What do you Think about a tabletop TES?

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 12:08 pm

One of my friends and i were talking and we thought we had a good idea. A tabletop war game (as refrence think Warhammer) though by no means do i mean that i want Bethesda to rip off Games-Workshop. I think that it would be fun if the diffrent races and nations (or empires) had armies in which you could make large scale battles that would lag the game or are impractical for it to be ingame . What do you think?

For a moment I thought you meant as in a tabletop rpg like Dungeons & Dragons (which I think some people here might be better off playing). Might work.

A D&D style ES games seems like it would be going a bit backwards. ES has certain
limitations since its a videogame, so you wouldn't want to base a game with no limits
on it. Unless you just want to adapt the races in place of D&D ones and make Tamriel
the campaign setting - that would be pretty cool.

Are you talking about games like Stronghold and Age of Empire? Cause if you are then I'll get into that. Specially if Bethesda allows you to control all sort of stuff and maybe make the game go thru a lot of major events from maybe 3E to 4E and maybe play special 'what if's play-thrus that show what would happen if the bad guy actually won for once..

Actually... I would love to play as the Undead in this sort of game! A Lich, or Ancient Lich, will most likely be the leader of that army.

We owe the entire lore of TES and particularly Arena to http://tamrielchronicles.com/the-elder-scrolls/ set in the land of Tamriel.

It's already a great setting for a pen and paper game. No need to sit around and wait for someone to publish it, you can easily adapt something like the AD&D, GURPS or OSRIC ruleset for a Tamriel campaign with TES races and magic, etc.

D&D was only part of the idea. What about a more Warhammer like game?

It could work I suppose. Are you proposing that Games Workshop makes this or some other company?

Wow! I did not know that.

I think it would be cool if there were a pen & paper version of TES. The thing is, those types of games take massive amounts of time; a single battle which would take 5 minutes in a vid-game might take over an hour rolling dice. If they did make a pen & paper TES, I would eventually buy it, but I wouldn't have time to game this way. there are times I don't even have enough time for TES in vid-game form!

That all depend on whether you want it to cost several body parts for the "better" figures, and don't mind having "High Ordinators" written out of the next edition and other nonsense.
