What do you mean you don't like horses

Post » Fri Jul 01, 2011 1:12 pm

Who says they will svck in Skyrim?
I don't see the horses changing much in Skyrim. It's not like there is mounted combat so horses will just be a faster way to run around in the forest. So if they svcked in OB, then they will most likely svck in Skyrim.

Lol Melook asked a good question and hasn't got a decent answer like I understand you guys are answering the OP but the funniest part is y'all have a huge tendencie to say it svcks because of Oblivion but some how it makes y'all believe it hasn't been fixed in Skyrim which the main issue hasn't which is if you could fight on them they'd make even more sense but please acknowledge the fact that they have indeed improved since oblivion.

Well, we don't know that they have, therefore since there is no fact to acknowledge I can't acknowledge it. Aside from the fact that horses are still a filthy, vile species that are only kept around out of a misplaced sense of respect for the accomplishments of their ancestors, all we've seen is that the animations are better but that the biggest practical deficiency is still a problem.

Wow you obviously have played the game and know what you are talking about (end sarcasm)

All we know about horses are...
1) They are in the game.....
and......
2) There is no mounted combat

Yep that is a lot of info for the basis that they svck.

I would also like to say that Skyrim has a much different terrain then Oblivion, so they may prove to be useful.

"They svck" is the pre-existing basis. This is not the only thing where a lot of people are jumping to the conclusion of "like Oblivion unless otherwise noted." If horses were great in Oblivion we'd be assuming offhand they were great. But they weren't, they were awful. Since the only things specifically stated about horses you have very helpfully listed, we have no reason yet to think otherwise.

This is coming from me, as well. Look at all my other posts, I'm usually super-optimistic, and even I think horses will svck as bad as real-life horses.

Lol so the animations are better that's an improvement, I should of went into detail on that my fault. And detail on the horse has been improved. I mean people acting like they the same exact way as in oblivion, but how about this well just wait and see now I already know you can't fight on them so that's a given, also I'm really not saying theyll be useful really because I could hardly use them due to the fact I spent 5k on a black horse who can't fight back or maybe even couldn't regenerate health.

I also know were you coming from to a certain extent, and do agree with some of your points.

Obviously i havent played the game and neither has anyone else here. This isn't a thread on horses in skyrim as much as it is on horses in TES in general. All that has been said have been predictions. No one has clearly said that horses WILL svck in Skyrim. If you want a review on horses in Skyrim, you're not going to find it in here.

I play as a Barbarian/Hunter...and riding around on a horse doesn't fit the bill. It would have been nice to have horses be more than just transportation, but that could throw off the dynamic of combat in the game. It would have been nice, but so would spears and crossbows, not to digress of course.

Dude, you totally stole what I wanted to say.

But seriously, horses need saddle bags, or maybe even allow fast travel only from horse back
Otherwise horses will end up like in TES4- pointless and useless.

We are predicting what they will be like in Skyrim based on our observations and experiences with horses in Oblivion.

Ok if someone is afraid of horses, then they need to get their head checked. It's just the fact that horses were completely useless in Oblivion.

1. They don't run very fast
2. They can die
3. They cost too much money
4. Fast Travel
5. I have to get off my horse just to kill some wolf in the road

Honestly my character could run faster than horses...

Don't forget that you can beat on 'em and raise some skills. That makes them at least as useful as some other creatures. :toughninja:

If they will have horses in Skyrim, they must change a lot.

In Oblivion, they were more a handicap, than anything else, in my opinion.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, WAIT A TALOS-DAMN MINUTE!!!!!

Everybody's referencing Oblivion's lackluster horses as a way to not have them in Skyrim, yet spears like those from Morrowind are demanded under threat of the game being "dumbed-down" and lacking in comparison to the all-precious Morrowind? What should I make of this... hypocritical Oblivion-bashing? Mindless "criticism" based on little actual thought or anolysis? Something else I'm missing, here?

If you think horses are essential tell us why not just "Horses are COOL"

To be any value to me they need the following.

Better movement, not just graphically but physically not getting stuck on a little pebble or branch.
Usefulness, as stated by someone previously saddle bags to have a storage spot or needed for fast travel.
Cheap or at least somewhat easy to acquire not buy this horse for 1k bucks.
Horse overhaul in general. Need some type to improve them instead of one type being the most useful while the others are just there for looks.
Player not being able to move as fast as one continuously no matter the level to me thats fine to others want to be Hermes.

I am sure there are more that would make them useful but thats just the top 5 for me and by going off how Skyrim looks in the videos and what Beth is trying to achieve do not expect much on horses..

It's not really about horses in Oblivion. It's about horses in Beth games, in general, and the expectations for Skyrim.

But, for me at least, the fact of the matter is that horses in Oblivion svcked so hard that it put me off the whole idea of horses in TES in general. Because of the horses in Oblivion, I have no enthusiasm or good expectations for horses in Skyrim.

If they took horses from oblivion, made them a bit faster, put in better animations, and gave you mounted combat, I would be happy with it. I found horses in oblivion usefull for travelling quickly, when I cant fast-travel, or when I am using a character where I choose not to fast travel. My main issue with them, because I mainly played first-person, was combat. If, in skyrim, you can fight mounted, I will be happy. Now, it seems like some of you are saying you can, others saying you cant. Does anyone know FOR SURE, no guessing, if there will be mounted combat?

I don't get the desire for mounted combat. The only game that had enjoyable mounted combat that I've played is Ocarina of Time.

I'd much rather fight on my own two feet than on an unpredictable animal.

Have you played RDR?

I much prefer to level my character's athletics to run faster, than rely on a clunky horse animation to get around. The horses in Oblivion felt like a novelty, not a functioning part of the world. It took me out of the experience. Plus, there are many benefits for increasing athletics than just running fast.
