Raul.

ED-E is crap.
Rex is crap.
Cass is a little fun but her default weapon svcks and I don't like having to micro-manage companion equipment when they just spray it.
Veronica, only tried her with my explosives character and that did not end well.
Boone is awful.
Lily, haven't had a stealth character yet so haven't tried her.
Arcade is great but can't match up to the mexican gunslinger.

Boone is awful? Haha, what? Maybe if you only side with the Legion... He's easily the most powerful companion. Unless you're strictly speaking of personality and looks.

And Veronica+Explosives is a terrible combo haha. You throw explosives while she runs up to punch the enemies... yeah, not as good combo.

Anyways, my favorite is Boone when I want to kick ass, and Veronica when I want to actually talk to my companion.

Arcade Gannon, because he gives me one of the best looking armor...oh you mean personality and all that stuff? hmmmm, I guess I would still pick even by knowing that he's gay, he's got good manners and he possess lots of knowledge, also he 's quite powerful in combat.
I guess I 'll just need to be a little careful about my ass because, just like Little Buster , I'm a little sensitive about my ass  , I'm joking, I'm joking, I 'm pretty sure he wouldn't try that...right?

I had 6 CHA and Boone missed 70% of his shots and the one's he did land weren't even that powerful.
He had the personality of a cardboard cutout.
His personal quest was too much pain in the ass to start.
He looks like he has a melon in his cheeks.
I really tried to have him with me for my NCR playthrough but that bastard was so boring and crap in combat that I just snapped and told him to [censored] off and went and got Arcade instead.
And man am I glad I got Arcade instead!

Wow, I think your game might have been gliched or something. I had 6, maybe 7 at the most Charisma when I used him and I rarely got to fight. Every time combat would initiate heads would start exploding immediately. Maybe you weren't telling him to keep his distance or something. The funniest one was this random encounter near Goodsprings. I think most people would have seen this but I'll but spoiler tags anyways -
Spoiler

This random guy showed up and when I talked to him he told me his girlfriend was trapped on a cliff with some Geckos. Being the nice guy I am, I offered to help. Once I was done killing off the Geckos mister pants-on-fire comes up and thanks me for clearing the path to a treasure he wanted for himself. He then went on to say he wasn't going to let me live... Immediately after the camera zooms back his head explodes. Boone wasn't about to let his trickery go unpunished, and he certainly wasn't going to let me do the punishing.

Anyways, yeah, Boone was a killing machine when I had him. He even cleared out an entire Legion Camp by himself when I accidentally fast traveled there once. I don't know how he could have been so bad for you.

I haven't gotten around to recruiting Arcade yet. That's the doctor inside the Followers fort right? If so, that's who I'm going to use on my newest game. I liked him when I met him but I was already using Boone or Veronica.

I think some people's playstyle doesn't fit Boone. :)
But that does sound unusual...most of the time people are complaining that Boone is too powerful. If you take away his beret (and leave it off), he WILL take a lot more shots on average to kill stuff since he won't have a bug-inflated crit. chance & such. But even minus that he oughta kick butt. Odd.

I do love Arcade tho....he's such a geek. He tends to whine about needing a doctor's bag an awful lot, tho. lol

Yeah I don't know if it was a bug or something but honestly, he was just a tad better than ED-E for me.
And that's bad...

Will try him out again on my next character though, maybe give him a better weapon and try to bear with the micro-management.

Started with Cass, with her pre-patch attributes (STR = 10), she was awesome with a Super Sledge. As I've completed her companion quest I've decided to leave her behind for a bit and am now taking Veronica around with me.

- Cass is my favourite, probably. I love chicks with red hair. Also the Whisky Rose perk is awesome.

- Veronica has the best dialogue and is pretty good once you get her in Power Armour. Pretty average with any ranged weapon, though. Even a fully repaired Plasma Rifle.

- Lily is great with very amusing dialogue and another super perk. I gave her the unique Super Sledge as a gift...and I don't think I'll be getting it back anytime soon.

- EDE dies easily, but has a great perk.

- Rex is a dog. And I love dogs, so I like him by default, even if I can see his brain.

- Boone is pretty good but tends to kill things before I even see them. Also, with both of us walking around wearing berets, its looks a little weird.

- Raul has a great perk, but haven't spent much time with him so far.

- Arcade seems funny, though have not teamed up on a mission yet. There too many other things to do!

Question - can you drop companions and get new ones in the same game?

e.g. I want to keep all the potential companions gathered in ONE room, e.g. Novac hotel, and when I want
to dump off Boone and ED-E and pick up Raul for example, I can simply tell my companions we need to
part ways for now - but if I do this, will they stay in the room and wait ?

Yes you can, but they either go back to the place you recruited them from, or one that they own in one companions case.
That or head to a specific plot based area later on if commanded to.

You're probably right, the times I've taken Boone along for the ride he's been powerful though.

First one standard sneak and crit while ranged, but I find this style in NV lacking and prone to fast high health critters in swarms finding and killing my pc quickly.

Seond pre patch EW build and third a gun style my current favourite playstyle fast and flexible, stand up most fights dodge fire, zoom and take out a few, back to dodge switch to a smg..
Deathclaw in the distance? crouch without a high sneak take the sneak attack Danger flash up from its brood scope fire untill closer then switch guns.
This time Boone was even better, as a melee character maybe he would not fit if you kept getting in his LoS anyone tried this that could comment.

Boone and Veronica.

Though to be fair, I like them all besides Lily and Rex. The hulk-grandma gimmick wears off faster than I'd like, and the whole robot dog thing just doesn't do it for me.

Yeah, you can send them all to wait in your Lucky 38 suite. Or can you? I'm using a mod so I can recruit more than one follower, but I send some away to the Luckry 38 and I loose the perk so I guess they don't occupy the companion slot had I not used that mod.

ED-E definitely owns :). With my level at 27 and CHA at 8, he cleared out Bonnie Springs alone - without me drawing a weapon. He's a tough little guy with the laser upgrade. My style of play is that I don't want to shoot at people, although I will if I have to, and I do at lower levels.

My favorite people companion is Boone, even though he's broken and then Arcade who is fearless, so very intelligent and incredible on EW. Veronica gets in the way but she's sweet and awesome in melee. Raul is tough and also fearless and I haven't traveled with Cass, Lilly or Rex yet.

Arcade is the most superior companion.

Anyone who says otherwise, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up2JZwy18eYEugh. :verymad:

You do lose the perk if you fire them to the Lucky 38, since you have the mod you can just make them wait and do sandbox mode. You should make them go to the lucky 38 only if you are in front of or inside 38 or else they could die.

I love Raul and Arcade for the dialogue and I like Boone's story. I like ED-E's "battle music," except he is now invisible due to a bug of some sort. NPCs still comment about him and I still have his perk. For companions, I prefer them to use ranged rather than melee. It would be cool if the player could pick up a follower from the Khans or the Legion (I don't know if this exists, but I haven't come across them), since all of the other factions are represented by followers.
