What's your favorite non-"main quest" quest?

I need to get a general idea of which quests are considered above average.

EDIT: Oops, I forgot to mention that they have to be quests from Daggerfall, sorry. :banghead:

I like any quests that involve fighting in towns or indoors. One thing I kind of missed from Arena was being attacked in towns, since sometimes I want some light-hearted combat but don't want to spelunk through some accursed labyrinth.

There was a quest about rescuing some woman who as been kidnaped by bandits but then some complication happens and someone asks not to rescue after all. Don't remember any of the details except i decided to rescue her but when i found her and clicked on her npc she got scared and died of an heart attack.

I think this was either a commoners quest or a merchants quest. These are the best quests. Some involve several steps and more than one approach to it like the example above.

Was that the quest with the three possible outcomes, where some NPC was plotting to kill an ex-lover only for her to be kidnapped by mercenaries? From which point you had several choices - such as outright killing the woman yourself, killing her captors and bringing her to the questgiver, etc. Something like that.

I don't remember this quest. I'll need to play as a mercenary again.

My favourite quest is a merchant who ask you to escort him to a town. Upon arriving in the town, you have a random chance of encountering guards, the Mages Guild, the Thieves Guild, the Dark Brotherhood or no encounter at all.

For each case, the merchant is seeked by these three groups and you have the choice of turning him to the group or not. It was a very cool quest. :)

I also remember one where you are looking for a particular NPC in a city. When you get inside his house, you find his body and he's been murdered. The first time I played through this quest, I was really surprised.

Anyone like to make up stories or backgrounds of some of the quest givers depending on what they ask you?

For example, my Thieves Guild questgiver asked to me rescue his child from the Dark Brotherhood...saying she was the only family he had left.
Then, he asked me to rescue his cousin in a random dungeon..saying she was the only family he had left.
Finally, after having rescued his two family members, he accuses me of stealing jewelry and runs away.

What a traitor!

I agree. Most of my favourite DF quests involve merchants, by turning him over to the guards you can increase your reputation. I like all the twists and turns you can get with merchant quests.

I do enjoy that ex-lover quest, simply for the dialog. Something along the lines of "imagine the purity of my delight when I learned that my cheating ex-lover had been kidnapped by the Dark Brotherhood. Then, imagine my amusemant when they demanded an absurd ransom for her return. Now, imagine my irritation that her cousin actually plans to pay them off..." The options are to either steal the ransom money, kill the cousin, or kill the girl yourself. It's fantastic.

The one where your nemesis tricks you and warps you into a dungeon, and you have to fight your way back out is such a fantastic twist on dungeon crawling that I often just stand there and let him teleport me away, even when I could have easily wasted him right there. Finding your way out of that hole, hunting him down and stuffing a blade in his face is quite satisfying. Sometimes I'll recreate that scene in other quests by using the cheats to warp directly to the quest item, and then fighting my way back to the surface.

The mummy's finger quest is fun, because being hunted is fun. Actually, I like any quest that involves getting ambushed by enemies.

Merchant quests. My mercantile shot up massively. And rescuing damsels in distress was fun. When I carried that herbal drug though... Heh it was fun being wanted by the law until it was off my hands. Oh I loved going into towns then!

The Lycanthropy cure quest is also great. Having to make a massive moral decision as to whether to rid yourself of the curse but damn an innocent child for life, or allow him to continue living like a normal human. :)

There is a mage guild quest i liked very much. They want you to kill a rebel mage, if you kill him nothing interesting will happen. But if you won't he will send you a letter and ask to join in exploring some dugneon ;). He can cast fireballs while beeing your companion! ;)
