What you'd like to see in FOOL that you'v seen in other MMOs

Post » Sun Aug 16, 2009 8:52 pm

Iv only played two MMOs. Star Trek Online and Fallen Earth. I dont think theres anything in STO that would work but FE is set in a similar setting to Fallout and there are 3 things Id like to see.

1. Crafting. Pick plants, mine ore, hunt animals, scavenge for scrap, grow veg then use these materials to make weapons, ammo, armor, meds, repair items, ext..

2. Vehicles. Horses, bikes, motobikes, quads, buggys, trucks ext. I know we did see vehicles in FO2 and FOT. Im just saying Id like to see them here too.

3. Crossbows/Bows and Arrows.

What would you like to see in Fallout Online that you'v seen in other MMOs or any other game for that matter?

Oh and I know FE copys Fallout a bit but thats why I play it  Join my Fallout Online Facebook page.

well unless you are pretty rich you would probably take up a bow/crossbow, then you would tie a bit of explosives on one a arrow, shoot it at a guy who have a plasma gun, then detonate it when it reaches the target. After that you would go to the dead guy and laugh at his puny plasma-toy :D Image

I also would like to see a bow/xbow with some sort of hick-rig twist to it (dynamite tied around the shaft etc.), I can see that as being quite fun and excellent for stealth ambushes, although one thing i think would be cool (from Kingdom of Loathing) is if you could build your own car/motorcycle and maintain with use of the repair skill (or craft lvl, whichever way the devs are doing it). It could be whole long series of quests to attain the parts needed and you could give people the choice of whether to build a motorcycle (low storage but fast travel and less parts), a car (4 person capacity and moderate storage) or a truck (2 person capacity, large amount of storage), maybe make the cars free roaming except in towns, and maybe even have the option to fit them with some cool weaponry/armour ala Mad Max style.

I absolutely LOVE the instance/dungeon system in WoW. I think it would be awesome to have something like that appear in FOOL.

i would like to see "secret quests".. dont know if its been in other mmo's but it prolly has.

it would go something like this:

u get a fun quest by some guy in town giving u a sniper rifle to kill some ghouls far away from town, sort of to bolster up the defense. as a reward u get the sniper rifle and two shots (the rifle and the shots cant be found anywhere else but are powerful). u would go "cool, i'll kill a boss or something with it". :p
but no! its needed to kill 2 super mutant brothers that are very powerful and on skates! without the rifle's range and power you'd be a dead man! so u kill them in the only way possible, without getting a straight forward instruction to do this, just vague clues... and as reward u get their skates (yay).
now the skates make u very fast for a short time and u go "cool, i'll cruise past these chicks really fast and show off!". WRONG! there are no chicks on the internets :p u need the skates to race this mad scientist that u somehow found back in town.
so u race him and thanks to your shiny new skates u win and he gives u an item that makes u bigger and stronger! awesome.. u were gonna use it impress the chicks again right? wrong..
the item is needed to enlarge a super mutant hiding inside a cave thats impossible to kill.. unless u enlarge him so that he gets impaled on the pointy things in the cave ceiling. of course this only gets him like down to 10% so u have to finish him off (which will still be tough) but when u're done u get a shiny new awesome reward!
its early and im at work, hope it made sense! In gaming terms... Life's a die, then you bich.

ok, break from work.

i had this idea in mind to encourage exploring with the different encounters being in the same level area but far from each other. the exploring would be a bit more fun and more rewarding and satisfy the explorer in people instead of just making u rage through levels.
also the encounters are just examples so please dont kill me if u think they're stupid :p

the two most important things about these sort of "quests" would be that u dont get straight instructions but vague clues. and the rewards/drops should be the sort of items that make u think "should i use it now or will i need it later.." In gaming terms... Life's a die, then you bich.

Heya,

What i personally would like to see is possibility to building up settlements with your guildies in middle of desert or random places.

You could build houses like bar, technology lab(upgrades), medical centre(to heal your wounds and radiation), workshop(weapon improvments?), hangar or garage(if vehlices going to be available) :)

Of course it would require a lot of dedication and investment from guildies just not make it easy. For badasses there would be possibility to having slaves, biches with pimps etc etc :)

You could hire some mercaneries for protection of your settlement against raiders or other guilds. Of course other guilds could attack, rob your settlement and in worst case even destroy it - it would be required to well balanace it and give longer time period to guilds come back and protect their village :)

etc etc..

i am really looking forward as there is a lot of things how to make this game great :D crossign fingers :D

see ya lads,
t. Nobody likes you. Everybody hates you. You're gonna lose. Smile, you fvck.

I'd like to see balance, and challenging end-game PvE fights. Let's face it, combat in FO doesn't lend itself to an MMO at all -- in all three "regular" Fallout games, when you get a single combat skill maxed out, you suddenly rip through most anything in the wastelands.

I'm anxious to see what changes are made to the combat system to lend itself to group-based play. Are they going to somehow adopt the Tank/Heal/DPS system, or utilize something else? (Personally, I have no problem with the T/H/DPS system, but I'm not creative enough to figure out how it could work here, so I'm hoping for something new.)

Are there going to be factions, and if so, how will they be balanced? Most games with factions tend to adopt 2 sides to choose from. Then each server ends up with a dominant side -- when server transfers happen, what's more likely... do players join a server where their faction is losing, to help even the odds? Or join a server where they're winning, and make the odds worse? Solution... go the route of DAoC (which unfortunately I haven't played) and have 3 factions. Let players do the balancing on their own.

This last assuming there are factions to begin with -- if there aren't, I would love to see some system of large-scale PvP. WAR tunred me on to the possibilities of a PvP-centric game, and while I don't expect a single-player RPG-turned-MMO to go that route, having PvP as more than a barely-thought-out sideshow would be nice.

A large, robust, and versatile crafting system is also a desperately-want in my book. I'm sick of games where the Auction House/Exchange/whatever is flooded with the same few user-created items taht everyone makes to level up crafting. Allow for some variety (pick your bonuses, perhaps, or have random ones, Diablo-style) so that the same crafted item can still have a lot of variety (read: utility).

That's a lot of suggestions, and a whole heap of expectations... let's see what can be done with it! (gamesas, I have faith in you! It's good to have you back.)

I think the most important thing to factor in is fun and some comedy appropriate to the situation. Stay away from the over-provacative use of scantily clothed females etc. Don't get me wrong, from a male perspective, beautiful women in a game is very nice, but unless they are in the role of a sleaze, don't make all women in the game sleazes.

I think another thing with open worlds is the ability of the character to get themselves into trouble by wandering into areas wihtout proper preparations. Don't give everything away up front, make the palyers have to explore, converse with the locals, scavenge for information, and most importantly include lots of random events to keep things interesting no matter what "zone" you are in.

I think it's totally appropriate for a newbie character to somehow obtain a very high powered item early on - however, they shouldn't be able to automatically "figure it out" and be able to use it effectively. They shouldn't also be able to "reap the benefits" of their ignorance by being able to sell said item (because they can't use it) for a huge sum of cash. Maybe this could be some sort of character intelligence or lore check. If they fail the check, all they see is a crude description of the item - for example, said newbie comes across what is really a plasma rifle stuck in the muck, but they fail their lore / INT check miserably, so all they see is a description of the item a "you see a strange stick in the mud at your feet that is glowing green on the end". If they fail the check only somewhat, the description could say something like, "you see a metalic object that resembles some old weapons you've seen in the past" or something like that. Base the amount of descriptive info they get on how well or bad they pass or don't pass the check.
Anyway, just a few things. I may chime in with more later.

Why not? Maybe they would have some type of lost technology arrowheads that explode or have different effects. Not to mention, it's hard to hide where you're shooting someone from when it's a big green ball of plasma plummeting toward someone's face, as opposed to a silent arrow shot. Could be good for character specs/builds Groin targeted shots FTW

I definitly would like to see talking Deathclaws make a return. Id also like to see large carnivores plants again. Join my Fallout Online Facebook page.

Im going to go out on a limb here and assume that if there are bows in fallout online, your not going to be given the choice between them and a frecking plasma gun!. Not at first anyway

It makes sense to have bows because they are easy to make and require 0 tech. they would make a good starting weapon. Crossbows could be of a higher level. Join my Fallout Online Facebook page.

Well, don′t underestimate the difficulty of making bows. Ever tried to find a living tree with fresh and flexible wood in the wasteland? No? Me neither, but i guess it′s pretty hard ;D.

I'd still say making a plasma gun is harder :P but you can make bows out of other materials than wood as well. Image
