What do you love most about Bethesda games?

Detail and scope of the world combined with very deep and detailed lore and background for me. The gameworld should feel like a living, breathing, natural and magical place that has existed for ages. :)

I personally find Elder Scrolls lore to be fairly average for a successful fantasy franchise. There's also a lot of potential for it to go wrong and become stupid in areas such as the Akaviri that have not yet been fleshed out and explored.

So I would have to say that the game worlds are the best bits. There are few that are so beautiful and detailed, and the fact that I can see it through first person is just the icing on the cake. Never has a game immersed me more successfully than Morrowind. Oblivion and Fallout 3 are phenomenal efforts as well (but just missing that benchmark :3)

The scope of the world really. I admire any game where it's fun to just wander around aimlessly and Oblivion/Morrowind fall into that category. I honestly think I've spent more time doing pointless things like trying to slip forks into people's pockets than doing anything remotely serious.

The scope of the world, as well as the open-ended-do-whatever-you-want feel of the game.

I personally went for the open world, but Lore would be next, and you who said " the Lore was fairly average" , I say bullhockey good sir, the lore in TES is the most inventive I have ever come across, Name me any other game with as much lore supporting it and I will eat my words, but until you do I will not believe it.

I cant choose just one but my 3 favorite things are the character creation, the huge and detailed world to journey through and discover all of the interesting locations of the world, and the "learn by doing" skill system instead of the usual xp based system; along with the freedom to level up whatever skills I want instead of just choosing a class and having only a few skills.

Detail and Scope of the world. Though, if I could pick two, I would definately pick cramming crap into my inventory as number 2 :P I can't even begin to imagine playing and not being able to sit there, with a full inventory and say to myself "Is this item really worth its weight? I could drop this, and pick up that, then I would lose 10 pounds..." lol. And then, if it comes down to it, I just use TGM to carry loot to a city... its not REALLY cheating, its just saving me the time of running back and forth :)

The open world design, although sometimes its irritating when I trigger a quest to wait for an NPC to path by a house and for some reason that NPC spawned on the OPPOSITE side of the game world. So I have to "wait" a few game weeks for the NPC to pass by the location.

I do say "spawned" because the darn NPC was nearby a game day before.

Definitely the detail and scope of the worlds. All the back story, the books in Elder Scrolls, the computer logs / e-mails / notes in Fallout and the attention to EVERY last little detail to make each world alive and breathing is just amazing.

Plus when you're playing a Bethesda game you know you're playing a Bethesda game. You can just feel it pulsing through you...lol I don't know how to explain it to people, but it's just there. Be it outrageous dialogues with NPCs or random things happening around you, it's just all very Bethesda.

The "because I can" gameplay. You can do almost what you want, when you want. Want to read a book, go shopping, explore, or save the world. You can.

I had a hard time deciding between Lore and Scope/Open World. I chose Lore, though, because it is the most interesting part of any Elder Scrolls game.
Sure, the open worlds are nice and big, but if there is nothing to fill those worlds with, it's kinda boring. I wouldn't care if you confined an entire game to one city, as long as it's interesting.

Gotta say its the exploration and forging your character's way into the world for me. Daggerfall was great in dungeon crawling, Morrowind's landscape was breathtaking and really took you out of that traditional fantasy feel, and Oblivion... Well, lets give credit where it is due. It was great in the exploration aspect. Just a thousand times better when modded with Unique Landscapes.

Im a level-designer at heart, and have always been impressed with the scope and scale of the world's that Bethesda creates.

Here's to hoping that Joel Burgess's team delivers another immersive, incredible world!
