What do you think the mystery picture is?

If Dunmer, Altmer and Bosmer can become vampires.....

Why not a Falmer vampire?

I'm gonna say it's whatever the race is in the assassination/lute scene in the gameplay trailer. I see a lot of posts saying Wood Elf...I'm gonna say the same.

I don't make the connection. This certainly doesn't seem like an NPC you'd find in a tavern.

It also doesn't look as spooky or dangerous as I think an ice vampire would look:

The next day, he did return with more questions, these ones very specific. He wanted to know about the vampires of eastern Skyrim. I told him about the most powerful tribe, the Volkihar, paranoid and cruel, whose very breath could freeze their victims' blood in the veins. I explained to him how they lived beneath the ice of remote and haunted lakes, never venturing into the world of men except to feed.

Movarth Piquine listened carefully, and asked more questions into the night, until at last he was ready to leave.

"I will not see you for a few days," he said. "But I will return, and tell you how helpful your information has been."

True to his word, the man returned to my chapel shortly after midnight four days later. There was a fresh scar on his cheek, but he was smiling that grim but satisfied smile of his.

"Your advice helped me very much," he said. "But you should know that the Volkihar have an additional ability you didn't mention. They can reach through the ice of their lakes without breaking it. It was quite a nasty surprise, being grabbed from below without any warning."

Related: Concerning Lady Nerevar's comment on vampire lore, I don't think the Volkihar are buried deep enough in lore for vsions to comment on it. I mean, Immortal Blood is the first book a lot of players will encounter in Oblivion. Not that Falmer are necessarily unknown to the forumers either. This is the first time I actually read Immortal Blood all the way through

really? With his helmet off, http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8613775/Skyrim/Secret%20Thumbs/thumb2_720.jpg?__sf=1303452235 looks like such a huge change from http://swg-ent.sakura.ne.jp/sblo_files/xlii/image/Oblivion202007-04-062000-52-16-90.jpg

Wood Elf Argonian Troll Lich Dragur King < for sure. Might as well take those options out of the pole. If it wasn't suggested in the first thread made by Luke Skyrimmer, it's not a possibility. Vsions's early comments confirm this.

It's a scamp with daedric-ish armor on.. this is incredibly obvious.. why is it even up for debate?

Because that mask doesn't have eye holes. He's blind with it on anyway

His eyes look very strange with the helmet off.

And the helmet itself has some kind of mysterious design that would seem to obscure or alter vision.

Aren't there four on each side? That's more than enough for one scamp methinks. Could also be emeralds but if you're suggesting that the helmet automatically makes whoever's wearing it blind, you're also ruling out about half of the poll options. Besides, who's to say a scamp can't fight blindly even if it is just gems in the helmet?

It was never confirmed that the other piece of concept art was of the same creature. They look nothing alike to me and are entirely unrelated. Remember, these pictures just came out not seven hours ago and nobody but members on this forum have discussed it. No one official has stepped in yet and said "this is that".

We're still not really sure the pictures are of the same thing, but it seems likely.

New theory: The first picture is of a younger critter, fit for battle with the armor and all. The second is a elder. This would explain the lighter skin tone, wrinkles, and even the difference in the nose. If that's true then vampires might be ruled out, depending on how the Skyrim variant's appearance changes upon infection. And I don't know about how scamps (or daedra in general) age.

My guess is still Falmer, this time a young and old one. Now I'm off to bed.

I'm assuming the green dots aren't eye holes because, when zoomed in, they're tiny. Barely enough for anyone to see out of, and if they were eye holes then there would be no need to have eight of them (unless it really does have something to do with spiders!) Also, if the two critters are the same, the second one looks blind as well because of the closed or glazed eyes.

Whoever thinks the little green dots in that helmet aren't eyeholes just because they're green, take a look at the http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/images/f/f5/Ingame_1.jpg from Oblivion. ;)

Edit: That's not related to your last post Frodo. As for being tiny, I think it would be just enough to give them some visibility. Maybe it lets them see things like a fly!

Latest Update on speculation:

Quotes from VSIONS:

Thread #2 well, I must say, one of you is very clever

could this be a reference to Lady Nerevar's Falmer suggestion? Danger Dan's scamp suggestion?

Thread #2 well its been fun, but I have to go work on a certain elven race before I call it a night..... no relation to this thread by the way, just wanted to throw another little bit of turmoil out there.
Maybe I will return when this reaches a third thread.

Thread #3 wow this has really grown. hmmm, quite a few good guesses in these threads... but alas there can be only one. Some really clever people in here though

Thread #4 still growing huh? Right from the very beggining there was some interesting speculation. By the way you guys have a very impressive grasp of the lore.

hmm...Lady Nerevar seems to have an impressive grasp of the lore

leading theories initially proposed by only one person and now gaining momentum [possible]
- Falmer
- Scamp wearing armor
- Ice Vampire
- Some sort of undead Falmer

less likely theories, initially proposed by only one person [possible]
- Cowl or Spider Cowl
- Lich
- Daedra
- some sort of humanoid with a cool scorpion/lobster helmet (would mean that thumb1 and thumb2 are not the same subject)
- some other sort of vampire (not Ice)
- Riekling

theories initially espoused by several people [ruled out]
- no Argonian
- no goblin
- no "spider hero"

theories that seem unlikely due to silliness or certain details of the image [ruled out]
- Atronach
- wood elf
- Dragon Priest
- orc's grandmother
- Skyrim Deathclaw
- Dwemer (several people said this is unlikely)
- Old Lady's husband from http://image.jeuxvideo.com/images/pc/t/h/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-pc-1303134798-031.jpg?__sf=1303450170

Argonian. Zoom in on the image and you will see what appears to be a snout, and also what appears to be ummm....fins (for lack of a better term) coming from the back of his/her head. It a bit distorted being zoomed in at 400% but skin doesn't appear to be human, but more scaly. Me thinks it's an Argonian.
