What's your level? What does it say about you?

Post » Mon Feb 08, 2016 8:37 pm

I've been wondering how other players have been doing stacking up their XP.

Before deciding to buy Fallout 4 on a whim, I never played a Fallout game in my life.

I went into this completely blind, I didn't understand the level up thing so I was just increasing the 7 main perks thinking you had to in order to move to the next row of perks :wallbash: (whoops), I also never catch the references to past Fallout games while I'm playing until I read something on here that mentions them - I WAS CLUELESS.

So I'm curious as to what level is considered pretty high...

or maybe too high  ...?

I went into GameStop earlier yesterday and I started talking about how Fallout has me svcked in to where I'm playing throughout the day, sometimes throughout the night, and stoped going out on weekends because the Commonwealth needs me haha

and then guy was telling me how he has a buddy that's like I am with it, his friend has played 202 hours and is at level 78 or something in the 70's...

So I stood there remember my roommate telling me he's going to do an intervention if I don't stop playing (hopefully he was joking)

then I told the guy that I must have a problem since I leveled up to 102..

and he gave me this look that said "Oh, wow.. are you okay?"

Now I'm left wondering if I play too much  ??

According to pretty much everyone I know, I play WAYY too much.

I've never been a gamer so I guess this "Fallout addiction" is out of character for me, so I kind of get where they're coming from.

Basically, I'm looking to find out if I really have been playing too much.

I'd find out how many hours I've played but I don't know how (PS4 - let me know ;) )

I understand that certain perks, companions, outfits, armor pieces and stuff like that can effect the +XP

Maybe I have a good legendary mix of armor goin on?

Idk..

But LV 102 feels too high to me now thanks to GameStop Guy.

Even if I have been playing too much, I don't care. I love Fallout 4 - best game I've ever played.

Share your level, your ways of play, your stories of Fallout addiction LOL

Well, I've played 876 hours, and I just arrived at level 20. Truth! :D

However before you get too carried away by looking at the numbers, I should point out that this is with a number of characters, though I've never been higher than level 40 with any of them. Personally, I have a lot of playing time because my job freely allows me to play on the job, with frequent intermittent work breaks that last a few minutes to several hours 24/7 based on circumstance. If you've never worked "on call" as a 24/7 live-in, you have no idea... :)

Are you playing too much? Honestly, only you can answer that. Do you still have a place of employment or schooling or whatever that you need to keep showing up for? Do you still interact with friends and have something that resembles a social life? Are you happy with the way things are? I'd guess that the last question contains your answer.

I played this game a LOT, yet I only have one character -can never bring myself to have more than once in a BGS game somehow- who's level 60 now, at ~200 hrs game time since release.

My playstyle however is fairly pseudo-RPG conform, to the best of my ability/muse, so there's lots of time spent on stuff the game doesn't recognize or reward at all. Walking in settlements, babysitting Curie/Dogmeat, sneaking and generally moving unecessarily covertly through the wilderness and ruins, etc.

"Time spent enjoyed is never time wasted." -If your body and your loved ones don't severely suffer from your hobby, I don't see the harm in it.

I'm just wanting to get a feel for what the average rate of leveling-up is among Fallout players. Like I said, I've never played before Fallout 4, some stuff is still alien to me.

I spend literally all day playing, which I'm starting to get the realization that most people don't get to do.

I'm a student which is super important to me right now because finishing is taking YEARS as I'm a pay-as-I-go student.

The thing is I'm only a part-time student, so I've been almost completely distracted playing the game with all of the free time.

As far as interacting with friends, it's been minimal ever since I got the game a month ago. But that's also within the same time frame that I moved away from home so I don't know a single soul where I'm at now other than my roommate.

Am I happy with the way things are? Truthfully, yes. And that is what concerns me lol.

I'm hoping it's just a phase. This game though... it's a really good versatile story line and it just drew me in..

t\The more clues that I'm given of something to discover around the commonwealth, the more committed I am to figuring them out.

I have a blast doing it - it's hard for me to maintain interest and attention with most things, so when something does have me focused, I really enjoy it.

So yeah, maybe I play too much.

But someday I won't, so it's okay :tops:

I don't know how many hours I've played as I have backtracked 3 times to run all 4 possible endings and get all the achievements but my save says over 11 days on my BOS save (the one I'm keeping going forward) and I'm level 72, I think this means I'm hooked lol.

PREACH! YES! haha I love it.

I focus a lot on building settlements and doing my BoS duties which some of the games bugs have caused to repeat over, and over, and over, and over :brokencomputer:

I tend to level up super fast when I'm using V.A.T.S. and I'm dealing with swarms of whatever is thrown at me for radiant quests.

And when I need supplies for building, I go to my chem station, make a bunch of Jet (more XP) and sell it to Trashcan Carla so I can afford to get more material from her for my projects haha

And that's the thing, apparently it's practical to assume that I am the Fallout gamer who focuses on leveling up, but I'm not at all.

The first thought came of it when I received a "Very Rare" PS trophy after leveling up to 50.

I was like noo wayyyyyyyy (I'll admit, I was a little excited haha)

I was just kind of out of my element when a GameStop guy looked at me like I must be a crazy hardcoe gamer for being at a certain level in a game - I've never been much of a gamer so I'm usually on the other end of the conversation.. actually I'm usually never in those kinds of conversations.

So I find myself here trying to figure out if the level I'm at is unusual by seeing where everyone else is.

Definitely a good point you made, too - as long as no harm is being done, it's fine that I only eat, sleep, bathe and play Fallout.

OH! And do my homework :unsure2:

Thank you for making me feel better haha I'm on the same game I started with. I've considered starting over but some of the stuff I really don't want to do again.

2nd Level 44 - planning for 100+ by leaving all unique SQ and MQ in my pipboy until Level 70-80 before touching them. Mainly doing Settlement building, exploring, getting the fun perks and 3 factions radiants for now. oh and inciting multi locatiom battles, gun modding , collecting items, Armours, bobbleheads, mags

You don't have to start over, if your smart you can just backtrack to a game save just before you go to the institute for the first time and choose to do things a different way (trying not to give the plot away here lol)

1st character/run through - retired him at level 67, with three levels gained after finishing main quest.

This run through (2nd) - level 40, and haven't progressed to the 2nd stage of the main quest...I'm exploring, playing at settlement building, and taking a sensible and planned approach to the game as far as character growth and settlements are concerned.

About ~500 hours or so. The game says just 264 but I quickload often so I guess double that hours.

The game doesn't actually count how many hours you are in the game actively playing right ? The timer gets reset every time you (quick)load.

2 chars - level 80 sniper male and level 40 melee female

I'm thinking I'll start a new game each time DLC is released. I never really thought about it... seems like a good way to keep the game alive.

My first run I did completely blind, and though I regret the ending I chose for him, I just chalked it up as the story being simply a small part of a much bigger game. Now almost 900 hours in the game, that character is level 181. I'm at that point with that character that I can't find perks worth investing in anymore. My second character is level 40 and has yet to go to diamond city. I plan on doing the MQ very slowly this time round.

You mean in steam right? Then yes, it counts every hour/minute you have the application open - so doesn't matter if your loading any saves, doesn't matter if you sit looking at the start menu for 264 hours, you'll still have played 264 hours according to steam ;)

Dude that is one thing that I'm p/o'd about... I totally messed up the ending. All I had to do was one simple thing that I completely misjudged and everything would have turned out the way I wanted it to. adfdakjfaksdjf;aksl

Both my playthroughs have panned out around 70 to 80. The first one was a sniper who wasn't scaling well and the post-MQ quests from the RR werent really grabbing me. So I retired him and made a melee combat monster. She was death on two legs right up to the end, but I walked out on Kells when he wanted to tell me to wipe out the railroad, and that seems to have borked most of the BoS quests for some reason. So I thought I'd try something else.

Current dude is around lvl 21 at the moment. He's a sort of Gordon Freeman type. Scientist who can survive a surprising amount of punishment, and who isn't afraid to break heads if the situation seems to call for it.

Hi there and welcome to the forum! It appears that you are not alone in playing a lot of hours. Fallout 4 is a fun game. I have 603 hours, between 4 characters, according to Steam. My current character is level 20. I also have two level 40-something, and a level 72. I like to make at least one character of each gender and am planning on using one character for each of the different endings. So far I have one high Intelligence, one low Intelligence, one Luck build and a Jack-of-all-Trades sort of character. My first character kind of rushed through the Railroad faction and I also used her for beta testing the patch.

As for reasons I have a lot of time to play: I am unemployed & older, I was recovering from surgery when Fallout 4 came out, and was recently laid-up with an ankle injury for a couple of weeks. So Fallout has been a great time sink for me. I love Bethesda games, always have and Fallout 4 is no exception.
