That be cool,it reminds of Fable 2,the dog scout ahead of you and find treasure and alerts you of enemies nearby by barking..

Good companions quests like New Vegas and Mass Effect 2.
Hoping for this as well. The companions in Skyrim svcked "give me money and ill follow you." So much depth there...
New Vegas companions all had a story, and they were really good too. Mass Effect 2 same way, great stories. Makes you care about who you have with you.
I'd like them to comment on the different locations you visit for example..just not to often. (Looking at you Teldryn)
Also have them ignore traps or avoid them, assuming the AI has been improved (a lot).
I liked the way companions were handled in New Vegas.
Just onw thing: the ability to control their combat behavior in real-time and via hotkeys. In particular, I want to be able to tell them who they should attack (target selection) and whether they should attack at all (aggressive vs. passive).
Ability to exchange my AI companions for multiplayer companion. Too bad Fallout series doesn't have multiplayer yet....
Follow my lead (targeting).
Store lotsa stuff
Don't try to kiss me.
Their own decent stories like in New Vegas and nothing else. I'll do their quests and park them. I even played Tactics solo, same goes for 1, 2, 3. I had to use them in NV to carry stuff due to hardcoe mode though. That loner perk is just what I always wanted!
I won't be using any on my first play-through. Going with a Stealth/Sniper build with the Lone Wanderer perk.
A companion that can be made "unique", like with by making different choices around them and shaping the way they see you and the world, as well as customize to a degree, and essentially make MY companion overall. I want something where I can sorta put words into my companion's mouth like AlChestBreach does with his companions in his youtube videos, and give them a unique and quirky overall personality, all without having to use/make any mods.
hmmm it might be possible to have even more than one companion.....but in the past, especially when you were sneaking a lot companions always seemd akward and in the wrong place...im sure they have optimized it but still - i think companions detract from that "lonely wanderer" feeling...and the specific perk with the huge bonus to carrying capacity and damage reduction is just too good to pass on

I really enjoyed them giving their opinions on the different locales you came upon. So if they expanded upon this and had better AI.
A cool new feature would be unique interactions with NPCs you came upon, fleshing out their personality and background.
