What you should do when you are stuck backtracking in the Ga

I thought I was seriously screwed when I got stuck this afternoon in the Gardens of Flesh and Bone. If you ignore the compass on the quest, and have to go back to get the membrane or the osseous marrow after you have been to the Corpusculum, you will always get stuck, because of a blocked root in the Caverns of Surruration, and because you cannot get up the big root in the Corpusculum (Gamespot: "You may want to thoroughly explore the northern area of the level before dropping down to grab the Dermis Membrane, as it will be impossible to return to that section of the level when you fall down.") You are locked in between both of these obstacles, and there seems to be no way to get past them.

Of course, you can unstuck your self on the PC with the console. But as an Xbox or PS3 player who doesn't creates a hell lot of saves? Ouch.

I found a way for those console players to continue playing. Save after every step!

  • Despite what Gamespot says, it is not impossible to get up the big root walkover (above the membrane plants). Go to the little dead-end area where the membrane plants are located in the Corpusculum.
  • You will need some acrobatics. I had 31 skill when I jumped my way out, so let's say that that's the minimum. Nothing fancy.
  • Drop all of your gear. I got down to 20/506 encumburance when I dropped all my heavy stuff. That includes that beloved Dawnfang/Duskfang... Drop it as close to the 1) east entrance AND 2) as close as possible to the root above, without putting it beneath it. You will be using telekinesis from the root, so make sure its in line of sight.
  • Look at the membrane plants while standing beneath the big root, and note that there is a root on your left that goes upwards.
  • Jump on that root, and then jump on the root that's next to it (to the left when you are facing the the wall)
  • Note that there is a third root to your left, above the east entrance to the circular room. This jump is tricky, and it will require a lot of trial and error. But with the conditions I described, it is possible to get on that root. Use telekinesis to get some armor back.
  • Turn to your right and jump on the small cove beneath the ceiling.
  • Jump three more times towards the big root. This part is easy, once you get beneath the ceiling it a piece of cake.
  • Use Telekinesis to get your armor back. I only had a minor spell, so I could only get some items back. I left the dungeon with only my sword, my shield, and my helmet.
  • Cheer! You are save now. Just don't fall off the root!

I hope this will help future players who are stuck.

Really? I never knew that. I've completed the SI main quest with something like six characters since 2007. Guess I'm lucky. I always go in pretty much the same order.
