What do you love about Fallout Series Discussion?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:36 pm

Simple question, what do you like the most about this particular forum?
For me, I think I live the most, is that I have a chance to debate, and discuss topics I am interested in with people who aren't 13 year olds calling me gay and dumb.
Well, most of the time that is.

What about you?

I don't know, I guess this part of the forum creates the most discussion right now, with a lot of people on different sides and with different ideas about the Fallout games and the direction the games are going in and whether or not they like that.

Also, I love to read the heated arguments that are sometimes here, I usually don't participate in those discussions because how I feel has been said by others a dozen times before, but it's still fun to read into that 'Clash of the Titans' :D

Agreed, but what really annoys me is the forumers who get so offended when people challenge their alignment
I.E. "Fallout New Vegas was a great game"
OMFG NO NO NO NO NO NO, FALLOUT 2 FTW, NOOB, GTFO!

Yeah, those people.

Sure, but you have that everywhere. In these forums those people mostly just get ignored, so it doesn't bother me that much. I really don't know how they do it, but somehow these forums attracted a lot of people who are willing to discuss things in a normal, civil way and, mostly, respect each others opinions.

Fixd that for ya, FNV is mostly accepted by the original fans, its Fallout 3/TES fans that get all "hurumph Fallout 3 got high ratings so there was nothing wrong with it why cant FNV be more like FO3?"

You have to admit though, there are people like that on both sides of the spectrum. I like Fallout 3 better than New Vegas but I don't think New Vegas has to be like Fallout 3. I think they're both good games, its just that they cater to different tastes.

I dont think i ever said that it was a bad game, just a bad Fallout game, that doesnt mean it isnt a good post-apocolyptic game, it just doesnt stay true to the key aspects of the Fallout series, it limits your choices and railroads you through the storyline, but I truly enjoyed it when i played it as an FPS, but i still am disapointed that it is considered the true Fallout by a bunch of FPS or TES fans that have never played the originals, then come on here and try to get rid of more Fallout aspects and push for more TES or FPS apects.

I agree with you, some of the more radical Fallout 3 players do often push for more TES aspects in fallout and I think they have trouble understanding the reasons why people resist that. The orginal games were very good, there is no doubt it my mind about that.

However, sometimes I do think that the kind of "original fallouts svck" talk does occasionally come about in response to "Fallout 3 svcks" talk (and vice-versa) and so its a vicious cycle. Somebody says something bad about one game and then somebody responds to that and the argument goes on and on and on.

Think of it this way, in a scope of nations, one nation invades another and kills the victim nations soldiers, that's bad, it is less bad if the victim nations soldiers kill the invaders.

But...isn't the situation more like one nation's government was usurped and replaced by a new one with different ideas and the soldiers of the old nation remain loyal and true to the former regime while still serving under the new government in some form but now there is new blood within the soldiers ranks as a result of the new government bringing in different soldiers so now their is a clash of ideologies which results in fights between the soldiers?

Not trying to argue with you Mako. :D

I just think we all should just stop the infighting and enjoy our games. ^_^

What if those different ideas come into conflict with the social and moral system of the society, and any form of speaking out is harshly punished by the Gesta-- thought police.

Haha, lovely metaphors, Lou and Mako :D

Anyways, on the topics. I think people who have a bit more knowledge, or want a bit more knowledge, about the Fallout series come here, aswell as those with ideas for a future game (who are redirected here) and those who need help with the ancient games. So basically, this is a pretty forum section sparkling with creativity and helpfulness. I usually just visited the Fallout 3 general forum, and then with the release of New Vegas, the F:NV general forum, but I find I go there less and less, only when I run out of fresh replies and topics here to comment :) On those forums, it's moslty people who go like "Reason why F3/F:NV is better","What's your favorite ----?", "One thing you want/don't want in the game", "I've finished the game, help me role play" and such. Kinda got boring fast :)

I also see people you always recognize on the forums here, like gabriel77dan, Styles, Mako Vlazkov, Lt. Andronicus, rusina, fattoler et cetera, and you can be assured there'll be intelligent and well-mannered discussions, aswell as good and logical ideas.

It is.

What I like about this forum is that, as a "series discussion", it isn't restricted to any single game, but is about discussing all of them as well as speculating on the forthcoming.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't have played them if the people here hadn't mentioned how cool they are. :fallout: I also learn alot more about the factions then I originally had.

I think my favourite aspect of the fallout series discussion is that it's a great place to go to and read topics about general fallout things, and with the usual people you get to know you know your going to get some great topics and intelligent discussions, with the occasional bit of spam here and there. And that people know a lot about fallout is great since you know people will know what there talking about.

*sigh*

Shall we create a Dead Fallout Gamers Society? We'll have secret meetings in caves, and we'll quote old game devs and speak about the old Fallouts and share our fan fiction. You wanna be in it?

Most people don't realize this, but good grammar is very important when trying to make an argument, or simply getting an idea across. Without it, it makes getting some form of respect very hard as most people don't want to try and anolyze a statement any longer than need be.
