansion. I think there should be more of those.

Other than that I cant really think about Bad things for the games the over all gameplay and the things in them are remarkable. I know all good things must come to an end but I hope TES keeps the medival theme and continues making games for centuries.

Looking forward to the next game to come out.

Morrowind

+ Good questlines, not generic, faction infighting, religion, lots of factions, realistic, you can loot what enemies wear

- Graphics

Oblivion

+ Graphics

- Generic, few factions, no religious factions, can't loot what enemies wear.

Like:
-The free character creation
-That it's one of the VERY few games that has non-evil lizard people
-The open world aspect
-The (at least till recently present) bravery to go a different way than standard fantasy cliches
-That it's not a MMO
-First person view available

Dislike:
-The way the series went more towards standard fantasy recently
-Removal of certain weapon types and abilities

hahah, agreed with in full, reptiles ftw

i like how there is so many options and choices (like what race, class, guild or no guild, evil or good, etc)

the only thing that bothered me the most is not being able to roam into other provinces

In Oblivion, you are able to loot your enemies' corpses... (armor, weapons, etc.)

Oblivion
Likes
+Sandbox gaming
+Character Creation
+Different races
(and the fact that races that would usually class as villain on any other game like Orcs, Argonians, Khajiit, are for the most part, socially acceptable, i loved that).
+Graphics (2006)
+The fact that you could do what you wanted to do RP'ing.

Dislikes
-Not enough armor/weapons
-Character Creation (Facial hair)
-Guilds seemed useless (Members did nothing but hit sticks in the halls), after you became the guild leader, the guild became practically useless also (Other than pick up money etc).
-Not enough factions, no action going on, other than the milky cave.
-Character building (Stats/Classes) seemed rather shallow after a while.

After all is said and done, I loved Oblivion.

Most important for me was first person roleplaying. I hate 3rd person. Though, its good you can play 3rd person too in TES 3 and 4, so those who like it can play it that way.

secondly, the free world. Do whatever you want, whenever you want. Brilliant.

free character creation, all the weapons and items and magic and people to meet and quests to do etc.

dislike:
the fact that DLC's have replaced expansion packs. Half a dozen small DLC's will never equal Shivering Isles.
all of the things that slowly disappear from the games with each new chapter - cross bows, skills, game techniques etc.
the fact that there is no timing for quests - huge thing menacing everyone that will wait until you're ready to fight it. Somethings have to happen within a time period. I would like it if the MQ was a little more urgent. In Oblivion the forces of the evil Dagon were pounding down the gates of Cyrodil, but there's time to find some inn keepers special potato bread before going up to Bruma...
Oblivion's levelling system.
Oblivion's enchanting system
There aren't enough voice actors and animations in the game. Having hundreds of NPC's is great, but when they all talk and move the same, not so great. Even the Khajit and Argonians move just like the humans. Give some slither to the reptiles and where are those catlike reflexes? They've got tails - why not make some kind of advantage that uses that?

LIke:
Open world obviously
having strongholds - didn't realize how much I liked this until I played games where you're on you own with no place to store your stuff.
All of the customization possible.
modability
THe fact that I can run the game - please don't make TES5 require next year's pc
Good storylines and plots that suit your character - DB quest line, very well done.

I love Oblivion so much especially because of the open world it gives us... Doing whatever you want is real fun. However this could be improved a little more for example being able to join necromancers and fighting against mages guild or the same for the figthers guild and blackwood company. Or being able to help Mehrunes dagon against good :D

Another thing that should be improved is being able to wear all armors without any alterations. I mean how can an orc or nord wear a wood elfs armor? Perhaps the armor should be fixed using a repair hammer before wearing? And may be another skill could be added such as forging?

One of the things I like in TES is every npc have their own life, personality and name. I hate npcs named such as "megaton settler".
Also playing in first person is the one of the reasons I like TES games.
