What do you name your character?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 6:32 pm

Female barbarian: Scry mystic
Female rogue: Luna Bloodless
Male Barbarian: Merick Skylaw
Male Mage: Rurick Skylaw
Male sword & board: Tirenth... he's an orc only needs a first name

I have been playing RPG's for years so i try to give realistic/fantasy names to my characters

I = HUGE nerd :celebration:

Breton Deathknight - Lars Kurzistein
Altmer Pure Mage - Sirrianna Gildengrove

I think those are pretty fitting.

Always names from Greek myth. Calliope, Muse of Epic Poetry, for my Mage/Archer. Set of free Destruction gear is named "Muse's Crown, Muse's Ring, etc."

On Mass Effect, my soldier renegade femshep is named Minerva Shephard, a biotic renegade femshep Hekate.

I name it based on the class type.

Since it is not ever mentioned in the game, I don't see much point in coming up with good detailed names.

My female nord Assassin is called Aesa which is a variation of ?sa. and since ?sa wasn't accepted by the game, probably because a letter that few other then scandinavia know's what is I went for Aesa which more or less is identical. The name is taken from old norse and means "to stir up, incite, stir up war". Which fit my character background story very nicely, she returned from Cyrodiil to join the stormcloaks due to her hatred against the Thalmor and how weak the empire is against them.

I gave my female nord a dragon name, probably not the most original but it seemed good at the time.
I called her Briidunnah: meaning "Beauty", "Grace", "Fury".

My female Redguard Archer Dragon Hunter is Hoolahoop

My Khajit sneak illusionist is Bikini

And my Nord Monk of Talos is Jitterbug

Clearly you're into roleplaying if you're making a Nord monk of Talos, doesn't it screw with that a bit when he's called Jitterbug?

"Messiah"
The savior of Skyrim and perhaps all of Tamriel.
But he is no sinless saint as the name might suggest.

Usually it's just a random name that pops into my head. I haven't been able to settle on a name for my character, which is why he's now on his third and most likely final name.

I voted lore, but I don't make a strictly lore-based name.

Gi'Anna, my female Khajiit, is a play on Gianna, a name I used for my female Breton in Oblivion. "Ji" in Khajiiti means "young one," which she is. Then I just changed the spelling to make it Gi'Anna.

Arkved, my male Altmer Mage, is named after the character Arkved who is encountered in Oblivion during Vaermina's Daedric Quest. Arkved's backstory is crafted around the Arkved in Oblivion, hence the same name.

My male Argonian Thief will be named Skeeme. It's a loose play on various Argonian names, and a play on the word "scheme." He is a thief, after all.

Ahem;

"He's not the messiah, he's just a very naughty boy".

I named my Imperial "Lacus Somniorum" which is a feature on the Moon that means "the Lake of Dreams".

It's also a heavy play on my real name.

I named my Nord: Wulfgard that means (guarded by the wulf, or loved by the wulf) :)

and my Imperial: Docere ... has something to do with glory, honor and strength

I m always basing on the race and that it fits more or less the gamelore.

I don't really roleplay, but my names always fit into the naming conventions of the game.

Examples:
  • Argenir, Nord
  • Ulfhrisk Meadsong, Nord (I swear, I came up with both of those before I played the game. Any resemblances to persons living or dead is purely coincidental.)
  • Qa'Darhji, Khajiit
  • Ogrash gro-Malak, Orc
  • Helas Hletheru, Dunmer
  • Ilindequil, High Elf
  • Faelwen, Wood Elf
  • Lazare Lachapelle, Breton
  • Aija, Argonian
  • Rennick, Redguard
  • Gaius Mercator, Imperial

Giving your own name or always the same name, makes it harder to identify the correct savegame if you have more than one character.

I try to give them a name that fits with the lore and race. I check the wiki page for the usual names of each race and I make one up that is close to that. My high elf is called Aramil, or something like that.

Sometimes I don't have time to think of names, the result is that my Orc is called "BAAAAARRRGH", which is pretty consistent with his personality...

My Imperial is named Richard. I played all the Fallout games (besides The Burned Game) but my first TES game was Oblivion. I made it to Level 3. So, assuming there would still be Medival England undertones, I named my character after Richard the Lionheart. Don't judge me. :P

My first character, an Imperial Spellsword is named Kaelev.

My second character, a nord 2h/light armor/bows ranger kinda guy is named Kvaldir Valkrigge

Also, if you're playing on the PC, you can use the showracemenu command in the console (~) to change your character's name and/or look/race.
