i'm usually a gun for hire except i don't work for the legion (slaver jerks!) i just kill then when i see them plus i'm well like in good springs.

I usually kill them on my energy weapons chick, if possible. But that is more RP than anything else. I play that they killed her best female friend (not in-game ones mind you), who happened to be her first REAL crush/one-sided LI, so she obliterates them with a prejudice.

I react in the same way as I do to anyone else - I don't attack them but I will defend myself/ other NPCs against them.

Depends on the circumstances though - with the ones who attack the merchants near Wolfhorn Ranch generally I hide out of the way. If I was travelling with the merchants I'd help defend them.
