Crashes are a type of bug, just like a glitch.

-Armor employing both DR and DT.
-Something similar to Skyrim's "Last Witness Killed" mechanic (or an improvement on it) enabling you to avoid taking hits to reputation or getting in trouble with the authorities if nobody is alive to tell of your actions
-Interchangeable weapon mods (although this may be restricted by the engine)
-M199 "Backtalker" Assault Rifle (along with previously seen assault rifles and carbines)
-Rail Cannons
-More ammunition varieties, such as .30-06 and 7.62x39mm (in addition to the wide varieties we've seen in New Vegas)
-Bring back Big Guns skill
-Sprinting
-Middle ground for power Laser Rifle and Hunting Rifle between the weak plinkers of Fallout 3 and the overpowered death dealers of New Vegas
-Decent Power Armor protection (ideally with both good DR and DT)

So long as the banked perks are restricted to the level you were when you received them (thus preventing players from holding off on taking perks early on so they can take a bunch of high level ones at once later on).

The ability to remove my pipboy so I can blend in easier with the crowd.

No set backstory. We're a Vault Dweller, that's all I need to know. I want to make up my own backstory for 111.

More song options, maybe even the ability to program the pipboy to play favored songs.

I don't get what you mean by See your character's body in 1st person. 1st person is 1st person. To see the body you would have to be in 3rd person, Unless you are looking at a mirror. You mean like if you look down you could see your shoes kinda thing?

A more polished game, on saying that less bugs.

An item creation system based on materials you scavenge for. This could tie in with item degradation.

An improved stat system that ties into the perk tree.

Unique perks that impact and make a fundamental difference on how the game plays out.

Things I want improved? well everything needs to be improved that's the point of a new game. But here are my personal:

1. Animations, physics, movement. Make the character move naturally. in Fallout 3 no real person walks, crouches, jumps, sneaks, or even dies that way. It looked like he had a stick up his jumpsuit the whole time.

2. Companions. A good companion system should be one similar to Mass Effect 3 for example. Where you can tell them where to go, what to shoot, defend, regroup, take cover etc.

3. All games where you handle ranged weapons, in this case firearms, there needs to be a cover system. A take cover/shoot from cover system adds so much immersion and realism to any game.

4. Hand combat, in a world where bullets are scarce, melee combat is crucial but melee combat in Fallout 3 is horrible it looks like mongoloid mannequins on crack trying to hit each other. Make fights realistic learn from other games like Shadow of Mordor, Assassins Creed, Batman Arkham series.

That's all I can thing of right now, I haven't played Fallout in years I cant remember a lot of stuff. I'll come back to this.

I'll just throw this here too... Improving VATS: Turnbased combat mode (alongside the FPS stuff). Basically remodeled and repurposed VATS into something akin to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3t_Qecnpac since the basics are pretty much already in place.

This totally! Also copied and pasted from a very similar topic;

I think I speak only for console users as pc users have mods but what I would like is something that I have asked for since oblivion, and is simply a tidier save system. At present all Beth games(elder scrolls/fallout)savefiles since oblivion(and maybe morrowind?)are in a big jumbled mess of a list, just have a separate folder for each character by flicking though the dpad(for example). I can't even remember the amount of times I have accidentally deleted/saved over files I wanted. Just annoys me such a simple improvement is never implemented.

-better writing and c&c
-factions
-let me side with who I want to and not let it be game over or if it is at least in the way of fo1 was.
-no more oblivion gates. Witcher 3 I'm able to walk in and out of buildings and even see what's going on outside and be effected by things coming from outside.
-don't even think about removing special or weapon/armor degradation. Don't.
-don't follow skyrim in crafting end results. By that I mean, don't let me be able to craft something better than what I would be able to find. Killed the reason to go treasure hunting for me because what's the point if I can craft mundane gear into something stronger than an epic piece of her found somewhere.
-keep hardcoe and traits options.

That's about ot

I think it's unrealistic to expect my game to crash. No game I've EVER played has crashed anything like F3/NV. I think Borderlands 2 crashed on me twice and I caused one of them. Never seen Bioshock or it's sequels crash. Same with Destiny and The Last of Us. The reasons are know for what caused the game lag/crashing they should be addressed.

Just to play devil's advocate here, none of those games compare to Fallout or skyrim in terms of what's running in the background. You're comparing games that have empty shell NPCs who just wander round to the complexity of a Bethesda game.

To counter this, I'd say that first of all, the NPCs of Bethesda games don't strike me as especially complex. I'd also argue that if all that background data is causing the games to constantly crash, freeze up, or glitch out, then they probably need to make a much better engine than the one they're currently using.

And they achieved that with skyrim. People still have issues sure, but not as much as with fallout 3. The NPCs aren't soley adding to complexity it's all of the AI packages, scripts, world loading, clutter with individual physics. No other game I believe has as much running than a Bethesda game. The nearest would be the witcher, but from what I hear the clutter and misc environment objects aren't as varied as skyrim.

Edit

Also bear in mind those games were made to run on a machine that had 512mb ram. Have you tried skyrim on 512mb ram?

We now have consoles that have 8gb unified. So expect more stability along with higher performance and more draw calls.

What do I want improving? Well everything of course.

How do I want them improved is another story. I'd like if they took a look at some big mods for FNV like PN, Enhanced FP camera, PPA...and said tried to implement them into base Fallout 4. That'd be a good starting point.

I played Skyrim and Fallout 3 on the PS3, and honestly, I think I had less issues with Fallout 3, or maybe I didn't feel as bothered by its problems because I got it from a friend rather than spending money on it based on less than true statements regarding how the game would perform on my system.

And I'm certainly not going to "expect" stability from a Bethesda game given their past track record. It feels like setting myself up for disappointment. I hope this game's stable on all platforms, but I don't expect it to. At least not in the way of "I think this game is going to function as intended." I DO expect it to be stable in the same way that I expect any product being sold to actually function as intended because if it doesn't function as intended it shouldn't be put up for sale, but lack of consequences for shoddy workmanship has allowed the whole release it now, patch it later attitudes that have plagued so many games.
