What do you think the first mod will be?

Post » Sun Sep 19, 2010 3:57 pm

Seriously speaking body replacers take the modders many hours of work to pull off. The only reason it happened so fast with Oblivion is that Bethesda included a female chest texture with the game.

I expect the first mods to be minor tweaks to any features that people have a negative reaction to... but I'm just making that up. To be honest, I'm not even sure if the body replacers will take that long to show up, but I'd imagine it would take the fans with 3D modeling skill time to study the default models and decide just how they want to model modifications. It's not just about dirty stuff, and they do usually include versions with underwear. Then again, perhaps there is a segment of poorly done nudity mods that get rushed out at release and are long overshadowed by more serious body modification mods later? I will say though I think it's hilarious how female mods are so much more numerous and quick to appear than male ones though. I suppose that's only to be expected when most gamers are male.

As others said though, I expect the first popular mods to be tweaks to stat or perk systems.

I wonder how hard it will be for people to modify the UI. If I recall someone from Bethesda said it outright uses Adobe Flash. Does that mean modders that change the UI will need expensive editing software? I suppose there might be open source alternatives.

Given that they were the first mods for Oblivion and Fallout 3, and that there seems to be a good number of people who hate them, I'd bet on No Quest Markers and No Points Of Interest being the first mods.

I don't know about the first mod ever, though I imagine most of what's been guessed at already is pretty close to what we can expect to see from our fellow TES players, but I can tell you that the first mod I plan on tackling is Umbra. If he/she/it isn't around this time, I shall add them, in fact that would probably be much more fun. If they are, you can expect me to stop at nothing to make one hell of a force of nature out of both them and the notorious weapon they wield. I'm talking dragons being easier to beat.

Of course, as of right now, I know of nothing concerning how the game functions that I will hate so much that I have no choice but to take care of that problem first. Like a marker pointing my way, or not being able to drop quest items. I don't care if they weigh nothing, sometimes I take a quest and then decide it's not worth doing, and so I shouldn't be forced to do it anyway just to get rid of the stupid quest item. I have OCD damn it, I can't have my inventory all cluttered up with crap I don't want. Seriously, people ask me why I've never touched Oblivion, despite how excited I was for the game months before it's release, that's just one of the reasons.

I mean, this Elder Scrolls for Pete Hines' sake. Don't force me bro! Don't force me! AAAAAAAAAGH!

:P

EDIT: And as for better bodies, from what I've seen, I'm having a hard time imagining myself needing the Creation Kit in order to make the hot, strong, tall, Nord chick I have in mind. The in-game character designer thing should be good enough. Probably need some custom armor to really capitalize on her hotness the way I want to, but that's a given really.

Im fully expecting the ren's hair/beauty pack to be out fairly early. Thise hairs semm to appear in pretty much any game on the face of the planet that has modding potential.

Although I really want the Moonshadow elf custom race to be ported over, the female faces are really cute and make up the last 4 chars I've made in Oblivion.

Assuming that there will be no way in-game to do it, I'd tend toward a level-slowing mod. All indications are that there's going to be very little ability on the part of the player to control the speed of leveling, and all indications are that that speed is going to be disconcertingly fast (at least as far as those who care about such things are concerned). A simple, across-the-board multiplier for skill increases necessary for level-up would slow it down, and probably wouldn't be terribly complicated.

Hopefully fast travel and map markers will be dealt with better in this one, so they won't be seen to be the first thing that needs to be fixed.

Certainly a nvde mod will be along fairly quickly, but as others have pointed out, that's actually quite a bit more work. And yes - there will always be a flurry of things like retextured Daedric armor in a barrel next to the starting point....

I think Female body replacer,Because it happened in the last 2 games. And people need to be naked when killing mutants and dragons. IMO.

If there is any major problem that annoys a lot of people (like the level-scaling was in Oblivion) it will be a mod to remove that. Otherwise a nudity mod guaranteed. People just won't change in that regard  .

I don't think a full body replacer will be first...

Nudity patch. A classic.

nvde mods. You know it.

...because just removing the stock glued-on underwear takes much less time than making new body models. Even if it's not the first mod out, basic stock-body nvde mods will appear before body replacers I'd expect.

First mod available?

Could it be a spear? Or perhaps the ability to levitate? Or maybe a school of mysticism?

I'm betting it will be a converted mod from FO3 or Oblivion that some kiddie quickly converts and claims it was their original idea.

small graphical tweaks like better-looking coins will be my bet.

Body replacement and armor will come later, seeing as it's more complicated and you will need the body meshes first

Some Godpower mods will surface first.... not worth the trouble. A few months after game release, all the bigger, bulkier and more detailed mods will be released - nekkid mods, new armour (Armour of Brutus from AC:B, anyone?) quest mods.... the lot. Between those, before those and after those come the UOP's - Patches patching patches, effectively patching the unpatched patch meant to patch in the first place. House mods...
Dragon shouts..
But I have a small question too...
The spell "Script effect" allowed for a very diverse, nearly infinite possibility of things to happen when casting said spell. Will "Script Effect" return?

I just thought of this, but perhaps a mod to enable left-handed weapon-wielding would be fairly easy to do, and therefore among the first seen? I don't mean dual-wielding of course, I mean having the left hand be the one carrying the weapon, and the right carries the shield.

Hard to imagine lefties not liking that. How many games have that option?
