@ Lady Renly- I think Throw Voice exactly. It's basically you shouting insults, and one can insult someone by shouting, "HEY, MELON NOSE!" from a distance. But spit fire/frost and blast someone a good foot or two away? No, can't happen

Absolutely ridiculous, you are so right. That's soooo unrealistic! At least they implemented some realistic elements in the game, like shooting fire out of your hands.
What?
I don't even know where to begin addressing this as you apply sound science to magic then apply Newtons laws in a way which doesn't apply and also say that such a sound would create a black hole....boy that's a mouthful of madness.
p.s. vsauce isn't infallible
Magic doesn't exist irl. We are just using shouts as a substitute.
Yeah, but there is nothing in-game or otherwise to suggest that shouts work by making a really loud noise. You might as well investigate how hot you'd have to make your hand for fire to start shooting out of it.
Sorry, OP. I get what you're doing and respect the effort you've gone to, and know that if Shouts were sound it would make sense, but they're not. They make a sound, but so does casting fireballs: the effect itself is magical, as proven by the fact that you can summon storms or call down meteors, something sound is quite incapable of doing.
Though I wonder, if you brought a Nord from Skyrim into the real world and showed him voice-activated technology, would he believe that was Thu'um? Or a clapper? Do we possess hand-Thu'um? And would a master of clappers, as a master of the Voice is called a Tongue, be called a Finger?
^^^this. I am all in favour of geeky number-crunching and stuff, but the premise kind of doesn't really make sense to me beyond that.
*googles* Oh, THAT guy. Ugh. How's he getting on your YT front page, mine is all extremely camp Disney parodies, Skyrim Let's Plays, Jenna Marbles, Bad Fics Illustrated, and stuff with swords in, i.e. the kinds of things I actually watch.
I am a woman of taste and discernment.
How does casting fireballs be relevant to anything?!?!?!
This explanation may help.
As you can see, sound pushes people back and beyond. Fus Ro Dah does too. The sound idea seemed very relevant so that is what they chose. Heck I just learned today that it is magical.
But they are perfect.
Some might say I'm a fan of them...
So can an explosion, but no one's comparing Fus Ro Dah to a concussive blast.
As proof that the making of sound as a byproduct does not necessarily mean that something is sound.
Okay, so how does Fire Breath work or Ice Breath or Ice Form or all the other Shouts which are also used by the Dragonborn/Greybeards in the same way (i.e. they come out of their mouth)?
The fire wouldn't burn your mouth anymore than it would your hand for holding flame before casting. Like we said, magic.
And like I said, you better hope your fireproof.
