What do you think of Skyrim without any mods?

it's like the only whiskey you could ever drink was Jamesons. You were happy. You had a good drop, instead of some piss-weak mass produced lageryellow alcoholic drink. Then someone introduces you to the proper drop. Tullamore, Redbriast, Powers, Bushmills 16 year old. Heaven in a shudder. Trouble is, you were quite happy anyway with your already superior drink, and while there are vastly superior flavours out there, you never wanted it turned into a really good gin.

Xbox here. I don't have a choice. Lol. Having fun still, but admittedly jealous.

I'm on console, and I love it. Would enjoy some mods, though.

Love it. Still should've been released with a no steam option. Having seen a few mods for the PC version I bought for my niece, I'm still upset they didn't. With the ASIS encounter zones mod enabled, I remember taking my level 43 dark elf out of Whiterun and around the north side. First thing I noticed was a massive fight between some bandits and giants and mammoths. Then TWO dragons show up! It was awesome. Classes readded, start another life, dual-wield blocking, I miss them all in my copy. But the game is still more than capable of sating my almost clinical case of restartitis. I think it is just fine with the official plug-ins, all of which I had as soon as possible being on XBox.

TBH, I would've put it down long ago and never picked it back up. Skyrim's still a good game, but there's just too much that drives me insane about it. Mods help ease that pain somewhat, take that away, and I've got nothing left.

I hate mods, especially ENB. all they do is ruin your game. i've seen people inject mods to their game to the point where you wont even recognize that this is Skyrim. anything that isn't official isn't worth my time.
Whether something "ruins a game" is totally subjective. Mods can add everything from tiny touches to massive differences depending on your personal preference. I tend to go for a less is more approach, with only a dozen or so small visual improvements, but others go for huge overalls and hundreds of mods that drastically alter the game, and that's entirely up to them.

The beauty is that modding makes your game what you want it to be.

Yeah, because http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=132175258 looks so much better than http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=130610795 :hehe:

I can enjoy Skyrim just fine without mods. I need to use mods to make Oblivion bearable, but not Skyrim or Morrowind.

Hoo boy....I loved Skyrim so much I decided to go back and try Oblivion. That game is....a lot more rough than I thought it would be. I put a few dozen hours into it, and can't really bring myself to play it anymore. For lots of various reasons.

Strangely, despite that, I still feel compelled to take a look at Morrowind, just out of curiosity.

Rather flat without mods.. I don't get mods to change a ton, but the small things :D
Oblivion had the best mods

I honestly prefer the first shot :P

But I've never been a fan of ENB, however like I mentioned that's one of the beauties of modding. Everyone has different tastes and no two people will have exactly the same mods :)

I don't see where you get this idea from to be honest.

Skyrim is just fine without mods. I know there are some incredible ones (MERP for one, though unfinished) but they're quite unnecessary. I don't need to alter a game to enjoy it.
However, Skyrim DOES feel like it's a blank slate, like Bethesda specifically catered to modders and left everyone else with an unfinished product.

Well, that's not the best comparasion shot :hehe: Dusk and dawn is where it looks best.

It's that increased contrast between light and dark areas is what i like about it. And the lens flares, sunshafts and other eyecandy.

But i can see why one could prefer the default.

I adore Skyrim, and as a PS3 player, don't have access to mods.
It goes without saying that Skyrim is better with mods. The whole idea of mods is to tailor the game to a particular player's preferences, and of course you'll prefer the game if it's more suited to you. But I've put over 1000 hours into vanilla Skyrim, and mods are far from necessary.

Think of the mods that add land masses with full quests and custom made environment with actual huge cities...

Goog god that's all I need, tinker with mods so that I have even more reason to sit on my ass all day playing Skyrim.... as if I haven't permanently ruined my health spending gazillions of hours on this game!!!

Seriously, I have plenty to do and keep my interest high, especially with the 3 DLCs just installed as they came out (PS3). I like the game just fine as-is.

The base game is incredible and unlike anything I've ever seen but there needs to be a balance between them. Mods can sometimes fix things in the game that the devs haven't noticed/fixed/ or god forbid; won't fix. Ex: The display cases on Player created houses. The a certain...magical element when you get a mod for the game. So long as you actually play the game fairly and not nullify the intention with your mod, it does make the game better.

I don't use mods for this game. I don't completely trust user-made content. I guess I could be persuaded though. I used to use a lot of mods in Morrowind, but that was more of a blank canvas.

Anyhow, there is still a great deal of content in this game I haven't touched in my 500+ hours, not even the DLC's - believe it or not.

I've spent hundreds of hours with no mods, and hundreds of hours with mods.

I probably got more gaming in per hour spent at the game without mods though. With mods I tend to spend a lot of time looking for new ones, reading readme texts and reviews, and fiddling around to optimise the game, let alone playing 'dress ups' or arranging things. They can be a double edged sword.

I play on PS3, so I have no access to mods. One thing I wish for would be a removal of dragons after the MQ. I'm doing a character that stops the MQ after arriving in Riverwood for the first time, so dragons don't spawn. I have found the game to be much improved without constant dragon attacks. I miss out on shouts and a questline, but it's worth it, imo.

Ive never had the issue with constant constant dragons. I've had a few cases of two at once, but I've not had major issues with them. Your mileage may vary though.

Can't start Dragonborn until you trigger the random dragons as well, and I start that with everyone. Don't usually go past the Horn though.

As for mods, I'm not running any actual mods atm, just the three DLC and their respective unofficial patches. Which aren't mods. They're the fixes that gamesas hasn't made yet.
