What do you name your character?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 11:52 pm

Imperial named Gaius.

Uses two handed great swords, heavy armor and his wits.

My method for choosing a name doesn't fit the poll options. Like Merari, I choose names that -- to me, anyway -- fit the race.

Sometimes I use Kal (as in Kal El) or Crun chygraveldrive, (hehehe) but in skyrim I'm using Groo as in groo the wanderer, so mine are usually comic book character names or just something mildly amusing I make up.

I like my characters to have meaning in their names. For example, my Nord Warrior is called "Ragnar?k", which in actual Norse mythology means somethin like "God's fate". Also, it's a pretty badass name, in my opinion. :toughninja:

Gorbeh, it means cat in farsi. Seems fitting as I am playing a Khajiit in the game. =)

Davos, from the Game of Thrones series (the BOOKS, mind you ;) )

Davos Seaworth was a smuggler, and as a Khajit rogue (stealth archer) it felt appropriate :foodndrink:

None of the answers you've listed in poll.
I choose a name that is strictly dictated by in-game naming traditions for each race.

I've got an Imperial legionary whose name is Tiber Aranis. (I had to delete my old Imperial, Lupus Mallecius due to a save-game bug)

I've also got an Altmer spellsword named Orweyen Varuniil, an Argonian rogue named Temeekteeutzee and a Dunmer named Moras Drednythe.

In Oblivion my main character was a Nord warrior named Baldur Isenheim, and in Morrowind it was a Breton pure mage called Maneld Vemont.

None of the above. I usually let my kids pick. For Skyrim, my wife picked. She just used my middle name, James. I know right, such a fantasy name.

Breton Mage: Nero
Orc Warrior: Loki
Bosmer Marksman: Farak Ozama
Dunmer Assasin: Prisoner (oops!)

I meant to call my Dunmer Assassin "Raziel" but it didn't save his name for some reason. I didn't notice until I was about 5 hours in... So I left it.

I name based on what sounds like it fits with the lore, and what I like.

I named my greatsword/sword and shield/heavy armor, typical nord female Brynhildr Shield-Maiden, after a character in Norse Mythology.
My thief/assassin is named Hel Dark-Heart.
Annnnnnnd my mage is Leiya.

My Elder Scrolls characters are all names that I came up with myself. I try to make them as authentic as possible. For Example:

Nord Warrior - Skjorn Ice-Heart

Reguard Assassin - Mardoc

Dark Elf Necromancer - Balan Dralas

Argonian Archer - Only-He-Speaks (Personally, I love the irony of this name)

My Dunmer vampire/assassin/thief in Oblivion was called Luinath (sounds evil and I stole it from a name in the game manual)
My Breton warrior (was meant to be a Battlemage but I never used much magic) was Brogan which sounds a little like my last name but more LOTR-esque.

My Nord archer/battlemage on Skyrim will be called Hjatir as Hjalti was the tame Talos was born with according to the lore. I thought it sounded gay so I stuck an 'r' on the end and it sounds better. I know that Dovahkiin isn't Talos but he's a Dragonborn at least.

Same for me.

My kahjiits are
M'aisha-Jo (M = apprentice, Jo = wizard), by coindicence there is an NPC named Ma'randru-Jo :hehe:.
Dar'viera (Dar = thief).

I try to pick a name that is lore friendly.

I've never used my name because I am not my game character.

I have several. Like the majority of posters, I draw on inspiration from the "Fantasy World", deities included. I like to stay in the ES ethos, and will modify names to fit. I also will design my name to fit the class.

Female Imperial Paladin - Aeos (Greek Goddess of the Dawn)
Female Nord Fighter/Thief - Bijunda (A quirked version of Bijork, my favorite Icelandic Vocalist)
Male Khajiit Thief - Kin'Mir (ES ethos)
Female Altmer Mage - Lelandra (X-men reference)
Male Dunmer Spell-Sword - Azrael (The bible's given name to the Angel of Death)
Female Orsimer Beserker - Rach-na-Kir (ES ethos)
Male Bosimer Ranger - Minsc (The greatest ranger of all time, nuts to that OPed Drizzit)

I can't get into the game if my character is named something modern, silly or a play on words. I use a small set of names I've come up with while playing various rpg and mmo games over the last several years.

I can't vote with these opinions. I always give specific name for my character. Something which fits and sounds right for the person I'm playing. It's connected to his race and can be connected to his origins and family if I'm writing longer history for him. I also have a few names which I like to use - they are mainly gathered from novellas I have written or from the character's I have played in previous games. Now I'm playing with Altmer called Cirvael. That name I picked from total conversion mod for Oblivion I was working with. There was not enough time to finish the mod before Skyrim's release so I abandoned it about six months ago. But I liked to keep the name I created for the province of high elves.

Gina is the name I use in every rpg but I put ES just because of elder scrolls obviously.
