What do YOU prefer? Third-person or first-person?

Post » Sat Jun 11, 2011 3:45 pm

I would say 90% first-person. Third-person is fun for admiring your character and sometimes for wandering around in the countryside and getting those nice panoramic views of the game world. I always found that searching for alchemy ingredients and all that stuff is a lot easier in first-person so it just makes sense to spend most of the game playing from that perspective.

First all the way, in Oblivion- opening the menu gave me a third-person look at my armor and such, so technically speaking I never actually used third in the game itself.

I'll be using 3rd person for running around. The way the player character's feet land firmly on the ground looks great, it's a step up. I'll see how it goes with combat and looting - whichever gets me killed the least is probs the one I'll use.

I voted only first person except when I want to inspect my guy, but I might actually try some combat just to see how it looks. In general though, definitely first person.

I like both, as long as they are well designed.

However if both viewpoints control well, I prefer a 3rd person view if the 1st person doesn't let me look down and see my feet. A lame preference/obsession of mine. It always irks me a bit when I look down and realise I'm just a floating pair of arms with a gun. Not a deal breaker, just a disappointing part of most FPS games for me.

Skyrim looks like it has a great 3rd person setup. So I will probably play around in both and see what I prefer. If I'm really lucky, maybe the 1st person view will have a visible body in it.

RTS == TPP
Shooters == FPP
RPGs == TPP

(And also prefer point & click navigation in RPGs)

Though I can play a FPP RPG if its a decent game.

First person combat, third person everything else. Now that the animations are amazing, I'll be doing much more third person.

I seem to be awful at combat in Elder Scrolls games in 3rd person (funny i don't have this problem in games that are strictly 3rd person) so for combat I switch otherwise i am in 3rd person most of the time

I switch between both semi regularly.
I play first person when cave/dungeon diving, and fighting.
I play third person when running around in a town or out in the open world.

most of my time in 1st person, IMO it makes it more realistic, but change to 3rd person to see my armor, and what i look like

I play in 3rd person almost exclusively. Unfortunately, there are just some tasks that are difficult to perform in 3rd person, so I kinda have to switch to 1st periodically.

Third person, always and forever. I was so happy when I saw that Archery in third person has a crosshair!
In Oblivion I did have to switch to first person to pick items up from time to time. But it looks like with Skyrim that may be much less of an issue.

First Person - with an occasional foray into third person to see how the armor looks for the most part.

Possibly the only times I ever used 3rd person was to check out my armour/clothes and weapon, ride my horse, and watch my guy's butt when he runs.

Always fight and travel in 1st, but I use the 3rd for equipment and screenhots.

1st persn is by far the best. It feels more personal because you are seeing it from behing your characters eyes. Third person is good only for inspecting armour, so the fact thay have improved it matters not much to me.

1st is the best for simulation, but I play both in the same playthrough. In towns and in combat I usually play 1st, but when travelling I use 3rd pretty often, to see more of the scenery at once.

3rd person, whats the point of buying a cool armor if you can't see it, plus there are milion fps games if i wana play first person.

Third for exploring and in town, first for dungeons. And no way will I wear robes or armour unless they look the part, vanity mode for me, and I will make no apologies for that.
