What's your favorite combat style?

Post » Wed Sep 30, 2009 1:08 am

I decided to make a poll on peoples favorite combat styles. I am keeping it pretty simple. If you use more than one style choose which one you enjoy the most. I am curious to see what our forum members preferences are.

a mix really, sneak up to them, poison and enchant your arrows, move in on the enemy and slaughter them with the melee weapon, and mop up opposition accordingly. first strike is the deadliest.

I prefer to play with my assassin character, fire an arrow between someones eye or put a knife in their back. Mostly i prefer to fight at range, which means marksman for me. But it's also fun to combine magic and melee with my spellsword character, cut them with a sword and set them on fire

Generally a synthesis. Any pure combat gets dull for me after a while, so all my lasting characters combine magic, melee and a bow in some capacity.

While I certainly love my bow kills, magic wins hands down.

Magic hands down. Try playing the game without useing any kind of magic sometime and see how impossible it is.

I use all three. Bow at long range, sword when they get close, magic to heal and help carry loot at the end. I voted bow because my marksman skill is higher than any others combat skills.

I do not really have a favorite. I like them all. Which I use just depends on the character I am playing.

Magic! I like to creep up on enemies and administer a sneak attack. Then I fight with a combination of Absorb Health + whatever melee thing I'm using. But the magic is my favorite part of it.

Personally I don't have a favorite style of combat. I'm too much of a wimp! My characters on the other hand, employ different methods. Therefore I could't vote on the poll; there needs to be an "All of the Above" option.

I'd pick bow if it wasn't so glitchy in-game.

So I'll pick Melee.

Ive done it a bunch of times. Its pretty simple actually. Go pure Warrior and Increase your Strength and Endurance ASAP and you will be Godlike by level 15 and maintain that status throughout the game.

With each of my character, I've given them a different skill in which they fight with.

I started with my first character, and she only used melee-based weaponry. It worked out pretty well... :/

My second was a mix of conjuration and marksmanship. I'll tell ya, using an old fashioned bow and arrow is a lot more fun and easier XD

My third used nothing but magic. Using nothing BUT magic is a little difficult to me :/ I mean, I make my conjured creatures do all the work, but having to know which spell does what is a huge hassle XD

Marksman, backed by short blade.

Same here :) I'm going through my first playthrough now without using any magic at all and it's going pretty well.

I'd pick bow if it wasn't so glitchy in-game

How are bows glitchy?

Bow, enchanced by magic.

This. I use a shortsword and/or dagger as backup.

I always thought I would be a die hard "run and gun" guy since I am so used to FPS games. I love one handed blades and heavy armor even though my play style tends to be a sneak/thief character but I have to say Oblivion has completely changed me around in that aspect. I find myself using spells and more importantly my marksman ability much more often and going to blade as a last line of offense/defense in a battle. I am definitely loving marksman right now though.

I am currently trying to do a pure magic playthrough, though honestly I really find myself always just going back to marksman, with blade and alchemy to back it up, I have a really hard time enjoying magic in this game and overall don't find it terribly useful other than for enchantments/buffs.

Magic. Loads of fortify magic clothes, and you can 1 hit anything with 100 (favorite element) damage for 5 seconds on touch. But I also like to use it fairly.

Melee/magic hybrid. I don't like pure styles really, and I can't stand marksman.
