Based on everything you've seen so far, what do you think about Skyrim's animations?

I would have voted" I think they're awesome", but I couldn't, so I settled with "fine".

I think they are fine, but they could always be further improved.

We didn't see too much animations but, from what we've seen, they look fine.

Why does it always have to be "but they could be better"? In comparison to what?

The "they could be improved." option is a little strange to me because even the very best will undoubtedly leave room for improvement.

You should rephrase it slightly to "do they NEED improvement to meet the quality standard?" or something to that effect. I only say this because that non specificity might skew the results of the poll a bit.

When it comes to the hack-and-slash melee combat we saw in the trailer, I feel they could improve that. However, I am extemely happy with how wolves run, dragons fly, and people walk. Finishing moves are also magnificent.

Reality..

To be fair, reality isn't currently possible. It needs to be compared to the quality standard of other games on the market. I think the poll could rephrase a bit to reflect that, but that might just be me.

games that are animated better (Red Dead Redemption, Assassin's Creed I/II/Brotherhood, Uncharted 1/2, Killzone 2/3, Crysis 2, Final Fantasy XIII, some others)

They can always be further improved. I think they look fine, good, even, but there's ALWAYS something better to be aimed for. Plus, the OP asked and two of the options made sense. I voted for "they look fine", though.

Bethesda's best so far, but still need work to be on-par with other AAA games. They are a definate improvement, but still below average for such a high-budget title.

We haven't seen nearly enough of the animations to compare it to those games.

I said fine but could be improved, only because there is always room for improvement and I have seen some areas look like they might actually need to improve upon animations, like the fight scene where the sword swings by the guy and blood flys, but there was def no contact made, but I also put this down as something that just happens in a game where you can jump from 1st to 3rd person anytime you want, still would be nice if it could be improved upon, but if it is to tech heavy or something it def will not cause me any pain, or loss of sleep, and will def not ruin immersion in game for me, as I will not be watching my fighting in slow mo lol

In what way are those games animated better? We only have seen flashes of the animations and they all are fluid and realistic. I don't see how you know that they are animated better. I'm guessing this is spawned from the though that somehow the older TES games had bad animations when in reality they all had great animations for their time.

But why does it always have to be "It's good but it could be better." ? Why can't it be "They are great." because they are what they are supposed to be like in this point in the gaming industry. Saying "it could be better" when no one has done it better (just a hypothetical situation, we won't know how the animations are in Skyrim until we play the game but from what we have seen they seem to be as cutting edge as the next game) is discouraging to the animators and to others.

people who voted option 1 don't realise there is an option 2. It must be true that they can be improved in some why.

"There's always stuff to improve."

If you played the games you would know.

The ones we've seen of Skyrim so far are alright, but loads of other games have been more impressive.

And it's not discouraging, a little criticism shouldn't discourage anyone.

Except I just went over the trailer several times again and every animation is fluid and natural. Pulling the sword completely out of the scabbard instead of through the character model as well, something a lot of games fail to do. I suggest watching the trailer again and look closely because those animations are far from subpar. The only scene that has iffy animations is the one with the windmill and it is probably just the particular angle at the speed of panning that messed with it. Edit: The dragon at the end of the video looked a little odd when flying but it's also from an odd angle.

It's not constructive criticism at all, it's criticism without warrant for criticism as there is nothing to criticize when the animations are at the level they should be.

They looked great to me, they looked much better than anything Oblivion or Morrowind had. To me though the dragons have the best anims of anything we've been shown yet

The windmill spinning backwards has nothing to do with speed of panning... it's probably animated that way

my C&C: just fix it.

Not talking about the windmills spinning (plus it was already said that the scene was inverted for the video, that's why it was spinning backwards) I meant more the way the people looked when they walked in that one scene. That was my bad for not being specific

@Sleign. Morrowind's and Oblivion's animations were NOT good for their time upon release. Bethesda has been well behind in terms of their animations for their entire history developing games.

Skyrim's anims are decent. There are some major flaws and similarities that I am noticing with the problems that plagued the earlier games.. but hopefully there's time to iron them out.

We'll see.
