What do you think could make new vegas better

Post » Sun Nov 15, 2009 2:53 pm

A mother f***** better game engine! Thats what i say. And all so a random enemy's wandering around.

This.

Some nicer guns and harder enemies. The guns svck so moderate enemies make sense.

I have recently experienced just a little too much of this "invisible wall" crap in New Vegas. I don't know if it's walls or the navmesh, but I am really sick and tired of not being able to get over a bit of mountainous terrain like I could in FO3.

One excellent example is with the [censored] path behind the Great Khans that leads to the Cazador nest where you collect their eggs. I had to zig-zag and run around for about ten [censored] minutes before I could get up that thing. And it was just a ramp. Just a [censored] ramp! OF EARTH!!! And I couldn't [censored] climb it!!!

Enough raging. Breathe. In for five seconds. Hold for three. Out for five. Woo-sah. Calmness fills me now.

One more thing that could make New Vegas better for me is more reliable access to weapon mods. Which I've said before. A few times. In different threads. I'm sorry (actually, I'm not sorry, but whatever) but it just doesn't make a [censored] lick of sense that I go to the Gun Runners and they don't have a Hunting Rifle Scope. I shouldn't have to force their inventory to cycle. Gun Runners should ALWAYS have all Gun mods. (and, incidentally, BoS should ALWAYS have all the Energy Weapon mods).

I also happen to agree that random encounters would be great BUT only if the level cap gets removed. With random encounters I'd probably hit level 35 before I was even done with a quarter of the game's quests. See, when I get XP, I want it to COUNT (meaning, I want to eventually get a level from my XP gain) not fall off into a void; random encounters would result in a lot of XP eventually counting for nothing (falling into the XP void) because I'd have hit the level cap long before I could complete all the quests I like to complete.

I despair because we shall see none of these things.

  • Random encounters (especially after fast travel, like what Beth did for FO3)
  • More Wild Wasteland stuff
  • More Legion outposts and quests, instead of 2 quests with 1 of them being a repeated turn in quest (the stuff in the Fort doesn't count in my book). If anything, the Legion is almost useless as a "major" faction, and feels smaller than a bunch of "minor" factions in the game. If anyone needs an overhaul, it's the Legion.
  • More weapon mods
  • A larger game world
  • More traits

I made a freakin' whole list, but my computer lagged up and didn't post my post. (Freaking connection)
Anyways, my list was deleted, but here are some stuff on the list:
- Un-Nerfed Fat Man
- Un-Nerfed Sniper Rifle
- More enemies roaming the map
- More enemies as a threat at level 34
- Un-Nerfed High Fire Rate Weapons
- Better Energy Weapons
- More common normal explosive ammo
- More Super Mutants
- Bigger Map
- More Legion areas and people around the map.
That was not the whole list, but it was some of it.
(I gotta copy all of my posts)

you're right on the money ice, i second this post, the game is like a walk in the park once you're level 15 or 20 or so.. so more/better quality enemies to fight for sure, patrols, random encounters, lots more legion in various places etc.

Yeah, it needs more things to shoot at. A bit schizophrenic game; softcoe gun porm, but so very little targets

i agree with you tojka, not nearly enough things to fight and shoot at.

THE INVISIBLE WALLS MUST DIE. For me they add so much unecessary travel time. Also I wish melee weapons degraded slower.

its not like the originals, where ammo was rare and enemies were prone to kill you before you could punch some holes in them.

Dead Space 2 however, is a Surivival Horror game, and not a CRPG.
Haven't played 2 yet, loved 1, but I can safely say, that I never wanted to see the game mechanics of a 15h shooter game transported to a game like Fallout with a potential playtime of 100h+ with character progression and all that stuff.
A game like Fallout is not about difficult and challenging combat.
For that, you have ample of other games, and if has to be in a Fallout game, then stick to corresponding mods.

bethesda games are very combat oriented, that includes ES and FO, so a game like new vegas doesn't have the quality or quantity of combat a bethesda fan is expecting. not only that, bethesda put lots of random events in their games and makes dynamic worlds with lots going on. new vegas doesn't have any random encounters or events and not a lot in way of exploration either. also combat is lacking in new vegas as well as good locations to fight enemies, no dungeons, the outdoor locations offer very little in way of good places to hide and stalk enemies. you're pretty much out in the open wherever you are.

Sorry for my bad english.

Nothing could make new vegas better, this game ist totally broken(thanx, Obsidian ;-). I have tried for months with 20GB of mod data: no chance. I love Fallout 3, but i hate New Vegas and nothing can fix that. The missions are bad, the howdy setting is bad, radio is bad, the raider voices are bad, the legion is a joke, there is no loot, no life and no love, bugs over an over, bad performance.... I copied a lot of things from DC to Vegas, but when i realized, that i have to copy complete Fallout 3 GOTY and all mods to the Mojave Desert to have a good Fallout New Vegas i stopped to play this poor little game. Actually, i'm grabbing all useful data from New Vegas, the unarmed animations for the brass knuckles, and the meshes and textures for the mantis and ballistic fist, because this is little work, compared to the giant work to make New Vegas at least playable.

An actually satisfying feeling Vegas Strip. C'mon people, for all the excitement built around it, the place is pretty dull. Other than that I am more than happy with the game.

The one thing I think that would make it better is the lack of thought to those kids you see playing with the C-Finder in Freeside. First play through I didnt turn the orbital platform on so they played along like nothing. But I was disappointed when I turned it on and arrived in Vegas to see him pulling the trigger making shooting noises and nothing.

I would have loved to see him vaporize himself and the girl with that "toy" that I just activated as a weapon. Sure would save me from having to barter with the stupid kid.

Would like to see a form of vehicle, nothing too flashy.

Heck I'd take a mole rat to ride around on even if it didnt increase my speed. I mean come on, how funny would that be?

Personally I think the game would be better if there was a way to finish it without committing an act of unjustifiable, cold blooded murder. That sorta svcked.

Many many things. But here are the top ten things I wanted in New Vegas.

10. Some sort of transportation other than walking or fast travel like a coach or riding a mole rat or something.
9. More arenas but with people instead of animals.
8. Ability to help the Followers more...and get it on with Julie :)
7. Make the Vegas strip more grand
6. Yes Man ending more satisfying instead of "assertive"
5. Romance or something more satisfying for the Lady Killer/Black Widow perk
4. Ability to actually work with Benny and betray him at the end :D
3. Beta testing the game properly
2. Sleek, cute, and awesome Uzi
1. No definitive ending -_-, I can't wait until the mod comes out where it extends the story.

A few things:

1. Keep the definitve ending, I like to see the consequences of my choices and actions, thank you very much.
2. I'd like a map node system, but it is a little late for that.
3. I'd like Bethesda to do their job as Quality Assurance, but it is a little late for that.
4. I'd like even more steps to return to the roots of Fallout, more RPG and less TES.

but you don't get to see the consequences of your actions...you mean the 3 minute slide show? HMMM slideshows aren't all that great to me but the game needs to end anyway cause its pretty boring overall once the quests are done, not one random encounter/event on the entire map and the static spawns, no factions really patrol anywhere, hardly any supermutants to kill, no dungeons to cruise around in, very lackluster game and the main story is only average and the quests play out pretty much the same whoever's side you're on, it doesn't really change much. so that whole part is overated.

I suggest to enter new fraction. Fraction of the people aspiring immortality and technologies (branch from Broken Steel is possible). They could transform one step at a time the body in the robot (except for a brain). Thus in game there can be a new race - race of cybernetic organisms.
Meal and water it would be necessary for them very little, but it is necessary a lot of energy (Battery and other fuel elements) and spare parts for a body. They would not be afraid of radiation. Also could modify the body in conformity to carried out problems, and easier to improve the characteristics of own organisms.
Their objective can become power stations and dumps in area of New Vegas.

Completely agree with westoftherockies. I find that this game cannot hold me after I have completed the quests. Casinos kick you out, no random encounters and an unpopulated world. I do agree that the game has better writing than Bethesda's Fallout 3 but as for roleplaying, exploring and just general having fun (mines and behemoths anyone?) then I have to go with Fallout 3.

Vegas lacks longevity (for a western RPG) and exploration. I appreciate what they have added to the game such as stopping you from being a perfect jack of all trades, adding a hardcoe mode, true iron sights and a faction system but I just feel like I'm playing a rushed game. Not Obsidians fault of course but you can tell that a lot more time went into Fallout 3. I'm not trying to turn this into a which game is better thread as each has their own merits, it is just the most comparable game as they are the same genre, have the same subject and run on the same engine.

NV is a great game but it seemed like it wasn't sure whether it was an open world or linear game. I find myself going through the same order of quests for the majority of the game as we are forced down a certain path. This makes it incredibly repetitive for people creating new characters or trialing out play styles, this is made worse by the absence of random encounters.

Partly what made Morrowind and Oblivion so great (only two elder scrolls I have played), you truly feel like you are a person with the world at your fingertips. FO3 slightly diminishes the roleplaying by telling you what age you are and your origins but you still get the same feeling leaving the vault. In NV I feel confined and I end up getting pushed down a certain path, ME2 has a similar effect but it doesn't give the illusion of an open world, it embraces linear style and still manages to have choice.

TLDR: In answer to the topic question, what would make the game better is if the studio had more time and money. Also to build the game from the foundations up in order to create the game they wanted and not something recycled, not just because the engine is ageing but because they don't have to conform to the style of FO3.
