What is your favourite city in MW or OB?

Balmora. I suppose because it just became very familiar over the course of the game.

I voted Sadrith Mora because it's the city I feel most at home in. In Morrowind, my main character was a member of Great House Telvanni, so she spent quite a bit of time there. Even going as far as to get to know the locals, and developing a friendship with Fara.

Balmora was about the most "home-like" place in either MW or OB to me. The surrounding walls in Balmora and most other MW towns and cities never seemed rational (why build a wall at all if you can just go around it?), and there was nowhere near enough housing for a "city", but it had decent transportation options (Mages Guild Guide and silt strider port), a nice selection of services, and a reasonably logical layout, like it could have developed that way over time, in an area that was quite "livable". Unfortunately, the agricultural areas of the Ascadian Isles were a bit distant, leaving an Egg Mine, some nearby fishing villages, and not much else to feed the residents and represent a token local economy. Since it was only an ALMSIVI hop, skip, or jump from the old Dunmer Fortress of Hlormaren where several of my characters took up residence, it continued to be a major hub of my activities even when I was part of other Houses or factions.

I also liked Vivec in a number of respects, but it just didn't feel as comfortable and casual, even after I got used to the canton layouts.

Skingrad was the closest thing in OB to a "working" economy, and the only place in the game that felt "real", in spite of the funky split layout that occasionally made it awkward to get from one side to the other.

Balmora for me too, and I do not know why.

Maybe because like some other people say, it had become a second home for me, and I had modded a home for myself under thieves guild there and lived there most of the times. It had special conveniences that had made it a keeper for me.

It's not easy to pick a favourite, but for Morrowind I think it would have to be Vivec, because of it's location on the south coast, the amount of places to explore and the fact that even after years of owning the game and many many hours played I can still manage to get lost there. :)

For Oblivion it would have to be Bruma, because of it's remote, beautiful location up in the Jerall Moutains, it's climate, the interesting locals and the Nordic architecture.

I don't hate it. I think it's lacking in atmosphere. They could have done more with the layout and design to be honest. I can see what they were trying to achieve with Bravil but it just looks there was like less time was spent on it compared to other settlements of its size (I actually thought that a settlement with Bravil's characteristics would be larger than most the wealthier settlements). I think it would be more difficult and more time consuming to make a settlement such as Bravil with its relatively poor inhabitance, to be interesting than say that of somewhere like Cheydinhal.

Bravil could have been a lot grimier, with more shacks, some in disrepair, with dark alleys and more beggars and criminals. The skooma den, for example was a bit of a joke.

Seing all the cities from Morrowind on the list, almost makes me want to play it again......

No matter how good Skyrim will be, it will not be another Morrowind. ;)

Voted for Sadrith Mora.

In Oblivion, probably Chorrol... I like the architecture, layout and its situation near the Great Forest and Colovian Highlands.

Morrowind, I'll say Ald'ruhn, since I remember making a homebase out of it after a certain person's house became... available. Not too badly located, and the Manor District under the giant carapace was neat.

I loathed all the towns in Oblivion except for Anvil. Anvil had a port feel to it, and the seamen on the docks gave it a special feel. All the other towns in my opinion lacked true feel or character. In Morrowind however, I felt like I was in an upper class city or a backwater fishing village. And when I was in an Imperial city or Fort like Ebonheart, I could feel this instinctive hate towards the foreigners forcing their culture upon Morrowind. My favorite town would be any of the ashlander camps, they had a great atmosphere, I really felt like a foreigner, and when I later became the Nerevarine I felt like one of them. Given, Oblivions cities felt more alive because of radiant ai, but Morrowinds had something else thats hard to put my finger on.

My favorite it Balmora, there are just so many things you can do so early in the game and its a really active town with lots of shops and easy access to several other towns.

I'd have to agree with King Hlaalu Helseth. Almsivi cities are badass because they are all large, and look really cool. Mournhold is my favorite too. It looks really luxurious and rich and actually had a solid bodyguard you can hire. I remember when I was first playing Morrowind and saw Vivec city for the first time, I was like-"Okay, I'm gonna have to save this bad boy for later because there must be tons of quests and fortunes to make in this city." I was gonna take out the smaller cities first.

Pretty sure Mournhold only has about 16 buildings.

Not saying you should change your favourite because of that, just pointing it out.

If it comes to uniqueness, all the cities of Morrowind are unique in their own way, especially the Telvanni ones, or Ald-ruhn.

Voted chorrol because it felt very homey and comfortable and I like the forests that surrounded it they were great for hunting.

For Morrowind I would choose sadrith Mora because my character spent slot of time there and was usually part of house telvanni.

Anvil. I love rping a Necromancer, and that one secret area cinches it for me.

In Morrowind, it would have to be Sadrith Mora. I love the magical feel the mushrooms give.

If it comes to uniqueness, all the cities of Morrowind are unique in their own way, especially the Telvanni ones, or Ald-ruhn.

Vivec takes the cake, though.

Then Vivec pierced Horde Mountain with Muatra and made of it all a big bag of bones. At the touch of his right hand the net became right scripture and he threw it all northeasterly. The contents spread out like sugar-glows and Vivec and the Buoyant Armigers ran under it laughing.

Finally the bones of Horde Mountain landed and became the foundation stones for the City of Swords, which Vivec named after his own sigil, and the net fell across it all and between, or became as bridges between bones, and since its segments had been touched by his holy wisdom they became the most perfect of all city streets in the known worlds.

Throngs of Velothi came to the new city and Ayem and Seht gave it their blessing. The streets were filled with laughter and love and the strength of tree-shaped enemy children.

Ayem said:

'To my sister-brother's city I give the holy protection of House Indoril, whose powers and thrones know no equal under heaven, wherefrom came the Hortator.'

Seht said:

'To my sister-brother's city I give safe passage through the dark corners still left of Molag Bal, and I give it this spell as well: SO-T-HA SIL, which is my name to the mighty. It will protect the lost unless their flight is on purpose and fill all the roads and alleys with the mystery paths of civilization, and give the city a mind and make of it a conduit to the full concentrate of the ALMSIVI.'

Thus was founded the city of Vivec in the days of Resdaynia.

Yeah, Vivec is my favorite city, by far.

In terms of gameplay, I always loved Khuul and Ald Velothi. I usually made my home near them. I was enamored with the quaint and remote feel of the peaceful fishing villages.

I voted other because I was always quite fond of the Skaal village on Solstheim. And also Raven Rock. I spent a lot of time exploring that island, and have fond memories of dumping stuff off to both my home in the Skaal village and my Raven Rock house. Good times.

Raven Rock. Building the town really gives you a sense of pride and emotional attachment to the town itself, since you had to do a quest line for it to exist at all.
