What do you NOT want in Skyrim?

Post » Fri Aug 27, 2010 10:55 am

dice roll hit-and-miss.

I was playing Dragon Age, sidestepped an arrow, which prompted out-cornered an F1 car to strike me in the back. YEAH. :/

Level Scaling
Fast travel (Oblivion like)
Revealed undiscovered locations on map
Banks
Copy pasted cells
Short main quest
Karma or anything similar to fallout system
Lack of story behind the game
Small and disproportional map/world
Oblivion-like invertory/buy-sell interface
Monotony in landscapes

But the diffrence between blade and blunt has to do with weight... http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1151553-meet-the-devs-7/page__st__140 scroll down until you find the huge wall of text

:o I wish the devs would have answered that. Very interesting indeed. I always assumed the change was because they combined short blade and long blade. Long Blade was longsword and claymore. Shortblade was dagger and shortsword. With blunt you had one handed and two handed. Same with Axe. So in merging blade they got one, four weapon skill instead of two, two weapon skills. Same with merging blunt with axe.

Anyway on topic:

I don't want:
Bosmer to be a joke (one like the adoring fan/fargoth/gaenor is fine but the race as a whole should be awesome like they are in the lore)
Not so bestial beast races
Dragons being over done/and or Akavari invasion (hoping for a more political dark main quest this time around)
Super level scaling like Oblivion. Fallout 3 was a step back in the right direction
Vats or anything like it
Limbs exploding,
XP based leveling
Guns (last few were fallout examples)
A handful of voice actors. If we must have voice give me variety!
To be able to complete every quest line/ become head of every guild in theory at level one.
Zooming up on faces, this would be more acceptable if the faces were not so ugly (new engine has me hopeful)
Not having beards ( C'mon! Why was that not in Oblivion? I was so sad :( )
No reason to do to explore. i,e no hand placed loot or interesting things to discover outside of quests
Leveled quest rewards
Not being able to delete spells
Fast travel removed. Just also give us directions and more 'RP' ways to get around besides "hoofing it"
Non detailed/non zoomable map

That's all I have at the moment. Now that I've typed all that it seems like a awful lot, but what I loved about the previous games and want returned is a even greater list.

Level scaling

Empty game world outside dungeons and settlements

MMORPG type of quests with no multiple solutions

Poorly written dialogs

Mini games

Main quest about you being chosen one and saving the world from ancient evil.

I don't want:
-A lack of lore, OB was too focused on being pretty.
-OB Dunmer voices. It contradicts everything they are.
-Leveled items, at all. It restricts variety between people, I'm sick of seeing the same armor everywhere.
-The same voice actors for more than one race, there should be separate voices for all races.
-More factions. Oblivion lacked in factions when compared with the prequels.
-Armor and clothing taking the same space.

Nor Daggerfall randomly gerorated content or multiple endings.

I can understand the random content (although I think it could be used in a limited way), but whats wrong with multiple endings it allows you to choose sides and have it have a real effect in fact it allows all your actions to directly affect the outcome, I know in the series only one can be canonical but that does not diminish the enjoyment of what the multiple paths bring to the game, I don't understand why this would be bad thing.

On topic

Only fetch/escort/kill quests
Total abandonment of canon
More skill streamlining (combat/magic/other as the only three skills being the sarcastic example of this although I can see things like athletics and acrobatics being combined)
The Lore in the game having no tangible in game effect (would it not be cool to be able to discover things that can only be found from clues from the in game books?)
I can do everything and join everything with one character
Silly combat special moves (spinning around like ballet dancers ugh that was awful)
I guess those would be the main list

Why don't you guys want multiplayer? i mean just think of the extended game time multiplayer would give you.
like online arena, youd spend hours and hours trying to find better armor to try and be the best at online arena!
and itl make the game much more addictive, but they should cut out magical spells for that, last thing i want is some guy spamming the spell button :/

I don't think you understand:

A.) How hard it is to add a good multiplayer mode to a game.

B.) How unlike TES everything that you said would be.

There's tons of games that do this idea already, Bethesda's not a copycat.

I guess you have a point, but then again in oblivion me and my friends would always argue on who's character is better, what better way to find out then fighting in a arena.
Its not that hard to put a good multiplayer mode in TES, here ill do it now...what you do is you go to the arena master, click on "fight online" arena master says "are you sure you want to enter the online arena, only the strongest survive!" and you click " hell yeah" and you enter a online menu, click find ranked match, enter fight, kick ass..and you get ranks and a leaderboard to see who's the best!...well what do you know, i make a pritty good games designer :D

I would rather kill myself.

Don't go thinking you're the only one.

I would certainly laugh if there was a cliff racer easter egg somewhere. As in a single cliff racer that lives up in the mountains.

O.O

a Furry Cliff racer!!!! I honestly would LOVE to see that..... but please... only one.

My list:
Adoring Fan
mini games
Multiplayer
Vats
Level Scaling
Missing/Left Out Skills/Spells/Armors/Weapons
Having to use Mods to get a decent looking character... seriously go ask Bioware if you NEED to figure out how to make a face generator.
Oblivion races. Its partly the face generators fault but they just all looked alike in Oblivion. There might have been less choices in MW but at least they LOOKED like different races.
Not having tails or paws/webbed feet
Random Generated Terrain
Quest markers. But give better directions and landmarks than in morrowind.... or we'll all be searching around in the wrong valleys/caves again...

Starting in a prison and having the emperor dreaming of you... its getting old. I'm serious. Morrowind was borderline but was all to fit a prophecy right?.... In Oblivion.... starting in the prison was just plain creepy with the emperor happening to escape through YOUR cell or rather, A cell... i mean why wasnt the passage in the hall or under the stairs i dunno... what would he have done if the meanest strongest badest maniac murderer or Bronson!!!! had been in that cell...? and DREAMING of you. Dont twist your story just to fit in the prison part... please.... I mean, its fine if it works but....

I've not got the lofty levels of nostalgia about MW as some people, so I can't talk about cutting anything out.

Obviously, a big immersion breaking problem for me was the psychic guards. PLEASE, no more psychic guards.
I could go on and list everything wrong with OB, but I'd just be repeating everyone. As long as there's nothing in the game to ruin the immersion I'll be happy.

PS. Am I the only one who liked the OB minigames, like the speechcraft one or lockpicking one

I didn't hate the lockpicking one, but I was glad when I didn't have to deal with it anymore.

I'd love it if psychic guards were taken out. Or at the very least make news travel slower. I steal a spoon from Ald-ruhn, cast Recall, and the guards are after me in Balmora.

Absurd.

Ditto Oblivion, except instead of usin Mark and Recall you just use the Magical Teleportation of Fast Travel.

Well there is a main forum for what you want in Skyrim, so I figured, why not make a forum to express what you do not want to see in Skyrim.

My list:
Adoring Fan
Fargoth
Lock picking mini game (Oblivion style)
Speechcraft mini game (Oblivion style)
Multiplayer
Vats
Level Scaling
Not having beards
Not having spears

Any type of gun.

It kilt my muther.

I hope we get something like the Scroll of Icarian Flight again. Kind of a goofy little Easter Egg that is fun to mess about with. I loved that in Morrowind.

I don't want to go to Mehrune's Dagon's plane of Oblivion pretty much ever again. Too generic. Give me Hircine or something instead. Or Mephala.

thats a bad idea, we need more generic npcs. but lots of named ones still. generic npcs would make cities feel les empty- what is worse for you? generics or empty towns?

I'd rather have Oblivion-esque cities filled with named NPCs rather than huge ones filled with generic ones.

And on thats note

I wouldn't want
Generic NPCs (Bandits and highwaymen are okay, but not 'Bartender' 'Peasant' 'Noble')
Immediate Fast Travel to cities, I liked in SI, where you had the map markers for New Sheoth, but you couldn't Fast Travel there yet.
The wishes of people who say 'Make it mor liek Morrowind lolz!!1!one!' granted
Guns
Landscape that isn't similar to that of http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1145975-the-unique-landscapes-project/
An Oblivion-esque Speechcraft mini-game, I would still like one, but a better one than that
Nudity - won't happen anyway, stop asking.
No Essential NPCs, unless they aren't involved in a quest.
Map Markers that lead you directly to the point you're meant to be - general direction is okay.
It to be snowing all the time
No reference to the Oblivion Crisis, The Infernal City or http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1155361-next-novel/ (if it turns out to be true)
No Easter Eggs.

Sooo because a lot of people want great features back, you don't want them... because they also were in morrowind?...nice

Ironically enough he seems to think along similar lines to those Morrowind fans.

Generic NPCs (Bandits and highwaymen are okay, but not 'Bartender' 'Peasant' 'Noble')
Immediate Fast Travel to cities, I liked in SI, where you had the map markers for New Sheoth, but you couldn't Fast Travel there yet.

The only one of those that is decidedly Un-Morrowindy and quite Obliviony is

No Essential NPCs, unless they aren't involved in a quest.

Evidently he doesn't like consequences for killing NPCs, and he doesn't mind people being magically immortal.

As for me I don't want to see the continued casualization/dilution of the series as seen from Morrowind to Oblivion.
