What do you want out of Companions?

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 5:12 pm

With a dozen Companions to choose from, what are you wanting out of them? Things I'm hoping for in Companions:

1.Changeable clothes. Idc if they have special combat armor that is higher than the prewar suit im giving them. They need to put that [censored] on!

2. Say my name, Say my name! If Codsworth can, so should you!

3. I hope that if I do something that they dont agree with, or if we're approaching a raider camp, maybe they stop me and say something to me, like express that i did the wrong thing, or say that we should go in from the east side of the camp.

4. It'd be nice to have some kind of tactical use for your companions, like if they could come around from a different side into a battle. I would love having a Companion with that.

5. An old character from a previous game.

I want them to go away LOL.

Sorry, never been a fan of companions! As with previous games, I'll probably give them a short try on a second or third playthrough to see how they work and if they've improved to the point where I can tolerate them, but I'm not holding my breath!

1. Agree, let us equip our companions.
2. When no one is around you say "Baby I love you"
3. Bioware does this well - insult apostates? The apostate in your party has a problem with that.
4. Tactical preparations would be neat, add a strategic layer to combat beyond close vs. ranged
5. Not if they're forced in
6. Real companionship - I'm a hopeless romantic

Out of these, I want 3 the most. Companions have their own goals and motivations, and will turn on you if you go against them. Also, see 6.

I was going to say the same thing. If they have an interesting side quest I might try to pick them up for that.. but if you at all have to spend a certain amount of time with them to open up their dialogue to get their quest I'll most likely skip them... especially since there's supposed to be so many. I definitely don't plan on ever doing any romance scenario... I dislike that feature in every game.

They really do. I hope that some type of 'comment on whats going on' thing will be in the game like that. Hopefully even better too.

Im not a fan of companions in any game. Take MGSV for instance. I only used the horse to reduce travel times but neither of the other companions. In fallout 3 and skyrim I preferred to venture alone.

Companions are pretty useful in the fact that you can have them running your settlements while your away.

I hope they are less static as in Skyrim. Other then that, I was quite satisfied with followers in Skyrim.

Oh yeah, and the follow AI mechanics are hopefully fixed, so they won't get stuck in faulty navmesh, or take a detour around a whole mountain, because the navmesh didn't allow for better pathfinding.

Better AI would be good. Hopefully we can take whatever their default outfit is if it's something heavy so it's not taking up any of their carry weight if we give them something different. In depth backstories and special quests to go along with them.

Someone to pull my ass out of the fire, when inevitably my big mouth gets me in more trouble than my six shooter can handle.

Also be nice if the say hey don't step there cause of Mine or Dog poo...

Same here, they just get in the way, I'm a lone wolf in my games. I must admit though with all the new toys we get to play with in Fallout 4, I do want to make Dog meat a kennel :D

I hope that if they have a ranged weapon they would try to keep their distance if possible instead of run into melee range of a deathclaw getting ripped apart instead of running and firing with obvious exceptions of companions like dogmeat and codsworth who dont have long range weapons with codsworth at best having a flamethrower.

I agree, hopefully we can change their clothing. I am so used to Vilja's wardrobe system, that i totally forgot Skyrim's terrible default clothing system....hopefully that wont return!

I'd like them to be like the companions in New Vegas. You had a handful of companions who each had a backstory and a personal quest related to them. They might object or out right turn against you due to certain quest decisions.

They weren't all that smart though... I managed a full pro-Legion playthrough without angering Boone or Arcade even once. And that was my blind playthrough, so I had no idea what done where would tick them off, I was just lucky with the timing of my conversations with them. I hope F4 companions aren't quite as blind.

Fallout 3 did this to a basic level IIRC, witht eh Karama system (screw you jericho I can be a bad boy too :stare: )

Fallout NV as some have mentioned they reacted but it could take a while, or something pretty specific (joining the Legion with Boone per say)

Skyrim was a bit of a step backwards imo, apart from the lass added by the DG expansion. She was cool.

Fingers crossed with only 12 they are making them more like 3/NV

1- Each one of the companions (human) will give you missions depending on the level of friendship...
2- I want romance similar to Dragon Age Inquisition and not generic as it was in skyrim (It would be nice if it had options to kiss, hug and maybe six..haha :D )
3- If your companion get injured and incapacitated, so he only returns to the battle if you cure him (Without regeneration of life please.. )

I want a dog that'll act like a dog and walk a little bit ahead of me, while looking back every 20 yards or so to make sure I'm still there. That's what my GSD does when she's not on leash. Animal companions always drove me bonkers because they follow you instead of exploring ahead a bit.
