What Do You Think About Vehicles In The Games To Come.

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 5:17 pm

It looks designed to be like a dragster or a chariot. So it wasn't meant to turn by the looks of it. It would be for breaking through enemy lines.
Yeah I've seen that concept art before, I never understood it either ! Though I'm pretty poorly educated on cars/motor vehicles I must admit :/

It's just a poorly designed dragster, if it is that. For one, where would be the breaking system for it? Doesn't look to have one, unless they use the gas as a breaking system i.e. fill the tank up so it has just enough to go through the lines, then it'll loose energy once it's through or whatever.

I think the artists was just poor at understanding vehicle mechanics.

Few of the cars I've seen has been anywhere near working condition so you don't have to worry about Fallout becoming GTA. Besides I don't see why we should be able to scavenge for a vehicle. Let's just have it like in FO2.

You are correct that a bike would handle the terrain better but there are also armor and trunk space to consider, which the car offers. And the fact that they are all over the place makes it much easier to find the much needed spare parts.

You have to take into consideration, the years between FO2 and FO4, and how that would effect the cars and motorcycles. Having a vehicle, doesn't mean you'd need to use it as a place of storage, what if it got blown up? All that stuff would be lost, and I doubt many people would be using their car to stash stuff, if it had the likelihood of catching fire and turning into a mini-mushroom cloud. And again, just because there's a lot of them out there (which there shouldn't be, that was Beth's doing), doesn't mean you're going to be able to find cars with serviceable parts to take off, and put them all together for one workable car. Years and elements would play a big part.

A motorcycle would be more simpler to have, because it would realistically (and in the game world), be easier to take care of and work on, than a fission powered car. You have access to the engine right there, and if you're set on having some sort of storage space, you could just have it so everything sits on the back.

Well it was only concept art. Fallout 3 had a concept for this ==> http://www.project610.com/files/Giant%20Mole%20Rat.jpg

Van Buren was to have a number of vehicles, so that would mean there would be a numer of people out there that knows about them. Fallout 2 had people that knew about them. Same with Tactics.

As for the breaking system. I guess there could have been some type of kill switch, attached to the reins.

How about a makeshift tank. I'm imagining some kind of metal plating that deflects small arms arms fire, and is put around 4 Brahmin, the shell also has some wheels to roll along on while the Brahmin are directed normally. Then maybe two people could sit inside and some on the outside. No cannon either. Also it wouldn't be ridable.

http://savagebeatings.deviantart.com/gallery/34104749#/d4hr2ew, but also check the links in the image description. Armored WW1/2 cars/trucks is a big inspiration for me for vehicles that would have been constructed post-war
Otherwise, we could ride animals like http://savagebeatings.deviantart.com/gallery/34104749#/d4gyu9u or http://savagebeatings.deviantart.com/gallery/34104752#/d4b7jwp! (linked again)

I can see this being like a low-speed quad or dirt bike thing? That could be something knew to throw caps into... but IMO it wouldnt feel too much like Fallout and I probably wouldn't get around to owning my own.

Sure, but riding around on a giant mole rat would have made more sense than that chariot. All I'm saying, is whoever drew that chariot design, didn't have much vehicle knowledge. Others might have, but I doubt that that chariot would have made it into Van Buren (if it had been made,) because of it's bad design.

Also, I forgot to mention, but it's hard to tell if the Legionary is standing in the trunk, or if the trunk has been cut off? The rear lights don't make sense where they are either.

What about Brahmin rider? Slow I know, but still, would it be any different than a Mole Rat? :)

If they make the map around the size of Skyrim, I would be all for it.

Again big, very big map, but it seems stupid i cant get a few brahman and hook em up to a truck, or trash other vehicles for parts to get one working, but i much prefer walking and finding places probably one of the things i enjoy, but id like the option to make a choice.

The cars are meant to be for quick transport, not mini caravans, and since you ain't going to the Supa Dupa Mart for shopping you don't need the trunk space, nor do you need the extra 5 seats when you can only take 1/2 companion/s. Plus if some raider was to miss me more than few times and hit the car it'll burst into flames and nuke all my gear in the trunk, so if thats feature for cars (should be) then they'd be fine(-ish) but it'll piss so many people off that they won't do it.

As I said before, vehicles in Fallout would not feel like Fallout to me, more like Rage. I highly disliked Rage. Even if there are vehicles, I will not use them, and if Im forced to for a quest, I will be angry.

Well... the mole rat you ride on is huge! :) So there's that, and they're probably faster too?
I'd say it would be nice if the caravans in Fallout 4 not only would be bigger but actually being carts drawn by brahmin! And sure, someone could ride a brahmin too, a true cowboy, but it seems like it would be uncomfortable and btw, how do you steer a brahmin? They've got two heads!

You dangle mutfruit on a string ahead of them, so they just follow the graqe/orange/apple/pear/peach/whatever other fruit hybrid.

All hail the mutfruit, solution to the transportation problems of the wastes!

I hope not. As said before, it wouldn't feel like Fallout and may be as horrible as Rage .

It wouldn't feel like fallout because you may or may not ride a beat up car/bike around to travel faster? I'd imagine that you wouldn't even be forced to use a vehicle, or does the presence of such a thing ruin the whole game?

Having a car didn't ruin Fallout 2. Then again that game uses a map node system *hint hint*

I think it'd be more logical to just have carts and things like that, with Brahmin or whatever, pulling them as a means of transportation. Cars realistically, would be too run down and things like that to find any reasonably kept parts to put all together.

I agree, and all undrivable too. And maybe some innovation like my fun little idea, where they basically put a sheet of metal around some brahmin and stick some people on it.

Future Fallout games should not have any rideable vehicles. It would ruin the game, no doubt. Walk and find cool stuff. It's how you play.

I like the Alien Blaster, it's a fun weapon. I like killing little green guys, it's fun. Having atleast a few little green guys in Fallout is a must for me, they're fun. The Canon isn't built in stone, and the whole [censored] world of fallout isn't fully written, and for you canon lovers who think it is, think again. There can be a ton of new [censored] showing up in Fallout, why not have Aliens abducting people and doing this and that. It would be grand fun, and on another note go ahead and troll Skyrim, that game trolls itself already.
I like driving vehciles, it's fun! Vehicles need to be in the game because their fun!

And I respect your opinion, you can enjoy a good ride, I'll enjoy my Alien Blaster. I just wont touch the vehicles and you dont need to touch my Blaster. Deal?

No, I was just making a point. I actually don't want drivable vehicles, but I would like to see some kind of makeshift transportation for NPC use, unless its fast travel. Also the alien blaster can stay, cause I enjoy it (until I get scarred I will run out of ammo), aliens just shouldn't be flying down in their UFO's and start slaying the local populance.

If aliens in UFOs start flying down, I want 2nd gen supermutants to shoot them down with rocket launchers, and make necklaces out of their bodies, and hats out of parts of their ships.

If the aliens can't deflect measly rockets, then they are in trouble.
