I have played all the endings. Minuteman, Railroad, and BOS all end up with the same ultimate results, although they take different paths to get there. As anyone who has been in the game for a while will understand, only the Institute ending is much different than the others. I found it hard to really like any of the factions.
1. Minutemen - Preston is a nice guy. Well intentioned. But he other than uniting the Commonwealths fighters he really has no plan for what to do later.
2. Railroad - Their synth (3rd generation only) sympathy seems well placed, but Desdemona is an unsympathetic ***** who doesn't deserve to lead anybody, and Tinker Tom is not very likable either, although he has some neat weapons/armor to offer. I did like Deacon as a companion, and Gloria is cool, but overall the Railroad left me cold.
3. BOS - Elder Maxson is an ******* of the first order. Their single minded synth hating philosophy turned me off right away, although their ending to me, proved the most interesting to pursue, mainly due to the unexpected Danse adventure and Liberty Prime. And you will find there is some dissension among the ranks that I wonder might be fodder for an expansion pack follow up.
4. The Institute - at first, without spoiling too much, this seems the easiest to pursue, but eventually their true colors come out. It's difficult to go against them, of course, after finding out about your son, but that's one of the choices you have to face.
Ultimately, the ending I was hoping to pursue was not offered. Take the Railroad's 3rd gen synth right to life philosophy, combine it with the Institute's advanced technology on how to live underground radiation free, and meld that with the minutemen's policing of the new world, and maybe, just maybe, you have a new society with human rights and decency prevailing. Ah well.......
