So... what do you think about Redguards?

Post » Thu Mar 20, 2014 12:03 am

Eh I know, I never picked the race for bonuses of based a class solely on my race. But I know some people like to know these things.

I am on PC but I played Skyrim in it's vanilla state since it's release and started using aeshetic mods less than a year ago. Of course, I can't be certain about all, but for the starters, warpaint definitely isn't vanilla, I'm 99% it's http://static-1.nexusmods.com/15/mods/110/images/4489-4-1324734396.jpg. But to me skin, lips, eyebrows and eyes totally don't look vanilla either. There's certainly a chance that I'm horribly wrong as I play Skyrin on lower resolution and don't really know how far can max resolution take things, but I honestly doubt it can get this far.

EDIT: scratch the "99% it's weathered warpaints", there are actually two more mods on Nexus that make the warpaints like that. So it could be any of those 3. :P

Yeeeaaah... for anyone who plays it vanilla that's gonna be a pretty bad example of "the most attractive".

Most of them were probably Redguards themselves.

Then again the environment of Hammerfell itself probably did a lot of the vehking too. I mean it was the ancient Altmer themselves who named the place Hegathe which means "Deathlands"

Redguards are great. Easily my favourite human race in TES.

Go for it. Redguards have a very interesting culture and history. They're good for multiple play-styles as well.

Doesn't that kinda prove my point? Who else in the Hammerfell legions would be so anxious to stay behind, defy official orders and lose their jobs to protect the province besides Redguards and maybe a few Orsimer.

and I'm not sure if I am the only one who doesn't get the hype about Saadia. I mean if we are talking about Redguard women, Salma is way better looking than her in my opinion.

I never really liked them until Skyrim gave them better stats.

I've considered making a Redguard swordsman / archer who uses alteration for armor. A light footed desert warrior.

I like Redguards, they seem pretty similar to Nords in their warrior-culture, at least as much as I know.

I think Redguards are great, and very badass, but I think people try to overstate how badass they actually are. They pulled off what they did in Hammerfell from a lot of legion assistance, both directly and indirectly after the others took care of the Thalmor force in Cyrodiil.

There's also the people claiming they're the best warriors, when "most talented" doesn't mean they make the best warriors. It also says after all that they're better at being scouts and such than actual soldiers. And the talk of them taking hammerfell from the mer and men of Tamriel when Hammerfell wasn't greatly populated in the first place and the people there were already fighting for the land they did have. And the Redguards came out of nowhere with their ships after their continent sank... with their full warrior caste.

Basically, I like them, but people are a bit too heavy handed with the compliments. I personally think it's because who they resemble in real life, and I say that as someone who is part african american.

A race that has shown there is still a chance at perseverance in situations for which other races could not see.

Not the other races. Just Mede and/or the council.

Some interesting figures who were Redguards below, all my favorite Redguards. Believe it or not, they're a fairly versatile culture. I'm playing one right now and it's a blast to RP him.

No, as any Legionary soldier of any race being stationed in a province can grow attached to it & maybe start or perhaps already have relationships/family there. It would be naive to think these solider's are just defending Hammerfell. But in the greater scheme of things helping keep the Dominion forces pinned there.

I actually agree. I don't think all the legion stationed there were redguards. The general who left them behind wasn't. Though it could be argued he did so because if he didn't, then his men would mutiny.

Still, them all being Redguards doesn't seem likely to me. Never even heard of all redguard legions.

A lot of them do apparently. Maybe interbreeding with Nedes

They were outnumbered and fighting a losing battle there with the exception of the Forebears who broke the siege of Hegathe. I didn't say all the soldiers were Redguards. I'm saying most of those who were left behind would've likely been, besides that I can only think of Orcs.

I don't really think there even is a much of a legion presence in Hammerfell at all. We know the Crowns don't take kindly to them and given that they seem to be the ones ruling most of the borders between Hammerfell and Cyrodill in the last couple centuries I think that would make it pretty difficult for the legion to operate.

They're the darker-skinned humans.

Thas it. :T

Like, they prolly have the best lore out of all the humans but to me they're just 'meh.' And I hope to keep it that way tbqh.

You haven't been on here much then. It's usually the Nords, Altmer and Imperials that get all the dislikes and hate, though at the same time the Nords also get the most love too.

It's not as one sided as you make it sound, because various events had a bearing on the overall outcome.

Breaking the siege had no major effect on the Dominion army in Hammerfell at the time. it just lead to the reconciliation of the Forebear & Crowns factions. The Legion didn't lose the upcoming battle with the Dominion army, it was an inconclusive fight that the Legion withdrew from. It was these 'invalids' from that Legion that made up the core of the Alik'r force, so that's Forebear/Crowns/Invalids that pushed the Dominion out of Hammerfell.

Perhaps they may have been, perhaps they weren't. Still doesn't take away the fact that they are/were Legion soldiers & it was a good tactical decision from the Empire. Only reason i can think of to argue it otherwise, is to try & take credit away from the Empire.
