What do you love and hate so far in F4?

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 12:02 am

The key-binding is stupid beyond belief. This, frankly ruins the whole game for me, so I can't say I'm feeling much love. I can't even move around while I'm in the building mode... except to move backwards. Guess how much fun I have lugging sofa's and turret's back and fourth  Placing walls is just, forget it, it's practically impossible.

Yeah I thought the same thing. I can't build a suit of power armor and turn a laser pistol into a rifle but I can't make my own ammo or recharge a battery

Like: Combat, exploration, crafting, settlement

Dislikes: anything not gameplay related pretty much like dialogue wheel, writing, story, characters, voice actors (they did a great job actually but Fallout isn't the place for voiced protags especially considering how they had to limit options because of it, which is another dislike.)

Games an overall 7/10 in my book but I'm kinda sad we just got a fun open world sandbox with a dumb story and nothing more, I already had MGSV for that. :P

Love the settlements, hope they do that in the next Elder Scrolls too.

Hate the dialog, hope they revert that back in future games.

Love:

Combat and suiceder mutants. When they run at me with a mini nukes it freaks me the hell out! I hear the ticking sound and I perk up. It reminds me of the orc guy with the bomb in lord of the rings battle at helms deep.

Hate:

1. I'm fine with this honestly... It doesn't effect me and makes it harder too since a lot of times, enemies won't have their weapons out so you won't know who would be the biggest threat. You could waste your sneak-attack critical on a guy with a pistol and then a guy with a fat man kills you.

2. Ye'h, the controls are whacky. I've found ways around it myself. My biggest issue with the settlement ordeal is that the settlements EXPECTS you to do everything for them and command them... It makes the NPCs seem like mindless robots more so than actual people. They could at least be smart enough to assign themselves to proper resources that they need and hopefully build their own resources (if they have the junk for it) too. Oh well, hopefully Bethesda does a patch for this or someone makes a mod.

Love:

  • The world - it's amazing to explore and ranges from disturbing to beautiful
  • The companions/writing - never ,ever, ever in a million years expected something like this in a Bethesda game. Granted, my expectations for this was super low but still, really enjoying the story and characters which is a Bethesda first.(well Morrowind story was pretty decent)
  • The crafting/loot - A new gun? Meh, i guess i'll save it or scrap it later... OH MY GOD A MULTIPACK OF DUCKTAPE!! AND WONDER GLUE!? HOLY [censored]!
  • Settelment build - Far deeper than i thought it would be
  • The combat - There is alot more variation in gameplay here compared to recent Bethesda titles. For example: Like VATS? Focus on pistols, agility and luck. Prefer more FPS style gameplay? Power armor and automatic weapons are for you!
  • Mini bosses/surprise Deathclaws - There's some massive Mirelurk boss in the Statehouse(i think? Second clue when following the Railroad) That really kicked my ass at level 15. It spawned more enemies and had a very nasty toxic attack, very fun.
  • Legendary loot - I love finding neat and unique items.
  • The semi-hidden stories - Like the Raiders in the brewery/Reserve and even the run away in the cabin close to Sanctuary.

"Hate"(mostly minor gripes really):

  • No real survival element; Scavanging for items is fun because of the crafting but food and aid items are way too abundant. Maby it's because of my luck investment but i'm running around with enough food and stimpacks to start a franchise of grocery stores/pharmacies. Waiting patiently for survival mods to come out.
  • No skill checks. Boo!
  • The exact same starting experience for a soldier and a lawyer. Apparently Spec Ops training is required to pass the BAR exam in the 2060's/70's. I'm not surprised, but i really hoped i could play as a civilian with no combat training coping with the wasteland. Hoping for a mod to come along to fix this aswell. Give me my 50's housewife VS the wasteland mod!
  • Too many fusion cores around. Power armor should be something you use very sparingly unless you invest in it.
  • The ridiculous super gore from FO3. You shoot a guy in the head and it litterally falls off.. WHAT!? It just looks stupid. If they had to have lots of gore i'd rather it would be like Soldier of Fortune, if anyone remebers that game.. or is old enough and still plays videogames..
  • The wonky shooting in third person.
  • No level scaling(if i've heard corectly) Yeah i actually liked the Skyrim rubber banding. After awhile you start to feel like a walking god and it get's boring, hopefully the difficulty increase will help.

Could just keep adding to these lists all day... all in all, i'm REALLY enjoying the game!

I absolutely hate when the enemy can throw a grenade or cocktail with such precision no matter what obstructions are in the way and land it at your feet. Makes me rage every time.

I love how beautiful the game looks and how the bad guys act a lot more realistic.

I hate how you have to make sure you stay on Piper's good side. After one day I dumped her and fetched Dogmeat. Now that's a good traveling partner!

I don't like the textures, too low resolution and low detail, and also don't like that if you fail at the first romance opportunity, there is no second chance, everything else is very good so far

The obvious things, graphics, improved combat, companions, improved voice acting, settlement building. Also Nick is the coolest companion, i'm a huge noir fan so i'm happy cappin crooks and solving problems.

As for the bad, i wish settlement building had more tutorials, still not 100% on wiring up the place. Making dogmeat take a "real" companion slot, although that was probably for balance. The lip sync bothered me at first but now its not as noticeable. Also i wish bashing and gernade tossing weren't tied to the same button...but i guess it was necessary. Really minor complaints in all honesty

I love the new power armor, and the new weapon crafting system.

I abhor the removal of the RPG element of Fallout. Fallout is no longer an RPG, just another FPS. With the removal of skills, and the addition of level restricted perks that would have taken the place of those skills, they have taken away the core of Fallout, which was character building and progression. 1/10 rating imo, the game shouldn't have been released.

Companion banter on quests and locations.

Settlement building as a concept

The level of detail in the environment

The weapon crafting system

The environmental diversity

Getting into a suit of power armor

Changing the pipboy UI colors on a whim

When Dogmeat holds an enemy down

The aggressive (but still predictable) AI

Voice diversity

Being able to name your character

Overall art direction

:flame:

My voiced character

Lack of snap to grid and select and place for settlement building

The way NPCs move when they're initially idle

Facial animations

Inventory management

I love almost everything about the game except ...

I hate the keybinding for the UI, particularly in crafting. Sometimes TAB selects things, sometimes it exits menus. Sometimes ESC exits menus, sometimes it pulls up the main menu. This is by far my biggest complaint about the game.

I hate the way modded weapons are given those extremely long Borderlandish names that won't entirely display. I love the modding system itself, though.

I hate that you can only send companions back to your settlements. Why can't I send them to my Diamond City house? Why can't I let them (particularly Nick and Piper) go home? Those two are neighbors anyway so easy to find and Piper has a newspaper and a sister to look after, Nick has an agency to run.

If you are sending him to Sanctuary, he's probably there somewhere. He always finds one of the three doghouses in the area, and all but the one behind the house closest to the bridge are out of the way. I stored one of the doghouses in my workshop and moved the other two to the center of town and now he's always easy to find.

Love:

- Combat and difficulty

- Exploration, but that's a given

- Improved NPC AI

- Improved NPC interaction (big step up from BGS games, though still a step down compared to FONV)

- Game looks great

Hate:

- No options in most quests other than to charge in and kill everything. Diplomacy, trickery, and other solutions should occasionally be possible depending on the character build

- Dialog system in general is bad with vague descriptions, and lack of skill use and options in general

- The perk system is a step up from Skyrim but perk requirements should be stricter, and removing skills entirely was a mistake.

- Horrible Inventory

- Poor keybindings that are only partially fixable

- Settlement idea is fine, but controls for building are poor, and I feel like the quests get pushed too often

I don't really remember things I enjoyed about it, any time I came close to enjoying something about it all the many, many, many things I detested about it reared their ugly heads. The game just became a frustration to play, I found myself looking for excuses not to pick it up, when forcing myself to play it I found myself avoiding talking to characters altogether as the dialogue system is practically broken.

The guns felt okay and the game looked okay, I suppose. The settlement building was a mildly intriguing game-within-a-game, that's honestly about it. Everything else about it was either vastly inferior to previous Bethesda games, in my opinion, or a pointless change that clashed with the ethos of what their games are typically about and made it feel aimless and joyless.

Yes lol my brother wanted to check out Fallout 4 before buying a copy himself. He's like why not take that gun, watch, armor etc. He was really scratching his head when I'd be getting smiles picking up Duct Tape and Glues lol

Love:

  • I like the crafting and power armor system.
  • I like the map so far, and exploring it.
  • Difficulty is nice.
  • VATS is muuch better. Almost OP in some builds.
  • All special and most perks are worth taking and actually some hard choices this time, unlike other FO.

Hate:

  • My preferred play-style has endless bugs and major gameplay issues, it's actually pretty annoying at this point. I had to bump down the difficulty due to them.
  • The dialogue and inventory systems are trash.

Loving the game, but no blueprints to build unique weapons is a massive shame! It gets a bit samey with these 50 base weapons, there should be more variety, rifles, shotguns etc. New Vegas did better at this. Also no weapon degrade gets a bit boring, no need to repair your guns... "they all just work"

i don't like how every enemy knows exactly where I am once combat begins. Even if I go behind a wall, especially when they seem to be able to shoot through walls.

Love:

Combat in general, the settlement system, the mods, how much SPECIAL actually matters.

Hate:

The dialogue wheel; they sacrificed a lot of options just to get a voiced protagonist, and some people stop talking to you altogether, (The voicing isn't inherently bad, but they half-assed it), the workshop editor, the perk chart; Savant, Night Person, VANS, etc. are useless, and it really needs some rearranging.

There's bugs they need to fix. It hasn't crashed in 3 hours worth, but some of the controls tank for no reason. Mines randomly aren't there after detonation/disarming when you reload (lost at least 4 of them thanks to that)

The good:
-Better graphics.
-Surfaces and characters are actually wet when it rains.
-Rain no longer clips through surfaces.
-Sprinting.
-Iron sights.
-The fact that companions can leave you if you do too many bad things.
-Better selection of clothes than the last two games.
-You can actually peeve off a faction for a change.
-More varied map.
-More cinematic cutscenes.
-You can build and maintain settlements.
-Romance is better than in Skyrim.
-More gun mods.

The bad:
-Lack of "tell me about..." topics.
-A lot of side quests are about clearing raider hideouts.
-Settlement size limits.
-Red Rocket and Sanctuary boundaries end just before the bodies of water so you can't build a water purifier.
-Sanctuary is still ruined about a couple of centuries later.
-Enemies are still bullet sponges.

So far, I'm loving it but as always, there are flaws. And Bethesda did take cues from New Vegas, particularly the companions leaving and making enemies with factions.

The lameness of boarded up buildings, AGAIN.

Junkyard buildings in settlements. Really? There are no good carpenters in the wasteland? And there are decent structures that could be repaired but you can't.

Good

Like the settlements, minus the junkyard buildings. Probably spent half my game time in this.

Modding weapons and armor, another favorite pastime.

VATS is a slowdown and not a dead stop like the previous games. Thought I would hate it, but its not bad. It means I have to stay motivated and get my targeted body parts in quickly. Enhancing game combat.
