what do you think of Infinity Wards lawsuit against Activisi

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:19 am

For those of you that dont know:

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2010/04/activision-infinity-ward-employees-lawsuit-call-duty-modern-warfare.html

In short words, developers (IW) are suing activision for unpaid royalties, and activision obviously does not wanna show them the money! I think the lawsuit will actually go to court sometime on May this year.

Personally I really hope the developers get the money. Publishers dont deserve no where near as much as the developers, IMO. What do you guys think?

yeah well i wasnt part of that conversation. and even if it is old news, we are only a month away from a moment that could drastically change the future of CoD franchise, so I want to have this conversation.

Please tell me there is a future without Call of Duty.

I think that's very likely. Infinity Ward is out of the picture and Sledgehammer Games... well... they were created to work on "more action oriented call of duty games", do I need to say anything else?

so I think it's safe to say that cod is screwed

Old. And, in my mind, i hope it kills off CoD.

I hate CoD, it's the only game that gets me angry.

Given Activision's track record on their previous "golden goose" franchises, it's a pretty safe bet that it's only a matter of time before CoD loses its momentum.

I seem to be the minority when I say I hope the Call of Duty series keeps going. I'm sure a lot of you don't enjoy the games, as I an see from this thread, but I'm a huge fan. Not because of the multi-player (Although I will play it from time to time. Haven't played it much since the first Modern Warfare, which was an amazing multi-player) but because I enjoy the single-player. I love the pointless violence with outrageous storylines. It's good fun to shoot up the baddies and flex my giant American (Or British, as the case may be.) muscles and yell 'PHWOOOSH!'.

Regardless of how the case goes, I'd be a very sad panda if I didn't get to play another Call of Duty game. :sadvaultboy:

Infinity Ward still exists and they are currently working on MW3 with help from Treyarch and Sledgehammer. This lawsuit will do nothing to the CoD franchise and is purely for unpaid royalties.

In total, Activision has 5 of its development studios working solely on Call of Duty games. CoD isn't going anywhere.

The 'Infinity Ward' that is working on MW3 is not Infinity Ward, not really.

Most of the original developers have left the company.

I know. I keep sending them emails to get off their asses and hire a web designer. I'm tired of looking at a blank page with an email address.

But of course its with EA. We can expect cut corners and pointless DLC.

Not to mention a "special code" that comes with the game that you'll need to unlock full multiplayer. So if you have more than one person in the home playing their games you're S.O.L. and will have to purchase more codes.

The sales of the past few games (especially MW2 and Blops) have done nothing but go up and boost the series' popularity. Even without IW (in theory), this series doesn't look to be going anywhere, anytime soon. :yucky:

Actually I kinda like the CoD. For fast paced gunning its a good game. What bothers me about it is not the game but the way it is dealt with. Take CoD:BO for example. First they said they werent gonna charge for $15 for dlc likke mw2 did. and yet they did it. then they frikin give exclusive rights to microsoft for extra $$ and screw over ps3 players by making them wait a whole month longer. These are the things that bother me. And to add insult to injury, even after they did these stunts they still broke the record sales.

Infinity Ward still exists and they are currently working on MW3 with help from Treyarch and Sledgehammer. This lawsuit will do nothing to the CoD franchise and is purely for unpaid royalties.

A lot of people from IW left due to the lawsuit. But I dnt think that will be enough to destroy CoD franchise because lets face it, people dont buy CoD depending on who developed it. They just buy it because it says "Call of Duty" in the cover. Hell, look at black ops. IW didnt make the game and look at its crazy success. And im sure that when the time is right, Activision will create a different branch of call of duty games but still have CoD on it

I give it three more years.

Unfortunately I wound up buying Black Ops because it looked okay and I KNEW that would be the only thing my friends would ever want to play...

...And now, what? Four months after release? My disc becomes unreadable even though it's not scratched at all. Screw you Activision.

I seriously am beginning to question the intelligence of the human race for buying the same garbage copy and pasted into a different setting year after year. If they would actually change the series so that each studio developed a different style of game then it would be fine, but the way it is now? No. Never again Activision.

You do realize for buying the game you are part of the "problem", right? Activision doesn't care if you disapprove of the game, they care if you buy it. You bought it, they will keep pumping out games till that stops.

As for my opinion on the matter I don't care. If the game looks fun I'll buy it, otherwise I won't. The series has gone downhill since COD4.

Not the whole human race, just people like you who bought it despite knowing it would svck.

I wouldn't mind seeing the CoD series end. I am not ashamed to admit that I am a big fan of the series. At the same time I don't like a series that does nothing new be hailed as the king of shooters every year. I would feel bad for the developers such as Raven who are feeling that them being placed for the series would be their big break. Oh well. I am happy the IW guys are doing their own things. Can't wait to see what they are up to.

OMG if only that were true. unfortunately the era for rpgs has ended. I think it is a no debate that PS2 was the ultimate console for rpgs. the crap they are coming out with now can hardly be passed as rpg

The era of RPG's was the 90's which truly began with the timeless classic Chrono Trigger. The RPG era ended with Halo.

I am willing to bet that Skyrim might kickstart a new era. I was hoping that Dragon Age would do it, but not now.

But honestly I think the next era will be the MMO era. WoW has dominated the MMO genre for years now. With the likes of Guild Wars 2 and other promising titles, the MMO era seems to truly be upon us. Complete with microtransactions and rampant fanboyism.

The only reason I want to see another Modern Warfare game is to end the story, because MW2 basically ends with the major character getting wounded and him being rescued by a guy saying, "I KNOW A PLACE....*bum bum bummmmmm...*" I just want to know what happens.
